Ah, as Eboni is fond of saying you are just "stirring the shit" I guess.

Maybe you could add "shit stirring" or perhaps "SS-1, 2, 3, etc." to the front of these headers so we know not to take them seriously. I mean you wasted ten or fifteen minutes of my time thinking about your post and trying to respond.

You're learning, Diane. See my previous post here for more. Honestly, don't you deserve better than this? I think so.

As stated in this thread, there are but a small number of people responsible for instigating acrimony here. The rest of us are, if anything, responsible for not exercising better self-control. Yes, I do include myself in that number, and that realisation was what lead me to write the thread linked in the first sentence.

Honestly, after all this time, do you really not know who the instigators are?

If you answer that question truthfully with yourself, the only remaining decisions are:

1) Are you willing to give up whatever perverse enjoyment/entertainment you gain at their expense to see the forums improve?

2) If 'yes' to question #1, are you willing to accept that completely starving the instigators of attention, response, or acknowledgement is the ONLY way to achieve forum improvement?

If 'no', stop here and admit to yourself that as much as it bothers you at times, you ultimately enjoy it more than you disdain it. End the conflict within and just accept that you're as into the mud-flinging and acrimony as those you disdain for doing it.

3) If 'yes' to question #2, are you willing to act upon this conclusion by 'just doing it'?

If 'no', stop here and admit to yourself that as much as it bothers you at times, you ultimately enjoy it more than you disdain it. End the conflict within and just accept that you're as into the mud-flinging and acrimony as those you disdain for doing it.

4) If 'yes' to question #3, do you understand that 'just doing it' means using the ignore feature with resolve and determination; not giving 'second chances' or 'hundreth chances' or 'thousandth chances'... put the folks that you truly believe are responsible for instigating forum fires on ignore and leave them there.

If 'no', stop here and admit to yourself that as much as it bothers you at times, you ultimately enjoy it more than you disdain it. End the conflict within and just accept that you're as into the mud-flinging and acrimony as those you disdain for doing it.

It is one thing to say there is a problem, quite another to do something about it. You have the power to make this place more enjoyable for yourself and others. Use it. Or don't use it. Be honest with yourself.

Completely and totally amazing.

Gawkingly, breath-stoppingly unbelievable.

OK, guys, this is it. The level of absurdity here has reached the point at which my participation in it whatsoever could be indicative only of my own complete and utter insanity.

I'm not going to waste time in this nuthouse any longer. You guys are on your own from here on out.

Enjoy.

Just wanna make sure before I go that nobody missed this, posted by Cienna last night:

"Like, yeah and stuff, because like, understanding how sociology works and why you are constantly either choking on your own foot or stepping in shit is like, so pointless and stuff.

What an inept you are, Cocoa. Only someone as self-absorbed as you could come up with a way to say sociological tenets and their related dynamics are pointless and learning about how they reinforce environments like this is not a worthwhile endeavor.

It is with a general sense of delight that I shove a gag into your dysfunctional mouth and hear you no more. Buh-bye and good luck. Honestly, you need it."

I think Cienna has managed to capture the feelings that myself, and apparently many others have been trying to find the right words to express.

And to add a bit of my own here, I think it's pretty sad when people sit around, claws at the ready, waiting for a newer forum user to have a dispute with someone, so that they can jump into center stage, co-opt the new person's situation, and scream "I told you so!" or "This has got to stop, and it will stop!", at the top of their lungs.

I personally would find it highly insulting if I was a new player, came into the forums, expressed my opinions, possibly getting into a fray with someone, only to have some Dudley-Do-Right co-opt my situation to further their obsessive need to be right.

i deeply apologize for agreeing with the new user.

i recognize, in hindsight, by doing so I was only encouraging a destablizing force in these otherwise peaceful forums.

Ack. There's some heavy I can live without, thank you.

As for Cocoa -- she's not really upset that I'm ignoring her, only that I announced doing so. As per usual, she's more than happy to writhe in public for sympathy and not above using the disgust of others to attempt to garner support for herself. Quaint, really. Let's just say I gave up considering or assigning value to her words the moment I stuffed the gag in her mouth and leave it at that.

This should be in a general forum sticky:

U.Z. and C.S. ....I've been waiting for this match-up for a long time.

In the annals of the forum gladiatorial games, U.Z. and C.S. have interesting similarities of style and equipment. Both carry main-hand Maces of Obnoxious Hyperbole - high on spirit and strength stats, low on agility, with serious fire-damage procs. Both open their offensive moves with a powerful, spinning swing for the head or neck. And both are dual-wielders who follow up with an off-hand thrust to the gut.

