He called me a wanker and dismissed a whole field of study as "pretentious wankers who don't provide any benefit to the world. "

He advocated destroying something simply because he judged it as not being real. I am tolerant, and expect the same. I also am trained to mirror people. Its automatic now, that is my training.

Whether I believe any of what I say at all or even in regards to that chap is 100% irrelevant to my intention. To get the rise out of him that he failed to get out of me, using the principles he insists don't exist, was my strategy. And for the record, neither sociology nor psychiatry is my field of study, but they both heavily place into what I do.

I pushed buttons that I would not have even known about without the field of study called into question. I find the irony amusing.

And just as he can predict how much load a column can bear, I illustrated my point that I could more or less predict human response to stimuli. (not always, humans are tricky that way)

I stated an opinion and was attacked. I tend not to curl in a ball and chant when that happens, I should, but I don't. I am not the bastion of goodness here, but lets face facts he attacked 1st. And sure I have an ego, you need one to survive in this forum.

And I don't take anything from the guy in terms of intelligence and what not, but just because he deems it not to exist, contribute, or to be unworthy will make him stop being a student when he ends his college courses. There is more to life than 1 reality, and I try to be tolerant of those who I disagree with. I may debate, but I generally don't go into personal attacks in a debate.

The day I stop learning is the day I die. That is my perspective and I am entitled to that.

I'm terribly sorry if you disapprove, wasn't looking for a gang or fan club anyway. That is what is wrong with the forums to begin with. I wish you well.

Everything you have said in this thread tells *me* that you are a fairly conservative, hard-core, "nuts and bolts" scientist type. It's in, (and between) every word you write. You admit to being an enginering student, and have demonstrated a great hatred of the social sciences, psychology, etc. That's about as far as one can go to towards the "patriarchal conservative scientist" end of the scale!

Maybe you vote Liberal, or Democrat or whatever it is there, but since you have damned about half of human knowldge here, that certainly makes you a conservative by outlook if not by political incination. No Liberal or left-leaning thinker would be behind any of your ideas, why the trouble over the conservative label?

I think that the guy was been mean, or is stupid.

Stupid: because he called a stranger a slut, and then expect apologies when he get neg rated.
Mean: because you can't be _that_ stupid ; he probably was trying to piss someone off gratuitously (and probably don't care about the neg in fact).

I thought the same but after reading Ardiths contributions to /112/77/33653/1.html , I realize how wrong I was. That explains how angry he got when I called him a conservative (I sincerely apologize Ardith, that is about the worst insult that there is, a wanker was quite mild in comparison)

I am willing to give his attack leeway on a possible bad day, as his posts in that topic has Ardith preaching about intolerance. So at this point, no hard feelings Ardith and hope the same from you.

I still disagree about his views, but you know what they say about opinions.

I can't of course speak for what Mulch's training is, Katt, But mirroring is widely taught to trainee counsellors.

It was noticed that two persons in a naturally highly empathic communication appeared to subconsciously adopt mirror reflected bodily positions, even down to mirroring dynamic gestures.

Several counselling theories use the concept of "Unconditional Positive Regard", based on the discovery that a client appears to be able to self-heal if supplied with a genuine listener who can project this quality, including most importantly communicating genuine empathy. Not sympathy (useless), but empathy.

Since natural empathy seems to generate mirroring, someone tried it the other way round. Deliberately mirror. Will it communicate and reinforce the clients perception of empathy ? Answer (surprisingly perhaps) - yes - big-time.

So it is incorporated. So it is taught. At first you feel foolish and false doing it, but the more comfortable and relaxed and unconscious to the therapist it becomes, the better it works. I think perhaps it is this habituation process, in himself, that Mulch may possibly be describing.

Nothing backhanded about it. Katt happens to be my very sexy and devoted wife. As such, I reserve the right to slice and dice anyone who offends her. But she won't tell me who Mr. X is because she doesn't want to see me get suspended, and probably for good reason.
