(No need to check. I'm a Neualtenburger also.)
Yes, the election is for members of the Neualtenburg Projekt. So the issues in the election belong in the Neualtenburg forum. But the news that an election is being held, in the "far-off" state of Neualtenburg, is (SL) world-wide news.
Sorry folks, but face it. SL is a group of people. Real people, dressed up as avatars. Living real lives in SL. Land, stores, relationships, sex, emotions, wealth. This is real, get it? Real live humans in social and economic relationships.
And, sorry again. Real live humans have never succeeded very well at living together, for very long, without rules and structure which insure the shared values that people have. As Wall Street says, "Caveat Emptor!". Let the buyer beware. Works great in the animal world. Then people feel they want some of the better things of life. Peace, fair dealings, decency among each other. And they adopt a structure to their relationships.
That's what's happening in Neualtenburg, and the world ought to know. Structure is how humans got to be human, and its coming to all of SL eventually. No, to all "alternate realities". This isn't a game folks.

From: Alexa Hope I am sorry Gwynneth, but I can't see it being of any interest at all to other than project members. Alexa *Hands up* I'm interested, as of any 'new' thing happening around SL. And I'm not a project member. Government might or might not be good, that's a personal opinion. I'm more on the 'not good' side, though, though LL 'dictatorship' isn't always good enough (some griefers/extortion people are sometimes just not kicked out, when they should be

I am an NBerger, and while I think player governments are a very important topic for the General forum, Neaultenburg is not.
This is by far not the first democratic ellection, relevant and not, in SL.
You may notice that all groups have election capabilities. I know of many instances when those capabilities have been used. I'm sure we all have.

Taken from The last paragraph on pg. 16 of Cory Ondrejka's paper " Changing Realities: User Creation, Communication, and Innovation in Digital Worlds : " User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

You may notice that all groups have election capabilities. I know of many instances when those capabilities have been used. I'm sure we all have. This is much different than an ad-hoc majority-rules vote in SL. Here's how: - We have the first complete constitution in SL.
- We use alternative voting methods as opposed to simple majority-rules votes.
- We use Borda-count ranked votes for faction members and factions.
- We use the Sainte-Laguë method to allocate seats on a Representative Assembly.
- We have formal and regular methods for changing our leadership.
- The system has been created to promote a diversity in political views.
This is something new. In my opinion it's one of the first true general-interest news stories that's been in this forum in a while. We are not selling anything. We are not promoting an event. We are announcing the creation of the first true government in SL. ~Ulrika~

From: Moopf Murray Exactly, which is why this belongs in your group forum. If people are interested they'll go there and find out. If you can't respect the rules put in place by LL, I don't think much of an organized society created by you, eh? They can't exactly go there and find out if they don't know it exists can they Moopf? I'm about as anti-government as they come but it's certainly no skin off my nose to read this announcement. Sheesh people. Congrats Ulrika and all the N'bergers on reaching your first milestone.

Perhaps the General forums are not the best place for making general announcements... Wait. What did I just write? That doesn't make any sense! That's exactly what the General forums are about This was just an announcement of something that's going on in Second Life! Like the TV News, if you don't like what's on the telly, press the power button, or switch channels. Don't kill the messenger...

Ulrika; As this is on LL land and why, I can understand why you posted here. As for the elections and pushing for gov't. Good luck as you know I am interested in seeing how this process via SL will work. I'm still on the fence about Gov't in SL, but I applaud you for trying something new in SL. good luck to you and your group. Cat

OK, I see it appears I'm in the minority so I'll say no more about it and bow to peer comments. And don't worry Jauani I'll make sure I never post on here again about project Numbskull.

The voting results are in! Read the results and a detailed analysis in this thread. I'll post the names of the new assembly members shortly. ~Ulrika~

From: Ulrika Zugzwang It is society emerging from the primordial anarchy that defined SL in its first years -- and it is all yours. ~Ulrika~ but... but... I like primordial anarchy! (must remember to put away all valuables and $L for safe keeping before entering Neualtenburg... ) I do like the name "Neualtenburg" though. Kind of like neoarcheology.
