From: Jamie Bergman The L$ has remained at or above L$280 per $1 USD for a considerable time and shows every indication of moving lower.
Please, LL, do something to whip L$ deflation before it totally kills the economy. Perhaps Jamie you can find comfort in living in the FREEBIE trailer that Sam built for the Sleezywood Competition and donated to a Newbie help group that you now sell for 1000 linden. If the market collapses, you to can enjoy living in a FREE trailer built and textured by Dominion Custom Homes. It really IS the best trailer in SL and you can get it FREE from Sam. He can even build you a bridge to set it under as your lindens float away in the massive devaluation. Take care.

Lebanon Pounds 1 LBP = $0.000665115 USD
USD $1 USD = 1,503.50 LBP
--- South Korea Won 1 KRW = $0.00102782 USD
USD $1 USD = 972.929 KRW
--- Linden Dollar L$ 1 = $0.00354937 USD
USD $1 USD = L$ 281.74 (Linden Dollar) ---
The L$ soundly beats the South Korea Won and the Lebanon Pound in the exchange market.
I see no inflation problem with the L$.

From: Jamie Bergman During this crisis, keep your browsers tuned here http://sleconomyblog.blogspot.com/ as I will be providing you with the latest information as it develops. All through your "Leading Economic Mind" phase I just rolled my eyes. But this is really over the top. I find it really difficult to take financial advice seriously from you, Jamie. If I stated why on these forums, someone would be bound to take it as a personal attack, which is not how I would intend it, but suffice to say that you made a statement to me some weeks ago that led me to have real issues with anything you would say on a financial or business standpoint. So what I will say regarding these multiple, sky-is-falling, OMG, financial apocalpse now threads, is: OMGWTFSTFU. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. P2

Everyone should go read Jamie's blog. I especially like the part that tells us the era of union workers sitting around and doing jacks**t for high wages is over. I work for one of the most successful companies in the world. Always makes the Fortune 500 list and has been named best in its industry every year for almost a decade. And guess what, it's a union shop, teamsters even. But, like so many people on the right end of the spectrum, Jamie blames the workers for crappy management decisions. Enron probably went under because the janitors got paid too much. Right? Working people built this country, but economic elitists like Jamie blame the country's problems on the people doing the work, not the people making the decisions. Typical. I guess that way when Jamie gets to make her own crappy management decisions she'll be able to blame it on the workers too.

This forum becomes more like watching a Power Rangers episode with each passing day. I'm waiting for the season finale when the bad guys decide to team up and work together. I'm hoping they'll build a giant Impeach Bush Robot made out of freebies.

Actually, I did experience a crisis this week, but it was more along the lines of not being able to find shoes to match my shirt. Unfortunately, I panicked.

I am always bemused at self-styled geniuses who haggle and argue over the meaning of "inflation" and "deflation", who look down their noses as people-less-eductated-than-they and make snide comments about such people's increased-need-for-education, etc etc blah blah blah.
Known such folk all my life. So busy in their self-proclaimed genius they seem to miss the common-sense facts of life: * The value of the L$ is on a downward spiral * Merchants are closing doors because it's no longer worth their time to sell. * Land owners are closing down land because they can't convert rental L$ to pay for their land tiers. That's what it all comes down to. You can mash semantics and grammar all you want. These people who are talking about L$ inflation/deflation may not have the terms exactly right, but at least they have the brains to know that something is wrong. Unlike their pedantically erudite counterparts.

So the Linden is becoming worth less, why should the average resident care one way or the other? I do not have Linden income and do not rent. As for shops closing down, there will always be another.
There is a real excess of retail space available. SL is like RL in this respect, many residents just go directly to the source. Problem with selling in SL is once you buy the needed stuff there is nothing you need to spend money on. I admit to buying new clothing sometimes but spend less than my L$500 a week.

Way, it's not a matter of point of view or snobbery--what we have is inflation in the Linden dollar, or else deflation of the US dollar in Second Life.
This is build into the Lindex, because it always costs more to sell Lindens than to buy them. That is, US dollars are more valuable than Linden dollars in the Lindex system.
I wish they would list the base exchange rate instead of adding in the transaction fees. IT makes it almost impossible to calculate anything; but when I look at what I get in exchange for what people pay, there is an $11% difference for $1000 Linden.
That is, the buyer pays $3.85, I get $3.41, and Linden Labs gets 44 cents, but both the buyer and I exchange $L 1000. Therefore the US dollar is being deflated ( .44 taken out of the exchange system by Linden Labs), which in effect inflates the Linden dollar (still $L 1000 in the game).
Can't see how it could come out any differently.

From: Zapoteth Zaius Oh... My.... God...
Someone whack Jamie with a brick in a carrier bag for me? This so reminds me of a customer of a company I used to work at, someone accosted them in the parking lot and they used the thing immediately handy for retribution: Their laptop in a bag. Beat the everlasting piss out of the guy with it. Things that make you go HMMM.... On an unrelated note, I had the displeasure of stumbling across one of Jamie's shops a day or two ago, a vehicle yard full of free vehicles marked up to insane prices. Like the ZX4 attack chopper, the C-Tech antigrav racer, and a lot of others. One was marked up to like L3000 I believe, some big shuttle. A despicable blight on the community. I'd say more, but the resmods might smack me.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people are getting out of the land business (because of a variety of reasons only one of which is the declining linden). But could you please provide me with a list of Merchants who are closing their doors because of a 10% decline in the value of the linden?

Drop the premium stipend, I sell ym alnd and drop to basic. I can buy linden on basic too- and rent- and pay no tier fees or subscrition money to LL. They lose money. How many people do you think will drop preium? I'm betting alot.
