it's the typical grade school reaction....punish the lot for a few bad apples....the Lindens would make excellent Nazis.

Necroposting?...what is that?

Necroposting = Resurrecting a dead thread. Some forums even consider posting to a thread that's moved off of the first page of New Posts necroposting, but I'm much more liberal than that. :)

So because of that, I didn't lose 30K in like a few hours? Oh, thank you so much, I'm glad that silliness isn't affecting me.

No because your bank is a reputable bank that either has the RL protocols and licencing or will get it to keep their customers happy, if they weren't, they would just take your money and run :P

The following might as well read "Please note that you could very well get screwed if you give us your Linden monies."

This is from the Ginko Financial Information note card you receive from them upon even considering opening an account with them. I did but was lucky enough to ignore it because I was too lazy to go out of my way to port to an ATM and bother with the depositing and all that. Hehe Besides I didn't think the pennies interest was worth the risk without any backup should Ginko flop.

Anyway...

From: someone
OVERVIEW

Ginko Financial allows Second Life users to open savings accounts with a daily yield which allows them to make money on their spare cash, instead of just letting it sit in their accounts doing nothing. Ginko Financial takes part of the total cash deposited and gives loans to various trustworthy entities and persons, to make the money necessary to pay the daily interest rate. We keep a healthy reserve in pure linden dollars to pay people who wish to take money out of their accounts, so almost all withdrawals are cleared within minutes/hours, some being instantaneous. We would however like to make clear that, in order to pay the interest rate, we must put the money to profitable use. That being the case, we cannot guarantee that we will always have enough to pay people quickly, though we will endeavour to do so. Also, there is inherent business risk involved in this venture. These accounts not being insured in any way by any government, like in the case of most real life savings accounts, we cannot guarantee that we will never go bankrupt. Of course, we don't want to, and will work to keep our institution solid, but you must understand that the risk exists.

Note how they warn you of the risk. If you invest in any bank, legit or not, "real" or not they should always warn you that there is at least some risk involved and how things are resolved in a worst case scenario. Real world banking should be FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) insured... at least here in the US, because of what happened during the Great Depression, not sure about other countries.

You should never give your money to an institution based on faith. Even RL banks don't have your money in the bank. Where do you think the money for loans and other investments comes from? They do have the insurance and everything to back it up though. SL banks didn't and I think LL did the right thing even if they can't refund everyones losses, as they are not liable for anyone else's poor investment decisions. That'd be like yelling at your mom for throwing away the Halloween candy that had syringes and razorblades sticking out of it. She can take you to buy some candy and make you feel better... But she certainly doesn't have to and maybe even hopes that it'll teach you a lesson to look before you bite into the strangers candy next time.

I would contact them, rather complain on here. Reason being is that complaining on the forum doesnt help the situation. Contact then, and try not to be angery. If you act like you are yelling at them then they will be less likely to help you. Be mature, calm, and profecional in your words when you contact the Linden Labs people.

Though I don't know all the details of the situation. But I would still try to contact them.
