ahaha. Tried this today and it worked after a few attempts:
1. List your land at a big discount (say 2$ / m2) 2. Wait 5 seconds 3. Delist it and then quickly partition off the center part 4. Put that up for the same price you did in part 1
And wait for IMs:
"<name witheld>: give me my money back im going to report you to the lindens"
oh it was just too funny.

I appreciate that there is an anti feeling towards land traders, though I am one. However this opens the flood gates for land traders to ignore questions of ethics from land sellers who make mistakes, as this thread is clearly enjoying a 'get back at them' mentality.
If it's not ethical for land traders to exploit land sellers errors, is it ethical for land sellers to exploit land traders errors? Obviousy yes to the latter.
If I landed on a spot and was stupid enough not to check what I was buying, as the mantra goes from land traders the other way round, it's how things are, there are plenty of 'are you sure' buttons. So I fully support your right to do this. I however will not change from my practice of returning parcels sold in error at a discount price.
Just one slight problem, you are now stuck with a plot of land in the middle of which is a 16/32 sqm plot that will become an advertising board and a problem for you to get rid of it, together with your now courtyard shaped plot.
If you are really unlucky the land surrounding your plot may also come up for sale.

Well, Nowun, if I catch you I'll give your money back Your good karma will work out, don't worry. I think I can do it around the landing point. I am writing up some macros, so I can fine tune the snare a bit better. I am using AutoIT to do the rapid fire partitioning / etc. Feel free to join in the fun. I swear, this is like a cool arcade game, catch the land swooper!

Anna
I saw a great thread yesterday of someone who set up the landing spot and took snap shots on a sign stating 'land swooper', now you could incorporate an instant image be delivered to the buyer, with the sign saying something along the lines.
'Did you read the description before you clicked yes.....'
I hope this doesn't take off, but it does make me laugh. Particularly in light of the fact that there is some pleasure to be taken from a pack of land traders arriving simultaneously on to a plot.
If you fly up and look down from a long angle it does look like a gathering of birds. Except I am sometimes in the flock....

Well, this is clever. But seems to punish mainly people who deal in land as a living. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that.
Worse, it would also punish regular people who happened to see the land first.

Actually it doesn't punish people who deal in land so much as it punishes people who use scanners to swoop in and purchase plots that have been priced far under market value (often accidently). What comes around goes around.

I think they just sit around checking the Find for freakishly low prices, then TP in and buy.

While the majority of prices below market value are in error, there are some that are not. I tried my hand at searching for some deals yesterday and encountered a 512m plot that a lady was selling for 100L. When I purchased she said thanks for the buying the land. I said my thanks, returned her items and sold the land within seconds for a profit.

All I can say is I hope someday you accidentally set alot of land really low and one of your victim's buys it or someone who remembers you running this scam instead of someone who might return it. Eh?

From: Ordinal Malaprop I think they just sit around checking the Find for freakishly low prices, then TP in and buy. They must be using a different TP system to mine then... These days a tp takes anything up to a minute to complete - hardly time to 'swoop' in within the (I suspect somewhat exagerated) '5 seconds'! However the 'biter bit' element of this affords me a certain measure of glee - though in all honesty I have NO sympathy for those who misuse the land tools and end up selling their land for silly money. I've carried out lots of land manipulations in my time in SL and never had it happen to me - because I make sure I know what I'm doing before I start and carry out critical business carefully...

Doc, not to mention that the system asks if you are sure you want to sell that 8192M for 1L.
