It's not about what LL still supporting keyboards, it's the jerkwads who will want everyone to voice with them and refuse to use said keyboard.
Exactly my point. Descriminating against those who refuse to voice or basing judgement of a person on what you hear in SL, is jerkwadish to the extreme, however, that is a moral judgement and most people in SL or elsewhere don't work by moral judgement. Using voice as a qualifier is too tempting to the average individual, especially the noob who barely, if ever, remembers a time before voice chat. Immoral as it may be, I believe those that refuse to voice will be discriminated against.

Yep, guaranteed. Those who dont see it are playing Ostritch.

Hopefully as many say will still be a place for the non voicing memebers. Sounds like there will be.

But yes since-non voicing discrimination already exists- its only going to get much worse when it become the defacto SL standard communication.

Then Lets bring in Webcam feeds - Make those mandatory also.

Then Pipe all this information to the Office of Homeland Security.

Or Department of , whatever.

Only as long as I'm allowed to put a sticky note over my webcam saying "be back soon."

Voice In SL?

I think it will be a horrendous audio clusterf@#$! It will drive avatars away from each other just to be able carry on single conversations... Talk about "Mute Resident"...

Then I'll just put more sticky notes and they can come in and take them off themselves. :)

I am pretty against voice chat.

I mean. If you are lazy and want to talk by using your own voice (a.k.a voice chat) then get out of here. There are plenty voice chat virtual world out there.

WHY do you want to add voice chat in SECONDLIFE? What's for? You have telephone, cellphone..or blackberry thingie in real life? Then use it.

Secondlife belongs to Keyboard. Keyboard belongs to Secondlife. They married since day 1. Stop trying to break them up!

Great Survey!!!...... Not!!!!

To see the total picture you have to add the likes up ...this person put in several likes to split the like vote and only one negative and so the results at first glance say that people do not like it when in fact if you add up the ones who voted for it, the results are in the high 60 percentile. in order for the poll to be fair you have to limit your choices to Like or Dislike, for each pro you must have a counter con. like for "somewhat like" you have to have a "Somewhat dislike" etc.

My girlfriend will want to use this feature and I wont. I'll miss out on half the stuff that happens on SL once voice is added. It's a terrible idea and I'll probably lose even more interest in the game than I already have.

"It would be an awful thing for those who use SL to play opposite gender roles. I think there would be pressure on everyone to use it, or their gender would be suspect."
(Lorelei Patel) #10

I d like to underline once again how many people dont think in a socio-psychological way.
Lorelei hits the center of the problem: SL - in its main and original spirit - is an environment for playing and/or testing our different personalities. A part of our brain is deeply involved here and this is quite useful for our RL sanity itself. So from this point of view voice - just like other RL intrusions and *off topic* issues - is simply a nonsense.

Hear hear. While I use voice when my friends do, I almost never do if they don't.

i think voice has its place and time. but it ain't for "everything" for "all the time"!

i went to a tech class inworld where the teacher used voice and the rest of us would text. in another instance a friend of mine was showing me how to edit terrain and stuff on my new land.

in either of those 2 circumstance or situations (classroom or instructional) i think voice was far more convenient for all parties.

but......for merely chatting???!
pls. you gotta be kidding.
w/all due respect - don't you have any rl friends in your life already (sighhh)

Only if there are two options,..?
10-07-2009 20:08
It would be great for those who want to participate. But only if theres the option to continue typing.Make it a a second choice,or a lot of people will opt out, imho. Some people just dont have mics,or stuff like that, and wouldnt want to go buy one just for SL.Hm,..having said that, there ARE those who would put their hard earned money into SL for anything they want. So,I say why not,but again,..only as an option, not requirement.
