Have Lindens Removed Dreamland Citizens' Right to Sell Their Land?

I have decided to sell my land, which is in a Dreamland sim. I just went to put the price on the General tab of About Land, and found that all those options are now greyed out!

Have Lindens (as I have been told), removed all Anshe Chung landholders access to their own About Land - General tab fields? I was also told that this has been done to stifle competition, because more people are buying land from Anshe than from Linden. Instead of trying to kill off the competition, perhaps the Lindens should ask themselves WHY people prefer to buy Anshe's land?

I am now not enjoying my Second Life, seeing as my land selling rights and abilities have been changed without my permission.

I heard about this. I also heard the Anshe Chung is also the richest person in SL having put 10000$ or more of real money into the game. It doesn't suprise me that she would have the power to do something like that, nor would it suprise me if she bought into the contract or license of the game itself. I don't know how it all works, but if you ask me I don't think it's always a good thing. If you have any issues with her it's pointless to try to report her or any other such thing. SL won't touch her, not unless the amount of people against her went up so much that SL started to lose money, and that's about all I know. I don't really now the whole story and what exactly is going on, but I do know one thing, money talks, unfortunatly.

Yeah, LL is doing everything it can to screw the island owners.

Which is sad given how much money was paid for them.

I think what you don't appreciate is that LL is responsible for the customer dissatisfaction, but Anshe has to take all the heat.

When she originally ordered a lot of those SIMs, we were allowed to sell island land.

It became quickly obvious to all of us that this wasn't going to work out, so we suggested an alternative. A new type of SIM Island that was auctioned off like the mainland but you could still sell land in.

And then LL decided to take away land sales. They even took away land sales in the classified tab.

So now people can't sell land, and the business model is hooped. TO make things worse, sim islands have vanished pretty much off the map.

And Anshe has to take all the heat? That's just plain crazy.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote, Friskies. I am not criticising Anshe at all. I was told that Linden Labs removed all Dreamland Citizens' right to set their land for sale. I have no issues with her at all ... I think she's doing a great job in offering people land that they want. Land without laggy, ugly malls and clubs and other aesthetically displeasing constructions in view. Why can't Linden Lans offer sims with the same qualities?

It's a good question. A better one, is why they feel it necessary to throw up so many roadblocks to zoning.

Down With AnsheCorp!

Just kidding... I love the benevolent economic dictatorship imposed upon SL by AC.

Rent from Hiro Queso - no 'purchase' fee. Just pay a monthly amount.

I am personally pleased that LL have at last removed Anschecorp 'sales' from the land sale list.

Who ever told you that was a liar Geminian. LL have always but always made it clear that they do not allow sale of plots within private estate sims. As far as LL are concerned it's renting. AC sell these plots within their own company so to speak, but to LL they are still owned by AC.

edit to add: I may have been a little harsh lol, this person may not have been lying, just confused. When LL brought in the ability to be able to 'deed' land to groups, they mistakingly left the ability to list the plots as a sale. They then removed this mistake in a later patch.

limitation of Island land, no matter who the Owner
11-08-2005 03:55
Staying out of the for or against debate that will never be resolved in the forums, the answer that will help you the most is: yes, there is no automatic, system run way to sell your land. Unfortunatly it has to be done manually, either through posting in group chats, using your classifieds or finding someone that is looking for land. Of course you could go back to Anshe herself, but that isn't the answer if your looking for a profit.

It boils down to since the linden land systems are put into effect for linden owned land, and that Island sims aren't owned by lindens, those automatic systems are off limits. Until a better system can be created these are the limitations; quality of surroundings cost ease of use; true for any of the Island up for rent, sale, or lease.

I was also told that this has been done to stifle competition, because more people are buying land from Anshe than from Linden.

This doesn't wash. Estate owners pay Linden Lab $1250 per island setup plus $195 per island per month. The fact that they rent the land to other residents doesn't take a single solitary dime from LL's cash flow. They receive the same amount of cash they make when someone purchases a mainland sim for $1000+ and then pays $195 to maintain/rent it.

The land transfer options are greyed on estates because the estate owners can't technically transfer the ownership of the land to you anyway. A builtin leasing feature is promised for a future release. In the meantime, you'll have to struggle to find a buyer and work with Anshe to "transfer" ownership of land in Dreamland.

For the record, estate land could be listed for sale at one point in time. Much panic and bitching was heaped upon LL by people who claimed to be protecting poor innocent newbies. I still haven't gathered their true agenda. LL relented and nerfed the feature.

They are? Damn, no one sent me the memo. Ferran and I have been very happy with Chaos. Sure, we'd love more tools... who wouldn't, but all in all performance has been good and the Linden's response to any issues has been excellent.

Also, $L for $L we aren't paying any more for Chaos than we did for 47K sqm of Riiki on the mainland. Our island payment equals our teir. And we actually made a profit selling our Riiki land and buying Chaos.

