So I put it to you, oh great SL forumites. What made you choose your first and last names?
As for me: My first name is actually my first name. Ben. Simple, easy to remember.

In Ahern today, I asked Mick Linden if there were statistics on percentage of population to certain last names. I find that my last name, Kerensky, is a LOT less common than other names, while I know quite a few people who have adopted the last name, "Thetan" and, "Duck." I think I've only met two other people who have the same last name as I.

Well, I am an egyptology student and I am fascinated by its language and religion, and Sekhmet is one of my favorite Goddessses and it translates to Powerful One. Shang just cause alliteration rocks.

As for Thetan and Duck, they seem to be popular with the silly hats only crowd (some or all of whom might be SA-goons). They tend to behave a bit weirdly, seemingly on purpose.

Another fan of repeated sounds here.
Torley is my real name (part of it out of 100+ letters, anyway), and Torgeson 'cuz I dig the extended alliteration. So TT for short, or (Tor)^2. I think "Thetan" is derived from Scientology, and "Duck" just makes for some very good puns? ![]() _____________________

Richard is RL first name.
Pinkerton was the only name on offer I liked at all. It also happens to be the name of my favourite album by the popular beat combo, Weezer. |

(Because Russian names are sexy.)
And I added an extra 'i' to the end because it made the otherwise male name sound cuter. .... You know. Like "kawaii". ...... :D _____________________

"Loethe D'Oloth" was my first guild on Everquest. The guild leader was a Drow language geek and he used to speak it IRL, and the name has something to do with death & destruction, I think. I was most upset that I couldn't choose my own last name in SL. So Rockwell was just chosen at random out of the handfull of names i found acceptable.

Chose mine cause Queenie is my DJ name and the last name was kind of a joke and I didn't expect to stay after the free trial was up.....I think I probably have the most egotistical sounding name in SL

I picked Alexis because I like the name generally, and:
- I like many of the associations of the etymological root lex- (like law, linguistics, and logic; see http://www.bartleby.com/61/roots/IE267.html) - It is used as both a male and (more commonly) female name, which appeals to me because I'm male but I have a somewhat more female gender identity. Heiden is similar to my RL last name, and I was surprised to see anything similar on such a short list, so I picked it. Also, the etymological root of Heiden means "Forest, uncultivated land" (heath) and it's related to the word heathen (originally from “one inhabiting uncultivated land”) so it forms an interesting contrast with the associations of Alexis. |

Liona is one of my common personas, both online in MU*s, IRC, and forums, and offline in roleplaying. Unfortunately theu didn't have my persona's actucl last name, Ariel... So I picked Clio. I like the idea of being descended from a Muse.
