Post here if you have ever been defrauded in any first-land transaction in any fashion.
Did someone pressure you mercilessly to sell your first land using any kind of high-pressure tactics or even hardball thuggish tactics? Were you threatened in any way? Were you told your land was "crap" and wouldn't sell unless you took advantage of their offer right away, etc.?
Did someone tell you they'd pay you cash, but that you'd have to set your land to $0 sale, and then take it from you without paying you?
Did someone promise to buy it but then not buy it?
Did someone offer to buy it from you for a low price, say $750 or $1500, and you found out later it was worth 3-4-5 times that much?
Did anyone fail to inform you of the circumstances of the sale, or the location of your land and its relative value on the market?
Did anyone defraud you in any other way to get your first land from you, either earlier than you wanted to give it up, or for a price less than you wanted to part with it for?
Describe:
1) date of incident
2) sim of incident and sim rating i.e. M or PG
3) price paid

This almost happened to my roommate when the first continent just started ( I showed him SL, he signed up, etc ), just before he was about to make the sale; he just asked me whether it was a good deal or not. (just in time too) - was a small time land trader, and used pretty much 'all of the above' in your list of high pressure selling tactics.
Was a Mature sim, and was being offered L$750. -Adam _____________________

Fortunately, one of those despicable FICers was there to let me know how unfair that price was. He then sold me into slavery. Those feted oldbies never do anything without ulterior motives. |

Nope, I sold mine for 3500L a few weeks after purchasing it. Maybe a little under valued, but I'm not complaining.

I was ripped of in my first land purchase.
It was only AFTER I forked over my hard earned L$ that I found out that the land wasn't real land. It was bait and switch. The land turned out to be VIRTUAL land, land that doesn't even really exist at all, except as a figment of some computer's imagination. Geez, what a rip-off. I've been robbed. |

I started sl in July, & got really interested in land back in Oct. After a lot of research, a lot of flying about to various locales & trying to figure out how it worked (without a lot of help) I found a hillside firstland in a mature snowsim- darned if I remember which Sim. I had fun fiddling about with it & figured out why most people want flat land- lol. It was a great learning experience & I had a lot of fun there.
In November (?) the opportunity came up to buy a 1024 for 6k- in Wilmot (mature snow & flat) but involved trading my 512 as part of the deal. I went for it & the next day my hubby bought the 512 firstland next door there in Wilmot. I didn't feel like I got ripped off, but now I do feel if I had known more & shopped around at the time, I could have come out a bit further ahead. In the end of the day, I was not unhappy with the decision & still have the land, and the former neighbor's land, and the other former neighbor's, and that guys land that used to live over there and...  |

i was ripped off... during the time when land was a scarcity and prices were nearly 5k for 512m... i was ripped off when i settled for 2k for my 512m - of course, i didn't know any better then until i realised that i couldnt afford a new plot somewhere else.

Actually, I think I got incredibly lucky. I was walking around second life welcome area and someone asked me if I had bought my first land yet, I replied 'what's first land?' He then offered me a teleport to a plot of first land that was available and explained the procedure to buy and sell land. He gave me 512 to buy the land with, and then bought it from me for 5k. He said he needed the land for extra prims for his mall.
So, I made 5,000 and owned first land for ... about 2 seconds. Jessica |

So, I made 5,000 and owned first land for ... about 2 seconds Wow...sounds like a really evil and vicious land baron and mall baron to boot SWOOPED down on you and grabbed your first land and only gave you $5000, when for mall land he could have paid at least $12/meter!!!!
