I fail to see the connection with the gaming/gambling ban and the SL economy. My observations of the people who "play" this game (or, for those who prefer, use this platform) are that only a very few are here to earn a real income and even fewer are here for any real investments. I know it can be done with hard work, creativity and a little luck but that is just not what 95% (or more) of the people here are doing......they are here for the intertainment, escape, creativity, or experiences.
Yeah gambling is probably a big attraction to many (though not nearly most of us) so those will suffer a little withdrawal pains. Heck I miss the sploders that I use to play..but I'll get over it. I think some people are putting way too much importance on any type of "regulation". Some regulation is absolutely necessary to insure success for a business that LL wants SL to be......without it, the whole thing comes apart with scams, theft and very real dangers of physical harm to real life. Contrary to wishful thinking Utopia cannot exist in a real world......it's impossible due the nature of the human being. Someone has to be in charge. Otherwise it's simple anarchy. And only the dishonest and cheats prosper in a society ruled by anarchy.
Your whole statement seemed to revolve around regulations......and how you fear them. I agree with a part of that thought. I don't want some government having exclusive control. However, there needs to be some control........Linden Lab would seem to be the logical choice. But they've shied away from that responsibility. So it is were it is right now......no control except when some government threatens LL with some sort of sanction (or LL believes is it threatened by said government). That's a haphazzard way to set and impliment policy or rules (control). Instead of protesting the LindEx why not protest LL to take control of their business..........before some government does it for them?
I might be willing to join you if that were your plan......but I won't protest LindEx for being the root of the problem.......because it is not. It's lack of control......no focus on a future.

*sigh*
It's tiring, ignoring the naivete of those who have somehow deluded themselves into believing that online "gambling" programs are as innocent as the quaint numbers racket and sports book that the corner bookie runs for the Mafia.
To the extent that the SL economy depended on this form of mind-control, I'd be glad to see it collapse, and good riddance. But somehow it's doing just fine, despite a couple weeks of unprecedented service unreliability and relentless dumping of fresh sims on the auction market.
This dead horse now reeks.

I hate to say it but I have not noticed much or any difference in sales even though its summer. Maybe a bit less but not much. The only argument casino owners have and its one that makes sense is that they had no warning.
The fact remains that the decision was made by a company trying to maintain business relations and be more or less kosher with the internet. I dont think they really had a choice in the matter.
There are only two options to casino owners 1) change your games to somethign that is not gambling or open some kind of business that you might enjoy if you have some other interest 2) in the event you have no other interest in sl then to run a casino and can't find a way to still be a part of sl then this second choice is to just no longer be a part of SL.
I think #2 is drastic as there are plenty of things you can still do either as a purely making sl a game or changing your direction.
Me I have many "SL dreams" I dont have enough time in a day to implement them all cause I want to do it all "right now" . Everywhere I look I see things I want to try and do and I come up with new ideas all the time, but for me the two things at the bottom of my list was the XXX and the Gambling because its umm so ordinary to me. In any event there are plenty of fun things to turn to and I honestly dont think the economy is suffereing from lack of casinos (not yet anyhow if it ever does ?).
The casino owners have been burned and casinos and gambling should have been phased out but at the same time I have read comments from LL that it was impossible to phase out as the need was for right now. I can see some other things that could have been done, but then I wonder if it really would have mattered. People would still be upset that they can no longer operate their casinos

From: Raymond Figtree I know the competition that will come along someday is learning from LL's mistakes. But do they have to make so many?

If anything, the gambling ban should be good for the economy. With no rigged games around to steal their money, people will have more free time to shop and more L$ to buy things from creators of actual content.

One reason SL will not collapse....
There are to many other things to do.
Wow, they banned gambling. The only gambling I miss are Sploders and that is mostly just when I am DJing so I can kick back 50% of my tips to the crowd.
Gambling is not the end all be all of SL, Sex is not the end all be all of SL, nor is weapons. Honestly all 3 of these things could go and as long as there are good sociable people on SL I will be here in my spare time, and I am sure all those that complain that they are only here for Gambling, Sex and Weapons will find reasons to stay to.
BTW I am just waiting for casino ad plot prices to fall though the floor so I can get rid of all of them in my Sim, there are very few anyway, but it is a wishful dream to be casino ad free. I do own roughly 50% of the road side ad plots in my sim. When I own them all I will sell most to the bording neighbor if he/she wants them and use the kick back to buy some more useful land.

Just think.
You're never going to get the half hour you wasted typing that up back. It's gone. Forever. Your life is a half hour shorter now.
