From Robin Linden - at

Account Credit for Service Disruption

Last week we suffered a two-day period (from 12/29 wednesday PM through 12/31 friday PM) where very few people were able to log into Second Life, due to a failure in a database disk. We are going to issue a two day credit to all users who pay recurring fees (those with premium accounts and those who own land) to cover this period. The credit will be equal to 2 days of your estimated monthly fees, which is calculated as the sum of your monthly premium fee and your projected land tier fees on the amount of land that you own as of today. This credit will be deducted from your next recurring payment. Your specific credit can be viewed by visting your account section on the Second Life website.

Again, we apologize for the interruption last week. There are more upgrades underway to both hardware and software - as we continuously improve the reliability and performance of Second Life.

Excellent!

Thank You!

Since I'm a lifetime member who owns under the 4096m lifetime land allotment, I pay no monthly fees. But good on you, LL, for crediting accounts for the downtime; it's a wise and classy thing to do. :)

I got one too. I was amazed. I'm in awe.

But what's a picnic without ants....I couldn't help wondering why they didn't issue the credit in Lindens in-world instead of ex-world....

Thus showing, once again, why Linden Lab stands uniquely alone in a glut of onlinecus generica. ;)

Well, if almost everyone gets a credit of the same value in their account, won't this just dilute the value of the Linden proportionally, with a net result of nothing for you?

Thanks for starting the thread, Merwan. It was a very classy move on LL's part. They didn't have to but it was very considerate of them. Just a guess, but it may cost them more to process the credits than the sum of the credits together - which somehow makes it even more gracious.

The credit will be a USD credit towrads your next bill, not an L$ credit. It won't impact the in world economy at all.

Not to be a jerk but what about the people with Lifetime Accounts?
I dont pay tier but I still lost in game business for 2 days. Nevermind the fact I got in twice in 2 days and got the boot teleporting.

I'm happy for the others but all should be treated the same.

Yeap, just woke up to the E-mail, TY LL, this is very kind of you, although I am wondering how I will fare, as I paid twice once for my land tier and once for my new sim, as alot of said above and beyond.

Ty :)

That is what I am pondering... I suspect they WILL reimburse Island owners too... they don't wanna open themselves up for more shite do they?
