Avatar Central returning to Aqua

Here's a couple of screenshots of BlackAdder's progress on Avatar Central and the Aqua revitalization in progress

I'm happy to report that I just finished that front section of the roof. I believe it was Eric Linden who said, "Roof wasn't built in a day."

Good News: The build is nearing completion.

Bad News: Construction is postponed until an inquiry from Ryan Linden is resolved. it concerns my acquisition and use of the original AvC build. Since our conversation is being conducted via one-a-day offline IM, it could take a while.

For the record, I sent my original inquiry to the general support email address. The reply granting permission to proceed, signed by Lee Linden, was received January 6th. I just sent an IM with that info to Ryan. I'll post an update here when this is sorted out.

Wow. This really brings back memories.

One of the first things I made in SL was a wrist-watch. I still remember, it was modelled after a Rolex Datejust.

My first sale ever happened in Avatar Central. I was overjoyed, I had some pocket money to spend buy some of that nephiwear I'd been eyeing

I like to think what I make now is a bit more refined. That little script has been built on, revised, and updated so many times since. I've since retired the Datejust, but the watches I sell today are still a derivative of that humble little script.

BlackAdder, if you're able to get Avatar Central up and going, and you still have space, I would love the chance to exhibit there again. Best of luck you

Since Ryan is just asking for info, and not accusing me of anything nefarious, I continue to hope for the best. In a way, it's kind of flattering. I thought it was only Eggy who gets this kind of 'personal attention' from the Lindens.

Having heard nothing additional from Ryan, I've restarted construction work. After finishing (yes, as in 'finished') the second floor this evening, I turned around to assess my progress. And I instantly realized that the build is extremely close to completion. In fact, I am now shopping around for a fork big enough to stick in it, because I rather expect it to be done by Sunday.

After that, I can calculate prim limits for merchants, and send them the details...and begin making arrangements for the Grand Re-opening event...

Yes, vendor space will be free. Of course, there will be prim limits; the exact amount will probably be known in about ten days.

Yes, I was giving preference to sellers who were in either of the two original stores. But I'm also inviting some new vendors. I've added both your names to the vendor list. You should be getting a note from me inworld in about two weeks with finalized info for vendors.

It would be a real help if you could give me a general idea what sort of merchandise you plan to be selling, so I can reserve appropriate space. (Please post here or IM.)

Finally, there's news regarding the construction delay while the Lindens were reconsidering exactly what's permitted when re-using Linden content.

We've got it sorted out now. Happily, only minimal changes were needed, and I've got approval to proceed with the project. My thanks go out to Daniel Linden for acting as a liason, and helping bring matters to a conclusion.

Meanwhile, the build is now 98% finished. My tentative schedule is to open the store over the course of the next week, and have the Grand Re-opening Event take place as early as Sunday, 27th March.

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to shop!

Sorry I took so long to respond, Eggy. I've been monster busy in this game I play called FirstLife.

To summarize the concerns that Daniel expressed; they wanted it to be crystal clear that Avatar Central - Aqua is not an official Linden build; and also made clear that the Lindens did not give me the build, prims or textures, which would have the appearance of favoritism. Both of those were also concerns of mine which I had expressed in my original inquiry; and for the most part, I had already taken care of things to LL's satisfaction.

The only new request was that I remove any signs, logos, etc., which might suggest that the store is a Linden build. In practical terms, this simply meant altering the signs to remove the SL Hand logo--a simple matter of texture stretching. So after all the hoopla, the signs have been sanitized and........

Pardon me for shouting, but I couldn't help it.

Without fanfare or bloodshed, Avatar Central - Aqua quietly opened for business last night. I've not yet set a definite date and time for the Grand Opening event, but I hope to finalize plans later this week.

The first few vendors have already set up their displays, and I expect it to be at least a week until all of the first dozen are settled in. There's no point trying to express how incredible it is for me to see my two months of hard labor suddenly become a living, breathing store.

For the sake of historical accuracy, let it be known that the first vendor display to be completed was ARMORD. It seemed like Marcos did the whole thing in about 45 seconds; and it looks fabulous.

I had the priveledge of spending an interesing and entertaining evening helping Soulcatcher Crossing set up her display on the second floor. And by 'helping' I mean sitting on the sideline, making sarcastic comments.

My warmest thanks go out to Marcos, Soul, and Ingrid for making it a really happy evening.

The products look great in there, it sort of looks like a department store. I love the display counters and lighting. I'm sorry I never got to see the first one but happy to be part of this.

Love it! Can't wait 'till its big enough to have real "departments"!

I mean who wouldn't want to go shopping at a store that shows quality items from numerous merchants organized by type of item! ^_^ (Or is it's just me that gets all the Macy's promos every week? ^^;