More tools, more control, less lag, better performance, no annoying neighbors.... oh yeah.. I feel SO screwed. :D

Not true. You're forgetting the tier the renter would otherwise have had to pay. LL has said on many occasions that most of their income is from tier payments.

You will have to excuse LL for failing to meet the needs of Anshe and her island community.
Their original business model called for a ratio of 50 people per sim, not 50 sims for a single person ;)
They greatly underestimated the demand for land, thinking most people would be content to run around the grid and look at / play with other people's stuff.

What tier are they not getting? Renters pay tier (rent) to the estate owner who turns around and pays tier to LL. They might not make quite as much money as they would if these renters were paying them individual tier on the mainland; but the estate owners are hardly providing competition as they do not actually own land because LL owns it all.

I'm just getting pissed off with people asking to buy my plots of land in my estates on a daily basis, and having to explain countless times that it''s just not possible. Most of those then think I am making excuses and cite examples of where it is being 'sold'. I am just fed up with it Khamon.

Sounds like my daily routine of refunding money to people who've bought multiples of copyable plants then having to explain how they work including the fact that each must be rezzed independently from inventory so that the scripts function properly and that I'll consider their request for a giant pink dingo tree complete with optional particle flames...

Business seems tedious sometimes, especially when we have a grand influx of new residents. And I do with you had a rental feature that allowed people to "purchase" estate land for a specified amount of time. In fact, that would work brilliantly on the mainland and should've been in the queue from the day 1.2 was released and Philip got so excited that people were renting apartments to unlanded residents.

We'll probably never have a "sale/rental" feature making the Anshecorp model a perpetual impossibility; but your method would pan out without a hitch using a builtin, guaranteed rental feature. BTW, have you considered adding any mountainous snowy type sims to your continent?

The tedious stuff I can deal with, I get that in many areas of the biz. It's the part where I point out you can not buy private estate plots, only to get replies like 'oh but you can, so and so is doing it'. It's not the having to answer people, it's the awkwardness of the whole thing. I mean I then have to explain why so and so is not selling OR just shrug and not fully explain. Its awkward and messy.

As far as snowy and mountains, yeh I have thought about it, along with many other landscapes - tundra, hills (think english country side), all water, etc. I even thought about having sims perm night and texured to mimic the moon and/or mars. Another I thought about using maybe a metal type texture on the land to create a futuristic look, but then land editing would have to be locked as 'smooth' might look odd, might not *shrug*. I am surprised no one has ever used non land textures to texture land this way. You know, all metal or something.

Thing is I have never got asked for any thing other than green or beach type. As far as mountains (and diff landscapes in general) go, well I used to spend hrs landscaping them, only for 90% of residents to then iron it flat lol. So yeh, have had many ideas, I will see how things go and maybe I might go with some of the above in the future. I just want to see how 1.7 and a few other things pan out before doing anything tho.

Considering the investment, you'd need some commitment from a group of people to implement something like a Krypton sim I suppose. I see your point about the confusion caused by a competitor making false claims about "ownership." What would aggrevate me would be people ironing the land flat then asking me to come fix it for them so they could iron it flat and ask me to come fix it for them again. Do you get much of that?

Oh we're not supposed to conduct private conversations in the forum are we. So Eggy are you suggesting that LL should make a sim available for every unique user? Are you leading into a distributed grid diatribe. Or is it the other Eggy that does that?

Sometimes, tho not often. It's one of those things I don't mind as long as I have time, and it doesn't come across as an expectation as part of the service.

Isn't the problem a simple one?

There can only be ONE owner of an island sim. There HAS to be ONE person that LL charges each month the $195 lease fee. I these cases that is AC, plain and simple.

If you could 'sell' your land in a way that AC didn't still really 'own' it then LL would be having to split up the monthly sim fees and try and collect from everyone else. That would make NO sense at all.

You can still 'sell' your land though right? You just can't use the land deed method since it really isn't LLs land...it's ACs land that she pays LL directly for every month. Doesn't AC have a means for you to 'sell' your land to someone else?

You are only able to transfer an island sim whole, you can't sell individual plots. I assume that LL have set it up like this to avoid people buying up private estate sims and selling plots of it in preference to the main grid.

I skipped through a lot of these replies, because just about everyone has completely misunderstood what I am saying.

My land is NOT on an island sim, it is in Devotion, part of the continent of Dreamland.

When I "obtained the deed to my land" (let's steer clear of the word bought), I was able to click on the land, see the price, and click on Buy Land, to initiate the deed transfer.

Now that I wish to transfer the deed to another deed purchaser, I am no longer able to put a checkmark in For Sale, or display a price, and the Buy Land button is greyed out.

What I would like to know is, who initiated these changes?

Lastly, I am in no way anti-Anshe.

Geminian, Dreamland is many private estate island sims joined together. You need to speak to Anshe really.
