But surely, it's not the Lindens' responsibility to change what people call their land?
If I were to sell you land at L$10 per m2 and call it First Land... I'd be the one commiting fraud, not the Lindens. If you see someone doing this, feel free to neg-rate their behaviour, or abuse report them... but don't blame someone who's fault it isn't.

I didn't say this particular pitfall was the direct responsibility of the Lindens, but I do think they don't provide sufficient explanation of the whole First Land deal nor of land issues in general. It's very confusing. And there are only something like 8-12 genuine First-Lands out there a day, and they are all in crappy locations, and to make matters worse, they are often near unfinished sim edges, misleading newbies into thinking they are getting "waterfront".

I wish they would have actually explained the 1st land feature because i bought some of it and sold it not knowing i couldnt get the cheap of land again and now i cant get squat because of that stupid rule i hate this so i have to decided to quit this stupid game because it is almost impossible to buy any land with out being a member for months

Well there is a reason it's called FIRST land. If everyone could buy FIRST land over & over again they wouldn't have much incentive to buy any other land & would really defeat the whole point of FIRST land.

Not true as of as recently as a month ago. A new account on the same credit card could buy First Land.

If this happens to a customer, the company has to think if they have explained the game properly or not. It's not worth it losing the customers. But apparently they prefer to rely on a system of oldsters who beat up and shame newbies in a forum, outsourcing their customer service problem to the forum harpies.

Oh, Prok, give it a break already.

When I first offered advice to you in these forums and got accused of arrogance, I swear I was younger in game than you are now. The only difference between you offering people help and me offering people help is that I bothered to IM Char Linden when I was 30 days old to ask for a Mentor title and she gave me that along with a notecard packet of guidelines and an invitation to also become an Instructor. So I could wear a title to identify me to new people who needed help. So I wasn't restricting my help to people I refer (not having a large group of residents following me here from TSO or anywhere else) or people who just happened to ask questions out loud in my presence.

I am not a forum harpie. I am not an oldster. I do not beat up and shame people in a forum (well, present post excepted ;) ). I do not hang out in game with any other forum posters. My circle of friends is restricted pretty much to Bingo, Tringo and Cape Destiny hangers.

An IM to Char Linden. The only difference.

This is probably as it should be. It's certainly possible for more than one RL person to use the same credit card.

There are 100-150 pieces of First Land on offer every day. LL recently restricted searches with the First Land drop down selected to the first 10 lots found in the search - preseumably to encourage the buy up of some of the more longstanding lots rather than everyone buying in the same, brand new, Mature, high demand Sim. If you do a search with All Land selected, and with 512 and 512 in the size and price boxes, you'll see the real number.

Which is what I advise people to do in my Land Ownership 101 classes. Which seem to be needed with an increasing urgency. Which I'll schedule as soon as my laptop returns from the Computer Hospital.

As for location, doesn't it make sense that the less desireable bits of new Sims be the ones that are sold for less than premium prices? And First Landers rarely stay on that piece of First Land for long enough to see their sim edge be filled in. And many members of the Mentor group and other informal helpers are only too willing to take new purchasers on tours of available First Land lots to help them find the lot of their dreams. I know I've done that for more than a handful of residents who have all be absolutely delighted with their position, their view and their neighbors.

Apparently so. After all, someone has to be the sole crusader to identify the Feted Inner Core, and point out every time they see an example of it at work. Just think, without Prokofy, no one would ever know it even existed!

Ooops, correction. Not the sole crusader. His alts also crusade for the same noble cause.

This is ESPECIALLY confusing because many people who buy their first-land plots and resell them never bother to take the description FIRST LAND off the plot. So it sits there with a price tag of $3750 saying FIRST LAND ready to mislead the first newbie who comes along and uses up his First-Land privilege and spends $3750 on recycled First Land, not on true first land.

umm......once you buy a First Land lot it stops being first land. if you buy it for L$3750 from someone you won't get the First Land warning pop up just because they didn't change the name of the plot.

not many new people could afford L$3750 anyway. that's why First Land exists. and if you saw a plot like that and thought "gee this one's L$3750 so it must be better than all those L$512 ones" you're probably the kind of person who would see a popup saying you can't buy First Land again and think "that must mean i can buy First Land again". but then that example's completely irelevant anyways since he bought the plot for L$512. dunno why you brought that up. :D

anyway yeah you're totally right. it's another case of bitter elitists taking out their frustrations on a poor helpless victim newbie and not some guy who got mildly screwed cause he didn't read the warning sign and then had a public tantrum.

here's an example of the forum harpies ganging up to savagely help and advise a poor helpless newbie who dared to ask a similar question in a reasonable clear and polite way rather than showing his ass to the whole world. shocking.

did you think you could just buy cheap land, raise the price and sell it and repeat? the First Land program is there to help people like you get land when they're starting out but it's a one time offer. sorry if you abused it. if you made an uninformed decision it doesn't make either the rule or the game stupid.

Another future land baron gone dry. *So sad*

First Land with ALTS and Referrals was totally abused since it first started.

Main gets ALT who gets first land, gives Referral to Main..Main gets 2K and ALT sells land for more gives to main. Gets a new ALT who gets First Land and makes the referral to Main.......wash rinse repeat.

You really think some people had 50+ friends that they referred to SL, only way would be thru a webpage but even then. Specially back when you could sell 10K L$ for 50$. would only take 5 referrals.

Like anything people will abuse and use every loophole to get ahead it has been that way thru every stage of SL specially with Land. Sure LL fixed some of the loopholes and fixed rules too. But human nature will always try to find the quick and easy path.

The upside, of course, is that such behavior tends to be transient and doesn't go on for all of eternity. It can only profit one so long before the well runs dry, and the next thing comes along. All we can hope to do is be aware of such issues and constructively and quickly report them in this open arena for thoughtful discussion, and perhaps leading to new changes in LL policy.

Thats true torley, if it wasn't for the fact that Linden Lab set up the system in the first place and has let it run for literally years now. I think its pretty clear they've done it to boost subscription numbers so there is no way they wont just keep using similar systems as time goes on - it works afterall.
