cool idea! good luck with the project. one point of criticism: i noticed people can rate multiple times. i think you limit it to once per IP address or something when you figure out how. if it's possible.

also having a last name blank would be nice for signups. my first and last name are more than 16 characters.

Hehe.. I acutally like the idea for the site. I would post a profile portfolio, but I noticed all these shots seem to be 350x350. The FAQ on the site doesn't seem to mention acceptable image dimensions.. Is 1024x768 acceptable for submissions?

Thank you all SO much for giving me feedback. I do appreciate the suggestions, questions, and criticism. Please bear with me as this is a beta and I'm having to crash-course alot of this stuff.

Here's the deal.
- I'm going to bang out the site code, rules, image guidelines etc tonight at work.
- I'll be making the site look less... templatey tomorrow.
- If a php coder is willing to help, and can get the sitecode into shape as I specify it, I'd be willing to pay in the tens of USD range. ($50-$60 or so, I'm nearly broke here and don't expect to make hella lewt off this)
- the FIC logo was borrowed without permission as a quick joke to the people that wrote and demanded I remove the 'who rated me' function. As I didn't want to risk breaking something, I replaced the formatting with the FIC logo and a witty note. I will remove the image tomorrow.
- As for profile images, they're restricted to 640x480, max file size 500k. Please take some time in photoshop/gimp/etc to make it pretty-ish. The sitecode scales them down in the pages to fit the template.
- Don't fret over ratings, at the moment there aren't enough people for it to average itself out, I"m going to do what I can about the ratings system, and try and fix the 'you've seen it everything' message (that annoys me to no end).
- Also, as a slight plug, if anyone wants to advertise their skins/cosmetics/etc then send me a standard sized small GIF of JPEG and I'll put it in the banner cycler for a week for free.
- about drama, yes, there might be drama, opening a site like this like opening a vegan joint next to a steakhouse and sharing the parking lot. Things can get tense. Don't take it to seriously. If anything gets TOO hot, I'll step in. But, because this site depends on visitors, a little drama goes a long way. The vegans and coboys will keep coming for the good eats, and the chance to start somthing. Being something of a social engineer, I like to watch this. forgive me.

You are leaving out pretty much all mac users there and considering the number of mac users on SL you might want to change it.

That's 640x480 or 500k, whichever restriction you hit first, right? Just curious, as I can't even remember going over 400k for a high quality 1024x768 JPG.
I think using art programs should be restricted to just cropping and down-sizing screenshots, as artifically altering/prettying up the pics would feel more like RateMyPhotoshopSkills.com rather than RateMyAv.com.

I actually didn't know that was happening. Can someone throw a MiniMac my way so I can find a workaround? Perhaps when I take a shinehammer it it'll work. Are you getting a rendering problem or an actual error message?

Well. By photoshop I mean correct any lighting or other issues that arise from screenshots.
I know thatI have to raise the curve-levels a tad on mine.

No matter what the environment, people get pleasure out of knocking people down - especially when they can do it anonymously - it doesn't surprise me how quickly people drop - you will always have assholes who have nothing better to do than rate people as 1 just to disrupt things.
