Just wanted to post this, for a warning to all!!! I had (notice the HAD) and 8608M lot in Awa, I had my small stores there (The Lion's Square) Saturday morning, I decided I wanted to rebuild it. So I returned all my objects. While my screen was full of returning objects (lol won't do that again) a friend IM'd me, she had some items on my lot. I told her I was just going to rebuild. Someone flew up to me and asked me about buying the lot. I told him it wasn't for sale just gonna rebuild. A few seconds later, I was getting ready to put my first prim out, boom, the lot was no longer mine. Someone bought it for zero Lindens!. Now maybe during the returning I accidently hit the for sale radio button, (don't think I was even near that section). Anyway, I contacted a Linden, they tried to IM the guy that bought it, as well did I, They said they got it fair and square. So I paid 89K for it (just before land prices dropped.......slaps head) and someone got it for free. Not only that, they turned right around and sold it. This all happened with in MAYBE 5 mins. Undoubtably the guy bought it from a distance, because I never saw anyone else around, (it wasn't the guy that came up to me and asked) Now today I got a message from the new owner, telling me they would sell my lot back to me for 40K. The Linden that was trying to help, said she couldn't get into any database and to send and email to Support, which I did, with no response as of yet.
From what I understand, the person probably used some kind of Land finder script. Something I haven't heard about. Anyway, if I would have thought that kind of thing was out there, I would have put a price in my For Sale section of like 999,999, just incase it ever happens again. maybe this is something everyone needs to do!!!!!! Cause like I said, my land was mine one sec, and not mine the next. So please EVERYONE!! go into your land and set the forsale to 999,999!!

Welcome to SL.

Tier to zero - you'll be happier. I'm sorry SL is full of jerks, but things like this happen, especially since land scanning never truly went away.

Don't forget to dwell at a club, someone has to benefit from your sorrow.

Oh my... Ihope they can reolve this before it changes hands to many times..

Maybe you could out the ass who did this and we could all send him hate mail.

If I had bought something like that and the person said it was a mistake I would have returned it no problem.

This guy is a POS.

THIS is why a confirm prompt is 100% necessary. Regardless of the flip flopping going on with respect to the real value of L$ we all know what this person was doing. Now the owner is out 8k+plus m2 and its valuebecause of a simple mistake, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Lindens PLEASE review this and correct it.

When I acquire land, I set it for sale to myself, and then uncheck the For Sale box. That way, if I accidentally check that box in the future, it won't matter.

I think a cooling-off period on land sales would be in order. Maybe a day, or half a day, or even a few hours. It would take care of this kind of thing pretty well I think.

Ya, there definately needs to be some confirm prompts added in a few places. Toggleable of course, but definately necessary.

yea i think you need to say who did it.. there isnt a small chance that someone here knows who did it and might be able to reason with him.

Lion, I have talked to you before and I know you to be an Honest person.

This is unfortunate that has happend and you need to Hound LL and Customer Support till you get some satisfaction.

This in essence is out right Thievery and shouldnt be condoned by anyone.

Records prove the land was yours and should show that via sequence of events accidents happen. The individual that stated they bought it fair and Square in my personal Opinion needs to be Hung out to dry as a Public Example Period. Not hung out by a Mob but once Researched by LL should be announced by LL. But thats my opinion.

Anyway Im sorry for your loss and I wish you the best in your next location. Your mens clothes rock dude and talk to you latters.

There's absolutely NO REASON to have a "Release Land" button. It's dangerously obsolete and costs people lots of real money when they accidentally click that instead of "Return Objects" or something.

LL will not announce this sort of thing, just like every other game company out there they keep these kinds of things prvate as far as who, and what.

But that doesnt mean that you cant say who.

If the guy had been something other than a complete ass I wouldnt say to do this, but he obviously has no regard for anyone but himself, so deserves none from you.

lion please post here when the lindens either return your land to you or tell you that they won't. i'd ask you to post the name of the new owner but that would only get you in trouble.

Actually Robin posted a few weeks back that naming names is ok so long as it's not in the form of a personal attack.

I think that without a warning messsage when that option is invoked - it is a gigantic BUG in the system. Linden Labs should be responsible for all unauthorized sales that occurred by scalliwaggery!

Untill a proper system is put in place, it should be made more difficult somehow to release land so easy accidents like this don't happen.

Somehow the "for sale" bit was set on your land but a proper price was not set. It isn't clear from your story whether the person who bought it was the one who first approached you, or was someone else who also detected your land for sale very cheap.

Although technically the land was "for sale" for only $L 0, it was disingenuous of the person to purchase the land off of you for such a rip-off price. I'm going to dig into the logs and find the person and give them a lecture. I'm not sure what can be done (under LL policy) to repair your loss but I'll look into it.

Some sort of option to agree to the sale might not be bad. That way you could choose who cant buy it in a way.

The previous tips on jacking the price up and setting the buyer to yourself are really good ideas though.

mole, i see no reason that people shouldn't reiterate a theme with their own post.

there is no land for sale in awa at the moment so i'll trust andrew /clap /cheer to dig through the log and handle the fiend.

is it a personal attack for me to call the worthless ass a "fiend" when i have no idea who they are?

edited to add that i found 8096sm in the NE corder set for sale to lion for 40kL. now i'm not posting any names of course and i fully retract the term fiend so that i don't get banned or anything.

Yay, Andrew! :::adding Andrew to my "Lindens We Have a Crush On" list:::

Please let us know how this turns out. This is horrible, and I hope that Andrew will be able to work it out.

I'm not sure what Andrew's problem is in not immediately restoring the land to you, others have made this same mistake and their land was returned to them.

LL, you set the precedent when you returned land to other players under the same set of circumstances as this. There's no reason to make this any more dramatic then it has already become.

Also, LL, you might consider turning off any Land Selling until you fix this issue. I understand that you are busy with a thousand other things, but I think you should consider this issue a priority (It has happened more then once) and add some authentication code into the For Sale module. When you have done that, this problem goes away, and you never have to worry about it again.

Just my 2 cents.
