So you would say we're still in Phase #1 : "Creating content to attract consumers" ?

From: Vincent Cinquetti So you would say we're still in Phase #1 : "Creating content to attract consumers" ? I'd say LL is still developing the platform to allow content creators to create more compelling and involved content. The content that they're developing is already starting to appeal to mainstream audiences but has a long way to go. SL is still niche, but becoming less niche at a steady rate.

I don't think it can be pinned down to one phase.
Although I understand David's point, I think we have both the chicken and the egg simultaneously here, and I think that fact is a driving factor behind the debates that have developed in this thread and others with respect to this issue.
LL has to have both to survive now, and that seems to have caused some controversies.
It's a delicate balance. I don't know how we will ever get beyond this. As long as there are developers and consumers, both of which are "players", and not employees of SL, there may be some resentment in both directions. I hope this is not the case, but what we have seen so far indicates that it may be.

I agree with you Nolan. It's never going to be a matter of phases. It will be a balance that shifts over time. Right now there's more here to appeal to developers than to casual players. Over time that will gradually change and the proportion of casual players will increase until they vastly outnumber developers. The main point I was trying to make was that where we're at now is to be expected and LL is focusing more on retaining developers than consumers, because it's those developers who will cause more and more consumers to find compelling things to do that increases casual player retention. It would be more accurately portrayed as a curve rather than a set of phases.

I'm not sure it can be thought of in stages. They'll always need new content makers, and of many varieties - Merchants to make the immersive details like clothing, vehicles and homes; then the entertainers who run clubs, contests, *ingo, and discussions; and the spurr-of-the-moment activity makers with things like "Space Rocks of Death"; and the big attraction makers like the Bedazzle team. This is an ongoing process. If there is a stage we're in, it's one of pioneering - everyone's feeling thier way across ncertain territory, trying to quickly find the best way to go about things. Which reminds me of an old aphorism: The settlers get the land, the pioneers get the arrows.

SL is bigger then West Virginia in size Population wise, if you look at all the names on the books... then SL has... 160,000 users.

From: Vincent Cinquetti The first half of this thread was Csven vs Pol. ... I skipped past the first argument and now skipping past the second. The "argument" turned out to be a misunderstanding. You might find that some of the points raised are actually relevant to this thread.
