Knowing something about this subject, I'd have to say that the less-than-honorable were among the scientists from the beginning and it's wrong to think of the men in white lab coats as the whitelist and those who came after as crap -- it's not so clear-cut.

As for these efforts by various trades or guilds in SL to police their ranks, well, hmm, maybe, but I'd like to see as many pluralistic variants of this as possible.

What I'd like to avoid is a trade guild that creates standards precisely to blackball the disliked. Or who start fake campaigns to make someone look dishonorable. For example in the land business, I've had to deal with several people claiming I "scam newbies" (they know they can always whip up emotion around the "what about the children" theme) or that I have "a tier-skimming scheme like a pyramid scheme" -- all false statements. They can concoct a purported "standard" that just makes it possible to put the bar before me that they can jump over because they don't require some feature. For example, they might say that all people in groups who have a 10 percent bonus on their tier are charlatans and crooks, so deal with the "good" people who don't have 10 percent bonuses and who offer private islands. See, that's how these smear campaigns work when a "trade" gets together.

I'd hate to see the copyright Nazis be given a free hand to pound to death new people who may not realize that SL isn't in fact like "the rest of the Internet." Elsewhere, you right click and copy with abandon. Here, you are given pause. People who have swiped stuff from auction sites or whatever and made inworld furniture and so on that they "copyright" are the most assidious Nazis when it comes to screaming that some other girl "stole" their design. Honestly, it's so hypocritical.

When I see malls banning someone accused of copying from vending, I have to say: is this fair? Did that person get due process? Can we prove it? Was it some gang of four that in fact drummed somebody's ex-girlfriend out of the corps?

That's why I'd like to see a BBB that has some Linden oversight or tie-in. These corporatist guilds getting going in this fascistic environment have nobody to curb and balance them as we stand now.

Scripterati think it's self-evident what is "good for the gang". But Hiro, this is the bunch that is willing to give a pass on bouncescripts and let residential owners and tenants live in hell just to maintain their "rights".

I wonder if you guys even know the definition of metaverse, it is so misused. Let's clarify this:

The Metaverse: is a phrase coined by Neal Stephenson's science fiction novel Snow Crash (1992) constitutes Stephenson's vision of how a virtual reality-based Internet might evolve in the near future. In the Metaverse, status is a function of two things: access to restricted environments (such as the Black Sun, an exclusive Metaverse club) and technical acumen (often demonstrated by the sophistication of one's avatar). The Metaverse is frequented mainly by the upper and middle classes.

Clearly above definition is not compatible with Prokofy's ideals. I would suggest him and his followers to use the term Prokoverse for the online world refered above

Wow talk about your Feted Inner Core. If this plan was ever put into place we would have a new and more powerful FIC than Prokofy or anyone could ever dream up. This system would be full of fraud and favoritism, and used to fulfill vendettas, and just overall exploited, although the methods may be subtle.


I have always enjoyed SL Hong Kong like approach to business, which is to have minimal supervision and the absolute baseline support for business, and let the businesses flourish. We all know how well the Hong Kong economy has done and the economy in SL. There takes a more India like approach to business, in that it provides enough red tape to make starting a business expensive and difficult and time consuming, while at the same time offering no support. Then you have the American business model, there are regulations but they are minimal and there is a lot of government support for business but loans can be hard to get unless you know the right people. The rich and established are favored, and political contributions (Enron) can buy you a lot of time, and leeway to exploit the rules.


It seems that we are now attempting to move from the hands off Hong Kong method, to some sort of American moderated by boy scouts method. I can not offer my support of any sort of faith in a system like this. SL is still a very small town and in a small town, there are a handful of powerful that have most of the wealth and the power, it has been a bit of a joke with a tad bit of truth until now, but this method will surely make it a reality.Linden involvement is not going to make the process pure. If we can use the arbitrary and inconsistent moderation of the forums as an example of what Linden involvement would be like, my faith is not elevated.

It doesn't matter, I am benefitting. I drive a Blazer though, and my tier is currently at 15$ a month, but it would be considerably more had I not bought a Lifetime Account. It's important to note that my tier has never been static, it has bounced between zero and 75$ since 1.2.
