In this post Jeska annouced the grand prize for Sunday's Log-a-thon will be a SL Lifetime Membership. Jeska specifically identifies this membership as Charter Member. This rehashes an old question. Why do some lifetime members have the description "Charter Member" in the account type field of their profiles, and other lifers have the account type "resident?" This question applies to us lifers who dished out the $225. during the initial run and not to any who may have won a lifetime account after they were eliminated at the close of 2003. I remember the lifetime account was described as including the description Charter Member, but who really got that tag in their profile and how?

I think Charter Member is only for those that purchased it when it was US$159, while beta was still going.

Yeah, I saw the same post and figured it was just an simple error on Jeska's part or that they forgot to tag all lifers as charter. This has been a big problem for me as the following typical in-game dialog shows: Me: hey baby, ever partner with a charter member? *leer* Her: Your profile doesn't say charter, get lost creep! Me: *stammering as she walks away* No... really, I am!

There was a discount period where Beta members could get the lifer account for $159 as a ty for participating in testing and I've heard that those are the accounts with 'charter member' as the title. But I've also heard of people that bought at full rate in December 2003 as the last lifer accounts were sold (they were always limited, though I never heard an actual number mentioned) also getting the charter title. To this end there was once a Linden post explaining that they should all show as charter but errors were made and it seems that our account details can never be altered. This also explains the erronious join dates that some early members have. ex, Jan 1970 is a common one.

Ok. I'm not a FIC Lifer, but I had to read this thread. Curiosity got the better of me! I'm sorry!! And, just to add to what others have said, here is what Jeska stated about charter members in the upcoming Log-A-Thon event announcement: From: Jeska Linden The Lifetime (Charter Member) Account was only available during Second Life’s initial launch and cost USD$225. The special account includes a permanent L$500/week stipend and land allocation of 4096m2.
/3/5a/55345/1.htmlNot sure if that helps any.

You mean despite my lifetime membership, my 'resident' designation means I am not Feted?

From: James Miller I think Charter Member is only for those that purchased it when it was US$159, while beta was still going. Yup that it, James is correct. Thats why mine says it at least. There is also another thread that asks Jeska about this. Its by Lynnix Muse. Asking what does the Lifetimer does if they win and all ready obviously have a lifetime account. We can neither sell it, give it away or keep it. I might suggest they change this prize to a choice between a few things. One time Poser 5 was given as a prize. edited to add link to thread /invalid_link.html

I too, purchased my Lifetime Membership
07-29-2005 09:22
I paid $225 and I am noted as a resident.
I posted in a previous thread about this when the same question came up. Never saw a Linden response.

From: Nyna Slate Its by Lynix Muse. Asking what does the Lifetimer do if they win and all ready obviously have a lifetime account. We can neither sell it, give it away or keep it.
The rules in the announcement, under number 18, state that it *can* be given away, just not sold: From: Jeska Linden There will be no substitutions. In the event the winner already owns a lifetime account, they may transfer it to another Resident, however the winner may not sell a lifetime account.
/3/5a/55345/1.htmlAnd Robin's response to Lynnix was: From: Robin Linden Our policy has been that lifetime accounts can't be sold, which is the reasoning behind the rule. If you did win and wanted to create a new account with a new av, you could do that, or you could give the account away.
/invalid_link.htmlSo it does appear they can at least be given away (or used with a new account). Personally I would rather see another prize awarded if the winner already has a lifetime account, and then have the next person drawn win the lifetime prize. Especially since even if they say you cannot sell it, there is nothing to keep someone working a deal with US$ without anyone ever having to know.

None of this answers the question I truly want to know...
Will the winner of the Lifetime Membership be given FIC status? And what happens when you gain FIC status? Is there a pinning ceremony?

To further complicate it, I know some people who bought the lifetime account post-beta and are listed as Charter. I have a lifetime that I bought right before 1.2 was announced, and I am listed as Resident.

From: Buster Peel Oh gawd, wait till he-who-shant-be-named finds out about this! Oh he was fully aware of it - he would often rant that the FIC leverage their free 4096m tier to shocking advantage over those who don't have it. He was also outraged that everyone that had a premium pre-1.2 gets 1024m of tier included instead of 512.

I think the only way to gain FIC see status is to have seen the asset server in person. Miraculaous appearances of the asset server do not count. Although those who have benefitted from asset server miracles might be beatified, thay are not yet FIC.

If you already have a lifetime account, and you win it, couldn't you just create another account, and apply it to that? Seems like that would be most fair. The person who wins it should be able to use it somehow, even if they already have a lifetime account. coco

I have a lifetime account, but I am only listed as a "Resident".... There goes my FIC status...
So I guess I can be taken off the FIC hit list then...

07-29-2005 11:37
From: Catherine Omega I paid $159 and have a status of "Resident". I also have a forum account creation date of December 31st, 1969. Exactly! The designation is all over the place. I do remember when I bought the lifetime membership that there was supposed to be a Charter member designation along with it. Some got it and others did not. FIC UNITE! MAN YOUR FORCES! DEMAND CHARTER DESIGNATION FOR ALL YEAR 1 2003 LIFERS!
