Important question

I have seen that if you happened to have gotten a group IM and remain in that group chat tab that if you go to your friends list and click on a friend to send a private IM that is also in that group chat that it sends your (what you think is a private IM) to the group chat. It's like it defaults to that window that they are in vs opening a private IM window.

I don't know if its a bug or not but know it is quite annoying. Maybe someone can test it a bit further. I have seen it happen a few times. Other than that no clue.

It is possible they have a bug planted to eavesdrop. Its a simple script to write, but it's highly against the rules and is reportable. I suggest a bug sweep.

He knows all the private conversations she has,he doesn't live with her.

That group chat thing has never happened to me,where the message got sent to the group instead of the person-still possible though i guess.

the person is not copying and pasting.

I don't know if she downloaded anything from him that would record her keystrokes,but then how would he know what the person she was talking to said.

he does this alot to her.It just like he knows everything that goes on.

Using LSL? There aren't any functions that I know of that interact with the IM system in any way.. and if there was a way to hack it I'm pretty sure it would've been fixed pretty quickly..

Yes, but there are known devices that listens to other channels.

Maybe someone can answer this - Is IM designated a channel number?

Here is what you need to do.

Copy and past any responses he has to you and when the conversations took place. Sounds like he is incriminating himself by replying to you.

I know the Lindens deeply frown on this type of behavior and would quickly investigate, but they need substantial evidence as to who, how, what, where and when.

So keep notes. Report when you have enough.

Ok let me try and sort this out in my head

1. A Linden wouldn't go on about it being a "little trick" let alone do anything like this so thats out..

2. Theres no way that I know of to purposly "hack" the IM system, and so for the moment, I'm ruling that out..

3. Although the person said this was a "little trick" of theirs chances are it isn't a peice of master scripting or a bug


I think the chances are you friend isn't being straight with you and is either copying him stuff or telling him..

Seems like you could be right,but i don't know why she would tell him something that would make this person angry.

How do you "know" all these things about your friend? Do you know her in RL?

Why is she telling you about her jealous stalker boyfriend and her flirtations? Do you tend towards saving needy women? Could she be role playing the victim of a stalker for the drama of it all?

Which of the possible alt scenarios rule out? There is more than one possiblities you know.

Why do people do what they do?

Response to similar behavior engaged in by him. Having fun at your expense. Multiple personality disorder. Who the hell knows.

Has the person ever visited her in RL? Because if he had he could have installed a spyware program on her computer that would make it possible for him to see everything that goes on with her computer from another internet site. It might even be possible if he hadn't visited her and had hacked into her computer.

Looking at the entire list you've posted, the final conclusion is simple: Spy software.

Have her run an anti-virus. Its time for a little system cleanup.

Alternativly, you can have her start sending/receiving false data to lead him on. You could use the bugs he planted against him. Thats the fun part.

Consider the possibility that this person is actually playing two characters and is having a bit of fun at your expense. What you are describing is very similar to an experience I had early in my life here. Being played is a difficult thing to accept and deal with, but I am afraid it happens here sometimes. I hope this isn't happening to you ... just telling you to be careful and skeptical. Something's fishy here and Occam's razor tells me to look for the simplest explanation first.

I'm really lost on this one. My reading comprehension must be sinking fast,

Nevertheless, three possibilities:

1) Alt messing with your head.
2) Keylogging software on your friend's PC.
3) An elaborate hoax by your "friend" to garner sympathy.

As I see it, there are only two possibilities here:

1. The whole thing is a hoax. This is what I think to be the most likely explanation.

2. The person you were chatting with has a Trojan or other such malware on her machine that allows this other person to see what she is doing. There are many programs out there that allow a person to spy on another's computer activity in real time, just as if he or she were sitting right at the keyboard. I was hit with one of those about 5 years ago. It wasn't fun.

Well she ran a anti-virus,and supposedly it came up with nothing,but recently someone broke into her account and deleted everything.If she wanted to ignore me in SL she would of muted me,but i can still message her,but she is afraid of what might happen if i do.


Like you guys i am baffled,don't know whats going on...I think she just humored me and didn't run an anti virus

People mess around a lot in SL.. Annonimity gives people the idea to do some weird stuff..
