Jamie-
I've read several of your posts (and the subsequent responses in many cases) and I must say I am baffled. Perhaps you could clarify for me:
1) Please explain your definition of "communist" in light of it's opposition to capitalism.
2) Please explain why capitalism is, in your opinion, superior to this "communism". (Note that I am not against capitalism in ANY way, I would just like to attempt to understand your viewpoint.
3) What country or countries utilize a true capitalistic economy?
Thanks!
P.S. - Were you aware that our "capitalist friends at BusinessWeek" are owned by McGraw Hill, Inc. which has offices in Communist China?

Sitting on land and offering freebies to people as they pass by isn't harassment, ask the Lindens. Suggesting they check them out before shopping isn't harassment. Ask the Lindens. Where's your leg gone, vulture? Edit: its only economic sabotage if you are selling those FREEbies at extortionist rates (which you are)

From: Michael Seraph An influx of capitalists?? (Dang it Michael... you beat me to it.) Jamie- Will the Business Week article bring more consumers to SL? Or merely more merchants? You're in favor of increasing the competition for customers? Way to starve out the mom'n'pop capitalists of SecondLife. Lewis may be at your gates hawking freebies, but soon he'll be replaced with Walmart and Target, stealing away your customers with their slick stuff. Some how, I doubt LL will chase them off when you ask. And so, all your lovely capitalists will be relegated to indentured servitude trying to pay off credit card debt as wage slaves competing with cheaper labor in China and India. Long live Free Trade and Capitalism! God Bless the United Sellouts of America. -- There's already to many predators, and not enough prey. (and no, I don't really believe Walmart and such will dive into secondlife... not for a long while yet.)

Walmart is currently looking at ways of training associates within second life, for accidents and bomb threats and such. This is based on two things.. 1. Business week saying walmart among other companies looking into SL 2. My store manager explaining how we may be one of the test locations for a new training technique for thsoe things (we are getting a remodel here soon) Maybe it was smoke up our ass, but hey, its a possibility?

From the "Virtual economies" article in Business Week: From: Edward Castranova "I think the question is the ratio of content creators to content consumers, and keeping that healthy. You want to have enough creation, but you also need to have consumption. You need to have creation that people consume for the world to be lively."
Does anyone worry that if the focus shifts so entirely to the money making "content creator" aspect that the ratio spoken of in the above quote will become unhealthy? I know I still consider myself a new player, rezday was beginning of Feb, and I spent tons my first four weeks. Since then, not much at all. Now that I've learned enough about the game systems my friends and I mainly hang out and create stuff that interests us. None of us are consuming at the rate we did when we started and I don't believe any of us ever will. Of course, any influx of players, if they are premium players, is always a boon to the land barons. But, as Jopsy says above: From: Jopsy Pendragon There's already to many predators, and not enough prey.
The content creators will have much more competition, and I'm sure, <sarcasm>we'll all be enjoying more malls...</sarcasm>

From: Michael Seraph An influx of capitalists? Oh boy, there goes the $L, falling falling falling. More people here to cash out, it's just what we need. Capitalists are the reason the $L has declined. The ordinary resident doesn't sell $L, they occasionally buy $L though. It's the sellers who have driven the value of the $L down by selling for lower and lower rates, underbidding each other to cash out as quickly as possible. Then, because their business plan is flawed, and they can't control their need to make a quick buck, they campaign to have other people's money reduced, so the value of theirs will increase.
Yep, just what we need, more banana republic capitalists. Can't wait. Anybody got any freebies I can start selling? i'm still waiting for the punch line.

From: Weedy Herbst Jamie is:
(a) Against IP rights. She does not administer to copyright law. (b) Against stipends. Only capitalist countries provide "welfare" to it's citizens. (c) Against dwell payments. Only capitalist countries issue "tax returns" as business incentive. (d) Against freedom of speech and self determination.
Therefore Jamie must be a communist. what must weedy be for trying to block out competition in her public land exploit?

From: Michael Seraph Punch line? your theory was so absurd i thought you were making a joke. capitalists, by which i understand you to mean entrepreneurial and speculative commercial interests, are the ones who care about the stability of the L$. a declining L$ is good for the average resident. i don't understand how you could put the beginning and end of your post together without intending to give everyone a giggle. anyone who sells L$ contributes to its decline. newcomers with bad business palns contribute to the rise in the L$. they buy stuff in SL to set up shop and never cash out because they spent it all.

Wow we are really starting to pick up some serious RL press here in SL. When Business Week does a cover story you know something is going on. What is truly awesome about this is that it not PC Gamer or some other technology centric magazine its is a Business publication that CFO’s and other financial types are reading. More...

Ah... so do you think that the readers of "Business Weekly" are more likely to come up with WORSE business plans than the average newbie merchant in SL? Sounds pretty 'funny' to me actually. But more funny 'weird' than funny 'haha'. -- Slap a shingle on that horse... join the ranks of the merchant tourists today!

From: Monique Mistral Wouldn't you tell me just who is a "communist" in SL and what does it mean? SL Communists believe that SL should be free, that everybody should have as many L$s as they want, that Content creators should continue building high quality products (for the general good), and that land owners should foot the tier bill and let people live for free on their property. Its ugly, isn't it?

The true horror of 'communism' is the upper echelons. On the surface, communism looks like a welcomed savior to the people! No longer will they be kept down in poverty! History has shown us the result, however. Eventually, those rise who will exploit the labor of others. They'll take what others have naively given for the good of the community and use those resources selfishly.

I don't sell textures (a partner sells freebies and those are ones uploaded from online that you find downstairs), and I redesigned the tub, just using the scripts. Hell, I built the tubs from ground up aside from scripts..including colors on my buttons and their shape. I also leave them completely modifable and the scripts remain open source. I also don't charge 500 for a 0l yacht No pot calling kettle black here Besides, I mentioned it to Siggy soem time ago So really, you have no basis. Lets not sell freebies, k?
