How long did it take to become hooked?

I took me two years to get hooked to Second Life. In 2003 a network broadcaster brought me into this game. My first friends online were in TSO, then There.com. But i didnt like SL. I thought it was laggy . . unpopulated . . confusing and with no obvious goal other than to fly around lookin at stuff other people made. People were friendly enough. I just didnt get it. My avatar was named Stella Satyr back then and Aimee Weber was one of the first people i met. I didnt stay tho. And 3 other friends attempted to bring me into Second Life on three different occassions after that. I stood by my belief that Second Life just wasnt interesting to me at all. Then last year, Uri from the Second Life Herald started going on and on about "why arent you in Second Life . . dont you know they have sex balls?" LOL j/k but its was something along those lines and hey thats a reflection on me not him ok cuz at the time i was muckin around in a hardcore beta adult game named Sociolotron. Anyway i got into an arguement with a GM and left that game and came back to Second Life one last time . . I been here ever since. Im glad i didnt give up on Second Life. And even tho some oldtimers seem disillusioned about how the game has changed I m so impressed by the creativity inside this world you may hafta drag me from SL kicking an screaming

Hooked long before I got in.

As banal as it sounds, the Matrix movie was my turning point. It really hit home the idea that our minds are only limit as to what we can achieve. SL seems to embody that.. at least for me.

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

1st day Coordinate my movements
2nd day to get completely lost inworld
3rd day completely hooked

I immediately changed my one off $9.95 subscription to an annual up front.
Any chance of a lifetime membership rate? :-)

My avatar has now developed a character all of her own and keeps spending all the L$ I transfer into the game. I think she spends most of it when I am slumped asleep over my keyboard, and I now have RL dreams where I am in a room and the walls keep moving and texture keeps changing.

HELP!

I must have made a great impression! Was it my default skin that scared you off? :D

I never answered my own question. I think SL came on like alchoholism. I just did it casually and never really thought I was hooked at all. That is until I had to go visit my family for a few days around Easter. Then I started getting the shakes :D

On reflection I would say it only took a day before I was hooked. I got my butterfly wings on day one and I was thrilled by them. It was all over from that point on.
