All of my friends came to second life before I did, so in order to hang out with them, knew I had to play 2nd life

I was hooked by Uru Online. When it closed I was desperate to find a replacement. Fortunately on one of the Uru forums someone mentioned SL and as soon as I grasped what it was the sun was shining again.
Of course finding a good partner proved to be the best part of being here in SL! ![]() |

I was actually looking for software to setup a VR chatroom of sorts on my website...
Wow... I really don't think I will ever find enything as creative as this anywhere else. It was just, so GREAT to be able to build something in just a matter of minutes... |

My 2nd day. On the 2nd day, I finally found my way off the island, and found the Welcome Area. I saw my first SL sunset, and that "night" I took a basic building class. At that point, I saw SL's potential. I had to come back.

I recently refound this picture which I thought I'd lost. For a few days when I joined I kept going to the newbie building area and working on things there. One of the things I built was a castle tower from a model I'd done in Max. At some point I looked out the window of the tower and saw the moon. It was cool.

About three days of flying around oohing and ahhing at some of the builds. Now I'm very hooked because of my friends.

I was pseudohooked to SL within about a week.... I was playing just because of the guy I'd met here. It wasn't SL that was doing it for me.
Getting hooked on SL itself took me months. I wasn't hooked until I found something I was reasonably good at, and for me, that took a while. |

Several days I think, I actually signed up full time before the end of the trial.
I've always been intensely fascinated by the concepts surrounding virtual worlds, and their exploration, and it's a combination of that and a certain kind of escapism for me that has hooked me. Plus, it's a way of meeting a variety of interesting people, or just indulging myself in whatever I choose. Anything goes ! I'd never been in an MMO world before so it was kind of daunting, there being real people here. I'd just done Myst stuff and offline RPGs before, so no human interaction. This was so different... After some mixed experiences in the first few days, I sat on the southern peak of the long island straddling Fame/Balance sims, quietly watching a moody sunset, musing over how I felt in this form, in this strange new world, and that was when I decided to stay. I've been very much hooked since last July, though the 'addiction' has been fading for me a little just lately, for a variety of reasons. This is probably a good thing. Balance. But even when I get bored, just flying around and exploring always leads to new things ![]() I've just recently started playing World of Warcraft and I'm enjoying that too, as a different kind of fun, though it entirely lacks the social warmth of SL. WoW is a game, whereas this place is more like an alternate lifestyle to me ![]() |

I 'graduated' from trial on the first day, because I knew I'd want to stay. I bought a life account within about a month.
And just today I sold up everything, and I just have to clear up some crap and then I leave. So about a day to get hooked, and about 18 or so months, several appalling point releases and no customer support to get unhooked ![]() |

I was so enthralled with the builds I saw when I left Orientation Island, that I parked myself in the Ivory Tower of Primitives the 2nd or 3rd day in SL for hours. Second Life is still, after 10 months, like a box of new crayons for me.

How long after your first moment in SL did it take before you were "hooked?" By hooked, I mean deciding that SL is more than something you will just "try out" for a little while. My only complaint is that there should have been a selection for "a couple of minutes" ![]() _____________________

I would say before I started. I'm not a gamer -- instead, I found out about this when Benchmark made their investment -- but started reading about it and loved the concepts behind it. I was hooked by LL's design philosophy.
Then I logged in, stumbled around like a noob, and started to wonder -- is this place all ugly malls with empty booths and blaring "for rent" signs? My interest almost flagged. Then I happily stumbled upon some great builds and some great people... and that's all she wrote. like ingrid says, it's like a new box of crayons. I haven't scratched the surface of what I want to create in this place. |

I'm not really a computer person, for relaxation and fun that is, I'm a scientist... Lucky for me I have a pretty state of the art windows workstation, so my first experience of SL was absolutely amazing.
To begin with I started feeling a bit 'nice eye candy, but what's the *point*?' Then I started meeting people... Well, that was the turning point for me, sitting together in front of an ice palace looking at the moon listening to romantic music. Yes! 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Five weeks later I own land, I'm doing business and I have a partner. Life is strange isn't it? |

At first I thought it was SL interferring with my RL. But now, I understand that it's RL interferring with my SL.

I think I was lured here by Aimee's evil wiles if I remember correctly....
I'd never played an online game or done an online thing before. In three days I was hooked. _____________________

I was actually hooked before I started. After watching a family member play for about a week, i decided I just had to get my own account. 10 months later and i'm still here and have no intentions of leaving. Not anytime soon anyways lol.

I was hooked before I even started.
I first saw clips of Second Life on a show called Portal (which told a story using characters within several MMOGs), which aired on a cable channel called G4. Interested, I noticed that a link for the SL website was placed on the G4 forums, I checked the SL site out, signed up for the Beta, and Voila! I'm here in SL for over 2 years. Glad to share my little story with you. Bye bye for now, Alexis |

About 20 minutes. Once I figured out how to fly around, I stumbled upon a classic build, "Toilet Guy". I knew at that moment, I was home. ![]() LOL My sentiments exactly. _____________________

Just a couple of days, then it was in my blood!
I spent so much time online those first few days, I lost weight coz I was not eating, and even when I did get some sleep it was to dream about flying around SL. Sheesh, I was one sad SL junkie. Calmer now, though still spending far too much time in SL - when I can get in the blasted place! |
