People won't go to anything if they have to pay. They might freely tip L$100 but won't pay L$25 to go in.

It's the capitalists that are killing SL, and the sooner we run them out o' town, the better.

Have to agree with you 100% here, Lewis. Capitalists -- The same ethics-impared folks that bring you all the RL problems generated by the ruthless quest for the almighty dollar without thought to social ramifications (the 'I got mine' crowd), now bringing the same sort of problems to SL..again ruthlessly chasing the dollar via the linden! :(

I know I won't pay a cover charge for clubs or events. NOTHING in SL has that kind of draw to justify that...donations, dancer tips, etc, sure. Cover charges...nope.

My premium account is gone here the second they implement this...and if I have to buy lindens, it WON'T be off the lindex...there are other places to get lindens that don't directly benefit LL or benefit it to a lesser extent. If they are going to go the route of the US government (by the rich, of the rich, for the rich) I will do what I can to impact their bottom line.

I preffer Platform - something that you can use to build software and games on top of. SecondLife by itself is about as much fun as a huge flat piece of land with a stick and a hoop to push around. It's the users and developers who use it as a platform to build games on top of. And, like in RL, we have crappy free games and content, and good quality pricey games and content.

Platform is what folks call it when they want to glorify it and make their hobby / online business look more 'official'. Which of the two statements below sound more 'businesslike'?

1) I play this game, second life, and acutally make a few bucks...or even a decent living off of it.

2) I am part of Second Life, this virtual economy platform. I run a business online there and make money / a living.

Knowing the pomposity and self-aggrandizement of most of the capitalist / business types, I am betting the second is why they prefer platform to game. :)

And the old text-based MU*'s were once bleeding-edge in the early years of the internet...and you could build games and programs on top of those (albeit non-graphical). And they called themselves games / entertainment..not platforms. It wasn't until the business types got into it (both ingame businessmen and people like St. Phillip of Linden) that the term game was marginalized in favor of platform. In Phillip's case, quite understandable, it sounds more 'important' to Venture Capitalists to be CEO of a company 'making a VR economic platform' than to be the CEO of a company 'making an interactive game. :)

I play SL the game. I do not care for a minute about SL the platform and the bogus 'economy' the capitalists ingame constantly drone on about. 250L to the dollar, 500L to the dollar, all the same to me because I am not stupid enough to count on income from SL in RL. Those using it as a source of RL income, however, must be having to regularly change their shorts with the changes in valuation. :)

END STIPENDS NOW!!

Defeat Communism in SL just as it was defeated in Eastern Europe. The (virtual) world works better with a Capitalistic economy.

Yeah and most places even in the US have outlawed bootlegging.

The only people this benefits are the ingame wealthy who are the only people that care about the 'economy'

What about the non-wealthy who play on their land, rent their appartments to avoid having to pay the $10 monthly fee, and enjoy the game with the content those 'wealthy' have created?
