Uh, I wasn't talking to you when I made that comment. I twas OBVIOUS when I quoted. Hint: it wasn't you I quoted. Let me teach you a little lesson: don't take me to task for something I didn't say to you. As far as the thread being ruined, well, I think ol Juania or however it's spelled has already done that. I feel the need to protect the officers of the MJW. That is the job of the Forum 5. |

this thread was ruined before it was even an idea in your mind. go do a forum search on "anshe chung", "land baron", "land angels", "these people ruined my christmas", "something something fraud something something", "view blocker", "maxx monde" Yeah, I used to care. Now I don't. Don't much like being a retroactive search term, however. Thanks. _____________________

Every f*cking time I bring something up here, some jerk has to make sure I know "what's what". With all due respect, this *is* a discussion forum. Which means that any who wishes to can post on any thread. Sometimes you aren't going to like what people post, but that's just sort of something you have to roll with. _____________________

No, I didn't do anything to make this thread hostile. I simply posited a question. No more no less. Many people in this thread were gracious enough to post their thoughts. You, OTOH, had to be a real jerk about it. If you wanted me to search the forums, then you could have simply said that. But, oh, no, gotta bitch slap the poster, right, J? Oh so typical for this forum. Some of you people (you included) are real head cases. oh yeah you really didn't attack anybody when you posted that I'm kinda turned off to some aspects of SL because land barons like you know who buy up most of the good stuff and then profiteer from it. just wish people like you know who, who's initials are A.C. didn't have such a tight hold on land. and everything in between. stop chaffing my ass. baron bashing is so 2004! _____________________

I have always thought of land barons as parasitic. Especially Schwanson. He's like crabs. And not even the kind you get from sex, the kind you get because you have to use a bathroom at a Stuckeys. Then again, he does put out and can barbeque like nobody's business, so Schwanson is ok in my book. The rest are evil. Well except Jauani. He's brilliant. And I do like Hiro Queso's struggle against Hiro Pendragon's tyrannical attempts to control the name Hiro. Plus there's our little Anshe. She does make an awesome arch-villainess. Come to think of it, SL would be boring without land barons. Then there really would only be Aimee Weber to talk about.

Of course they do. But at the same time, land barons prevent people from getting any truly good land at any kind of reasonable price, because they snap it up well before others can. I can't tell ya how sick I am of seeing those Ansche Chung "for sale" blocks on so many parcels. Including a huge amount of land behind my place. How? I don't understand. They can't snap up all the First Land. They have to buy it from people who have the first land, right? They can snap it up on the auctions, but so can anyone, right? They can buy their own sims, but so can anyone, right? They can buy from individuals, but so can anyone, right? By buying up a lot of first land from people, the people they bought it from can make a profit, while others who want to stay there can expand their land more easily. That's how I see it. What am I missing? coco _____________________

I wrote that right after I read the post of DogSpot's that I quoted, Enabran, and BEFORE I saw all the gleeful nastiness toward him that followed.
Apparently I made yet again the mistake of having a sincere discussion with someone, in which we might both learn something, which one might think was the purpose of discussion forums. I forgot that the real purpose of these forums is to be as nasty, condescending, and snide as possible, and try to be more clever than the next person in doing so. Disagreeing or not disagreeing is beside the point. Being as nasty as possible, whatever the original discussion, IS the point. And in that, I have failed yet again. DogSpot, they're just gonna live to eat you up; that's the long and short of it. You may end up saying things back you normally wouldn't say to anyone, and, if they are lucky, they'll get you to say something to report you on. And all the while they'll yuk it up among themselves like the cool kids they desperately want to be. coco _____________________

At a GOM exchange rate of $US 3.50 for $L 1000, a "land baron" must sell off every parcel in the sim they auctioned for $1000 US (plus $195 US for a month of teir) at a price of $L 5.21 per square meter just to break even. And that's assuming they sell off every parcel within a month so they don't have to pay another $195 of teir.
Assuming somebody gets a sim for $1000 US, and assuming they manage to sell off all the plots within one month, their total outlay is $1195. If they charge 6.59 per sq/meter (the last figure I saw from a well-known land baron) in a middle of the road sim, value-wise, then at the GOM exchange rate of 3.50/1000, that land baron has made 1511 $US revenue. Again, assuming they sell everything off within a month, and assuming the GOM stays stable at 3.50/1000. That's a 26% profit on that 1195 investment. However, the risks are GOM prices dropping further, or that it will take several months to sell off all the plots, which cut into the profit percentage by a large amount. I think that's a fair return on a speculative investment that costs you 1195 or more real US dollars to gamble on each time. Don't you? I'm all for limiting the "face time" and influence that the land barons have with LL, since that is never in the best interest of the commonweal. However, I very much appreciate the service that these land barons provide to the rest of us. Which of us have 1000 U.S. dollars to plunk down on a land auction? They take the risk, they cut the land into more easily-bought parcels, and they make a fair profit. What's wrong with that? Everyone wins. |

I see. What you seem to be incapable of understanding is that the only issue I have in this thread is J's smart ass tactics. I have never acted in a way that would indicated that I get upset when people disagree with me. The fact that you are willing to continue to poke at me shows a distinct lack of character and a very, very distinct unwillingness to accept new people who don't somehow fit your pre-definte mold of "goodness". I am happy to discuss both pros and cons of the topic. I am not willing to accept comments that are solely intended to provoke me. And I am unwilling to remain mute when this happens. |