But there, the similarities in combat style end. For an off-hand weapon, C.S. carries a Vorpal Axe of Confidence, dipped in Poison of Extreme Self-Aggrandizement. While such a weapon can stun her opponents into making silly and ineffective ripostes, the axe is slow and fairly blunt, without much style or control. More often than not C.S. misses with her off-hand follow-up, and the poison spray merely catches some in the audience, who are deluded by the narcotic into believing that they've just witnessed something "brilliant". But when she hits with both the mace and the axe, things can get messy very quickly, and the crowd loves that.

On the other hand, U.Z. carries a Blazing Rapier of Irony in her off-hand, and its reach and amazing deflection are perfect for her style. It's not a crowd-pleaser, because she wields it so quickly - and many of the forum onlookers simply cannot see what is going on. More often than not, U.Z. will follow her mace swing with a deft step-in-and-thrust, driving the irony clean through her opponent without the crowd (and sometimes the opponent), even noticing.

One should not think that U.Z. has a clear advantage, however. C.S. has surer feet in the shifting sands of the forums general floor, while U.Z. favors the firmer footing on the bedrock of Neualtenberg and off-topic. U.Z. is a solid, consistant performer who never seems to falter, even when things are grim. But C.S. responds well to the cheers of her sycophants, and can be inspired by them to do greater and greater DPS.

There are other gladiators of epic stature in these forums games - N.N., known as "The Bludgeon", whose command of facts and "never-give-up" style has worn down many challengers; b.S., who has brilliantly turned BS into both a formidable weapon and an artform; C.M, not the best at anything, very good at everything, the mambo-crocodile of the balanced attack; and even the druid-gladiator T.T., whose healing powers and ability to play to the crowd make him invulnerable to attack; and others, besides - but the C.S/U.Z. contest promises to be a balanced and classic contest. Popcorn isn't good enough for this show - it's strictly rum, rye, caviar and seaweed crackers.

It would be helpful to the new member. It's not like they can buy a program.

No, but not for reasons of disingenuousness.

Vigilanteism is always bad in my view, and my personal opinion has always been that the forums should have no censorship at all. The one or two things, or general topics we are not allowed to mention have never struck me as anything radically different from the kinds of speech and behaviour that *is* acceptable, so I feel it's easier to just let everyone say what they want.

The childish name calling and rants and attacks are all kind of icky, but banning folks from hurting each others feelings and especially deleting words like "Hitler" as if they carry some special hurting power is equally childish IMO.

There is a current PCish kind of notion that has been greatly in favour over the last 20 years or so that banning people from saying "negative" things about each other and only allowing "positive" comments will eventually lead to better behaviour. All the evidence I have seen indicates that it just leads to more creative ways to abuse each other using austensibly "positive" speech.

There are many folks on the forum (some of the most readily percieved as "abusers" amoung them), that have the wit and the skill to rip people to shreds without violating any rules. While the skill with which this is done is sometimes entertaining, how much better it would be to see a simple fair fight than this kind of "crypto-insulting" banter going on.

Allowing people to just say what they want, (negative or positive), would give hope to those less skilled verbally, and give them a means to respond to the self-styled intellectual elite with stuff like "I know you are, but what am I?" or the tried and true, "F*ck off." This would even the playing field a bit and eliminate some of the one sided persecution that goes on.

Yes some people jumped in on my behalf but a whole lot of people were kicking my ass too.

There were a lot of things going on and I'm reluctant to assess blame other than to myself for getting myself into the muck.

The most likely suspect would be the superior rectus, however the inferior oblique may have also been damaged. Highly speculative.

Which again, calls into question why someone would make such a grand public announcement about ignoring some. My theory is that some folks thrive on the drama such an action creates.

It's like people who make a huge public comment about how their going to "leave a forum" and come back later. The people who really want to leave or ignore will just do so. Quietly.

One thing IS certain. Not all drama queens are quite so obvious in the attention getting tactics. But in the end drama queen is drama queen.

I don't disagree at all.

You weren't the first, nor will you be the last, most likely, to have an experience hoisted as a guide-on by those who are out to prove that the forums are hostile to new players.

I am simply expressing what I have noticed around here since last winter and fall, when the ones who foster this mentality came on the scene. Interestingly and coincidentally, we didn't have these "social class" issues prior to that. It's been a bad spell for these forums what with the fomenting of social stratification. I really hope it will tame back down one of these days.

I understand your point, but along the lines of my belief that pretty much all censorship is wrong, I also believe that throwing away or ignoring information is wrong.

Personally, I just cant put people on ignore, it feels like putting blinders on to me.

If I find something in life to be especially horrible and I feel like looking away, my usual response is to force myself to look right at it, for as long as I can. Especially if the response is an emotional one like hatred or disgust, I think it's important to appreciate *why* I might be disgusted by one thing or another.

On the other hand, that is just my personal philosophy, I can completely understand why people would put others on ignore even though I dont do it myself. It is just a silly forum after all, but I am just OCD enough to apply my rule to this sillyness. :)
