Which again, calls into question why someone would make such a grand public announcement about ignoring some. My theory is that some folks thrive on the drama such an action creates.

It's like people who make a huge public comment about how their going to "leave a forum" and come back later. The people who really want to leave or ignore will just do so. Quietly.

One thing IS certain. Not all drama queens are quite so obvious in the attention getting tactics. But in the end drama queen is drama queen.

Well, in all fairness, announcing you are going to AR people, sometimes repeatedly, isn't any better, if not worse form.

As am I, for posting that I was ignoring.

As for Cocoa -- she's not really upset that I'm ignoring her, only that I announced doing so.

Somehow, I get the feeling it was the manner in which you announced it.

No doubt. But frankly, when someone has done that good a job of convincing me they are a pointless waste of time, I'm just quirky enough to confirm that is the case when finally deciding to write them off.

There are really very few people here that I consider a pointless waste of time. But those who've made the short list will never say they don't know it.

And what, exactly, does his act add to the ambience of this forum? ...the 2-month Sitzkrieg we experienced after the admins changed the rules is largely over. The forums are back to their normal, backstabbing, confrontive, carping, whiny ways.

Substantive discussion, get thee behind us.

I didn't say that blaze's performance art adds to "the ambience" of this forum, now, did I? In fact, I was using the term "performance art" satirically, and in a way that largely agreed with your own points.

I also suggested that the sitzkrieg is being destroyed by people who respond as desired by performance artists like blaze - like you did. Do not misunderstand: I enjoy blaze's art as aesthetic statements of planned rebellion, and I mean no insult to you - I think your posts are almost always sincere and worthwhile.

As for The State of the Second Life Forums, over the last several months I've concluded that they are mostly for entertainment - a dimension of Second Life as a "game". I don't take them very seriously anymore. I would like to very much, and when I find someone making a serious and sincere comment, I try to respond in kind.

But when you have self-aggrandizing forum provocateurs writing thinly-veiled personal attacks on others of a more vulnerable intellectual stature, and others praising their efforts as "brilliant" and "peace-making", and "tell it like it is!", it's tough to see these forums as anything more than an off-Broadway circus.

Like Chip Midnight, I roll my eyes a lot. But these days I also like to laugh.

The 'general' and 'off topic' forums are definitely so. But they are hardly the only forums here. I find it interesting that you do not admit to your own part in the reality of what these two forums are within the greater whole.

A serious question here -- who are you talking about? And do you not consider your judgement of anyone here being of a 'vulnerable intellectual stature' as a broad-based attack of any number of people?

Along the same vein, do you actually think it is alright to publicly proclaim there are people here who are of 'more vulnerable intellectual stature' and still take issue with whomever you're referring to in the above paragraph?

Are you truly so blind to your own hypocrisy that you can make that statement with a straight face?

So, if you write them off you're stop talking to them and stop making comments about them?I mean why comment if you've written them off (btw, it's doubtful if any such individuals care at all about that).

Serious? Alright.... No, I do not consider the statment an attack. I am aware of the fact - as you are - that people have differing talents which contribute to their strengths and weaknesses in different contentious environments. I pointed out - as, no doubt, you realized - that it is always more humane to recognize the implications of that fact, and respond in kind. Cindy speaks of the breaking of a sitzkrieg. One of the ways to avoid that breaking is to exercise humanity, even when others do not.

You may consider my comment to be a self-criticism, if you like, Cienna, because I am of a "vulnerable intellectual stature" on these forums - there are people like yourself who are far quicker of wit here than I am.

From: Cienna Samiam

Yes. Because in spite of my "agility of the intellect deficiencies" and my rather pompous and clunky style of expressing myself here, I still try to soldier on. I honestly believe that nearly everyone has something worthwhile to contribute - and even if I really don't believe that, I make myself believe it in principle - because it's an absolutely vital principle for human relations. I couldn't retain my hope and my desire to be helpful, otherwise. I don't regard the diversity of skills here, or in real life, as a deficiency. Even I can teach someone on a far higher plane a thing or two.

From: Cienna Samiam
Are you truly so blind to your own hypocrisy that you can make that statement with a straight face?

No. Actually, I was laughing when I wrote it. As I am laughing now. Understand: I am laughing with you, at myself. (Or, if you're being much too serious to laugh about it, I'm laughing for you - as a gift.)

In spite of the fact that you're much more brilliant than I am - and I mean that sincerely - I do have something that you don't: the ability to hold more than one point of view comfortably within myself, and more importantly - the ability to judge which is more applicable in a given situation and to act in a way can be both useful and constructive. That's not hypocrisy, btw, that's pragmatism; the difference between an incisive ideologue and doctrinal cleric such as yourself, and a simple soldier of fortune like me.

I admire you. I wish I had your skills. But I'm satisfied to make whatever use of my own meager talents that I can. :)

Well being of vulnerable intellectual stature (and of questional mental stature) and based on the authority vested in me by being bitter, unable to spell, and well versed in the ways and technicalites of ettiquette. I hear by appoint myself forum police.

I suppose that sounds arrogant, that bit about brilliance. But I'm really kind of sick of people expecting me to 'play dumb'. I'm not. Sorry. If you or someone reading finds that arrogant, so be it.

You would do well to remember that there are many smart people here. And it does you a great disservice to yourself by treating people so harshly.

For someone who claims to be "smart" you don't have an awful lot of respect for others here who are also "smart'.

Perhap I'm not as "smart", based on our comments here and elsewhere, but I'm a lot of fun at parties.

Cienna.... this is what a forum warrior with a main-hand stilletto and an off-hand longsword can do, even against a mace-wielding, uber-armored Paladin of Forum Truth and Justice.

The Paladin - or any other - always focuses on the longsword and never sees the stilletto, until it's too late. The look on the Paladin's face as the blood fountains from the arterial cut beneath the armpit (one chink in the armor only a weapon of subtlety and deception can find) is always tragic: How can this be? What did I miss?

To quote Sean Connery in one of my favorite movies: "Thus endeth the lesson!"

"Except," said the warrior, saluting the Paladin with his bloody stilletto, "that I meant everything I said. I have done this to you, and yet I really do admire you. You are, in all ways, better than I. And I am grateful to have had this opportunity both to learn from you, and to give you something in return."

Sadly, with this post, you convince me of utter insincerity with which the previous one was made. You see, this is the stumbling block of every would-be wisdom dispenser (who isn't really interested in dispensing wisdom, but "lessons";) -- they inevitably ruin their own charade of beneficence by crowing.

Ah well. So much for taking you at your word.

Forum warrior, indeed. (shaking her head as she turns away)

Sincerity and sarcasm are way overrated.

Cienna, I'm sure you're a wonderful human being.

But, I suggest you simply assume we're all total morons that make interesting points now and then and don't really need to be reminded that we are total morons.

It isn't that I think you're morons, it is that you think you're morons. Maybe you should try projecting a little less.

As for reminding, I don't need to remind you because you're so busy reminding yourself that you do so upon the mere suspicion (paranoia) that someone *might* think you're a moron.
