Huh?

Jauani was just bringing up an old thread hoping to provoke an angry response, because I answered her original snipe (another old thread reference) with a logical response.

Jauani, really. I can always back up my arguments, and if I can't when challenged, I admit I'm wrong. In this case, you're taking snipes at me from a thread that was a completely different situation. We've already hashed through the other thread. It was closed.

I can't say that I really have any gripes about the forums. There's minor annoyances here and there but it's nothing compared to the number of times per day this forum makes me laugh out loud or think about something interesting in ways I hadn't before. The recent reduction in rancor and drama is greatly appreciated.

50% of the time i have no idea what you are talking about. 50% of the time you have no you are talking about.

Without naming names,

What's your biggest forum gripe?

A bunch of reforms have been made over the past 6 months, including policy and enforcement changes.

What are the things that still bother you?

Personally, my biggest gripe:
- people who routinely bring up the same topics over and over again in a time span far too short for opinions to have changed

I have no gripes about the forums per se, just certain individuals. My two pet peeves would be hypocrisy and martyrdom, which often go hand in hand. I am also with Jonquille on the thin skinned baby factor.

A real martyr sits around and takes it and begs for more. That would be what I call a "doormat." I suppose that would be preferable to standing up for oneself?

I've held off posting in this thread because whenever I typed how I felt, I got sugar diabetes and had to get off the computer. (No, I'm not making fun of people with diabetes, it's just an expression, :p

Anyway, I should try again. I LOVE This Forum! There I said it.

I find the company here engaging, witty, extremely educated, passionate about what they believe in and very very entertaining (is that the same as engaging?).

By posting/reading/interacting here, I have increased my debating skills 100%. I find myself expessing my points much better in RL. Not that I was an idiot before, but just out of practice since leaving school.

The forums enhance my enjoyment of Second Life. I admit to getting way excited when I see someone in-world whose post I have read in the Forums.

Yes there are bad parts. And sometimes I feel like I have to defend my point of view, but, and this is the big part, it is such a challenge to do it in a way that I can respect myself for. And when I accomplish this, it's such an endorphin booster that I am smiling for the rest of the day.

I want to hug everyone that is hurt or confused or feeling down. I wish I could give them a Vulcan Mind Meld and let them see the beauty that is them. Every person on this board is a beautiful unique soul. And that is wonderful because it would be so boring if we all thought alike and acted the same.

Life is a weird thing, and we are where we are by weird quirks of fate. Your great great grandfather met your great great grandmother by crossing a street on the left side instead of the right which he would normally have done. Things are so random and anyone of us could be in the other person's shoes so easily. Because I love myself, I have to love everyone else or nothing makes sense. I don't have to love what they do, but as a person.

One day I was walking through the train station in DC and I was looking at all the unique people from all over the world. People who just a couple of hundred years ago could have been warring if they were in a hundred yards of each other. And I thought, this is beautiful, we can all come together and interact and I can love each of this people without inherent hatred. And I started to hum "What a beautiful world we all live in, what a glorious time to be free". Just then, a couple came around the corner, they were co-workers of mine and the woman had pressed false sexual harrassment charges against me to get her out of some trouble with some paperwork I had processed for her. Boy was God/Goddess/Allah/Great Green Arklesiezure mocking me. I didn't say anything to them, even if I had smiled, it would have been perceived as harrassment. But I said yes, I can love her too. And my mind opened up, my heart lifted and I felt free and beautiful and light and tears welled up in my eyes. The ability to love anyone in spite of what has been done to you is a gift of joy. The Greatest Gift I can give you is to Love one another as I have Loved you. What an amazing concept, huh.

So I love the forums, I love all of you beautiful people. I especially love Linden Labs.

Okay, see, I warned you didn't I?

I wish the ignore feature was more productive. I'd like to substitute my own image link for anything they post, or at best, not see their postings or even things posted by them quoted by anyone else. It would be fine for me if they just dropped off the face of my info-verse.

I have the restraint to not click on posts and threads that are from ignored people, but this addition would make it more complete and those ignored truly out of sight, out of mind.

Oh, and the 'Turn-on-the-stream-of-consciousness-type-polls' really are noise. "What if my cock fell off, comments?", "Why does cheese smell?", "I wonder if I can levitate myself by thinking about it", etc... Do we really want to know? Again, that circles back to the anemic ignore tools.

Also, the forums generally blow. Adam, bring back SLBlogger so I can read something useful again from other residents. (Yes, I know you're working on it...)

See this is exactly the kind of post and poster that gives these forums the unfriendly atmosphere that permeates them today like the unholy stench of putrid entrails spewing from some split open disease ridden dead rat in a downtown alleyway. I propose we ban troublemakers like this and all will be at peace in the world
The Forums have totaly gone to hell now though. :(
I feel that the only thing good about them now is Kris Ritter and those that "get" her.

I would also like to say that I dont know why the Lindens thought they had to chuck her out of the game. I have seen many many people attempt similar feats and not even get close to finishing. Kris was at least able to wear the attachment *and* sing the song. I feel her disqualification for the dance section, and eventual banning over the literature she used was entirely unfair.

When are the Lindens going to get it through their heads that people *like* that sort of thing. I saw lots of folks laughing quite hard at the time, and I find it interesting that no one claims to remember that, now that the Lindens have come down against the whole performance. Also, the party was on Linden land, and I was told by a Linden that what she did was *officially* sanctioned at the time!

I just dont get it.

i wish ignore worked like the yahoo music station.

people rate posters. then they pick posters whose ratings they trust. this can be combined to provide some overall rating. then one selects what rating is their threshold. so let's say maxx rates me 4 and sets his ignore threshold at 3. he sees my post. but then he adds hiro to his buddy list. hiro has me rated at 1, so my rating drops below 3 and now maxx no longer sees my posts. then he adds ingrid who has me rated at 10 so suddenly not only can he see my post, but it is hilited and has a blinky neon border to signify *must read*.

this system would make the forum a lot more fun.

Yes, and it would ensure you would never ever have to endure another post from Ludacris.
