Rose - after my Great Grandmother (a wild but kind hearted woman)

Karuna - because it's sanskrit for Healer. I'm very good with ailing plants and animals.

How I got my name
03-31-2005 14:18
Well Turnbull was the last name of a history Professor I really admired in college. He told the class he would give a short version of amer history, then do the second half of Nat Amer history. If no one liked that, they could find another class. I admired him for the guts. He was Nat Amer. himself and I learned alot about my own background being of Nat Amer. decent.
Kit comes from an old personna. And I like the name.

ZsuZsanna was the name of a female Vamp in a book series I read. Raven just seemed to go along with it.

My actual Chinese name is Meilian ( ?¿¡´ -- don't know if the Unicode or whatever will transfer; means "beautiful lotus";). Shang was one of the few Chinese surnames available and is also the name of an ancient dynasty. Ironically enough the avatar started looking Japanese as I was tinkering around. Had I forseen that I would have settled on a more Japanese name.

I am very interested in Indian culture and the Hindu religion. I saw the last name Hare and decided to make a joke ( I didn't think I would continue to play the game, neither did my friend Grunt Yaffle when he picked his name LOL)

Hare in sanskrit is pronounced Hah-ree. You may have heard the mantra "Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna," etc. many Krishna devotees spell the gods name Krsna in English because the pronunciation of the 's' makes an 'i' unneccesary.

I just did it backward. Instead of Hare Krsna, I named myself Krsna Hare. So for all of you out there that see me running around.. my name is pronounced Krishna Hahree, not krzna hare

I for one got a chuckle out of your name when I first saw it, Krsna :)

And actually it's the Sanskrt pronunciation of the 'r' that makes the 'i' unnecessary in transliteration. Too bad you can't do the little dot on the s (or better yet write it in Devinagari).

Namaste :D

I'm a history geek (among other things).

Alienor is the olde French version of Eleanor (the modern version being Eléonore, random trivia) - it was the name of Alienor/Eleanor of Aquitaine, queen of France and of England in the 12th century. She is my favorite historical figure, her story is fascinating. Besides, I really like the name.

Lumière means light in French (the noun, not the adjective). I liked the word, and how it sounded associated with my chosen first name.

Well I have been known as Daemona in There for well over two years now, and since I came to SL to specifically hang with old friends from There, I wanted name recognition. As for Vox, well Gravano was not available, as that has always been my RP last name lol, after Sammy "The Bull" Gravano.

My first name actually means Red as I learned from my host nations teacher in Iceland (and butchered it, since the keyboard doesn't have the correct lettering for it). It's pronounciation.. raowth, if I remember correctly.

As for Fox, well, I happen to just like the animal.

From: Ben Kerensky
In Ahern today, I asked Mick Linden if there were statistics on percentage of population to certain last names. I find that my last name, Kerensky, is a LOT less common than other names, while I know quite a few people who have adopted the last name, "Thetan" and, "Duck." I think I've only met two other people who have the same last name as I.

So I put it to you, oh great SL forumites. What made you choose your first and last names?

As for me: My first name is actually my first name. Ben. Simple, easy to remember. :P My last name stems from the fact that I played way too much Mechwarrior/Battletech back in the day.

lol, they're uncommon.

Nergal because I'd just read David Weber's 'Heirs of Empire' books, and liked the Sumerian deity names that he was sprinkling around. I'm also mildly synaesthetic, so I see shapes in the way words sound -- and if you ignore what the original Nergal's a deity of, the name-sound has a pleasing shape to it. Sort of like the assertion that someone referred to in this thread or the other name thread regarding the way Tolkien thought the words 'cellar door' sounded.

Fallingbridge, again, because I liked the way the name-sound looked. And the mental image of a falling bridge was too interesting for me to pass up.

(And, dude. SL looks *totally* different from the last time I wandered through... hi to those who might remember me.)

Why I chose my name
04-01-2005 07:43
"Euterpe" is a muse. Because I am interested in both art and literature, I felt that choosing the name of a muse would be appropriate. "Euterpe" is not the easiest to pronounce and does not roll off the tongue like other names (perhaps that is why I am the only AV with this first name).

I chose "Roo" becuase I truly enjoyed the "Tao of Pooh" and the "Te of Piglet" by Benjamin Hoff.

In a friend's most memorable, 18 year long, AD&D campaign, I played a Viking War-Priest right up to level 20 (a lot harder under the old rules, let me tell you!)

His name was Stig Olaf Hansson Jarlson Fenrison Grudnison. As soon as I saw the Olafson name, I knew I'd be Stig.

How many of you who took the name "Kerensky" know who this was in Russian history, and what the significance of his role was?

Well, I chose 'Lament' because it was the only last name that seemed to suit my original vision of my 'Cross' character (she doesn't normally have a last name). Of course, once I got in-world, all the roleplaying went right out the window, and Cross is basically my personal avatar. Oh well. :)

Hey Torley! I wanna know what the other 94+ letters in your name are. :D
