From: Ricky Zamboni How about, "Damn it! Every time I place my currency for sale at L$1 below the current rate, some joker comes in and undercuts me and my order never sells. Well, I'm getting sick of it! I'm placing it at L$10 below the current rate so I can just get rid of it."
Case in point: About a month ago, there were roughly L$6M available at L$261/US$, which were typically undercut by a few million placed L$1 to $L3 below it. A couple of weeks ago, the L$6M order had dropped down to L$278, again with a couple of million quickly piling up just below it. Now, that L$278 order has begun evaporating, and I'd bet dollars to donuts it's partly due to sellers getting suck of their stuff not selling. Anshe agrees with you, apparently I just never had any trouble selling my L$ on LindeX so far, so that explanation didn't hit my mind. It's probably the best explanation, too.

This morning it seems there is less then 3.5 mil spread out across like 8 points. Its this selling frenzy that is driving the market up. If it was held where it is for a day, the value of the L would go down 10 points... I can't help but think this whole current drive is being fed by the island frenzy. There has to be a reason why people want to sell so fast.

Guess that means "The Market" will do whatever it damn well wants to do. And if that pushes the valuation down, then so be it.. Now if all this upsets you and you hate seeing the Linden Dollar decline, then let me point your attention to the Grand Master Economic Guru King Phillip Linden. If you don't like what is going on, then fuss at him because its his economic policies which has created this mess... Not the people trading on the exchange. Linden Dollar Valuation on the LindenX is the "Effect" not the "Cause".

I bet whoever put up that much money for sale was willing to take the loss just to see this forum and laugh. It's happened in other online games. Someone who's tired of playing leaves the game, sells off all their gold, way below market value, for a certain period of time. The market crashes and sometimes even takes the game with it if it's an older game. But those are different enviorments. I think SL is flexable enough to withstand that simply because we make do in SL with what we have. SL did come from nothing after all. Or wait it was created wasn't it? Heh I remember something about "Let there be Lag and he saw it was good" Well it grew from almost nothing hows that. I noticed some in other forums talked about selling all their property, cashing out, and starting over with an alt. Or even with the same character if it wasn't popular? I can see why some would do that just to get a sense of sucess all over again. Or to see if they can do it again. Since SL doesn't have much of a game quality to it on a whole. I don't know. Maybe some older, richer, players are leaving because things are not how they want it. They may not have intended to crash the market but they have so much that it's hard not to effect the enviorment. Just having a lot of cash makes you that much of an influance in a small economy I guess. I suppose it could be played or gamed that way. But it could be gamed the other way too. Like nobody buying. heh If only we had the abilitiy to choose which price to buy at. If I feel like buying L$ at a higher price then why shouldn't I? Or wait. We do don't we? I dunno I never buy.
