Although I am another of the 'tp then fly straight off' school of shoppers, may I just add one thought. Often, if the shop I am seeking is a very long distance from the tp (think the new continent, heh) - well, I might just give up. If I am just casually shopping, this is sometimes the case. So there may well be some strategic benefit in placing a shop nearer to a tp than further. Of course, if it is a special shop, selling something I really want - heh, well then distance is no object

From: musicteacher Rampal Don't you just love the telehubs in some of the newer areas that have roofs over them that you hit even though they have not yet rezzed fully? (sarcasm meant) LOL U beat me to it.

I try to sail to places unless I'm in a hurry. Flying is nice. I like to feel I've traveled a distance, so teleports can be too quick for me. On the other hand, there are a few places I go to frequently, and it is less fun to travel to those. On the other other hand, by traveling more slowly I have a sense of the locations of places in relationship to each other, and many people don't have that at all, and, perhaps, don't want it.

But part of the point of a telehub is not what you do as you leave it, but how you arrive at your destination, flying towards it through an "external world". So each outside design matters, and we have architecture, and a carfully crafted external world. If we had p2ptp, it could work straight into the interior of the destination building. Which would need no exterior appearance, since no visitor need see it. Almost every destination would have a featureless box as an exterior, and probably no doorway to the outside at all, to stop you wandering. You soon wouldn't want to look outside, at all those other grey boxes, anyway. Think what this would destroy. The whole external world which gives us our sense of place and geography, with all its architecture, good and bad. All that would be left would be a set of 3-d webpages. /130/d6/62069/1.html#post647466

i will refer you to my comments in the other thread. but first i like to say unless you have owned/ rented space at a telehub you would have no clue how well or bad people do at thees locations. i personally like the hub as i say in the other thread i try and make my shops as appealing as possible for the average shopper. and one other point that needs to be pointed out here. your average user does not read the forums. its my experience that people who read and especially those who post to the forums are doing so because they have something to gripe about. people who don't have much to complain about usually avoid the fourms and go about there business. and the forums being as they are in my opinion any polls or comments (including my own ) made in the fourms are not representative of the community as a whole. /108/1.htmlplease feel free to flame me as you wish i am an adult and can handel it.

hmmm....tis a shame there is not some type of all inclusive in-world polling option, though just like the group votes it would probably be abused and annoy people. I do realize that this poll in no way represents the whole of SL. I also do realize that I do not truly understand the value of telehub land, which is why I started the other topic. I want to understand it's value so that if other means are taken to stop in-world inflation, such as cutting stipends, I will understand why a feature like p2ptp for a fee wasn't explored first. Robin Linden suggested that the members would be the best source to get this information as I had already figured. I'm really not trying to start a flame war, I just want to know that there really is higher value in hub land and that it's not just a myth projected to the public by land dealers.

From: Zapoteth Zaius My theory is that its new players that either get stuck in telehub malls or something catches their eye. And that very few new players read the forums, and therefore voted on this poll.. Thats my theory anyway.. Well, I do read the forums, only because I know that usually that is where anyone is going to learn the most about everything to do with their new world. I do acknowledge though, that many 'players' on online gaming sites do not check out the forums, or any other info at their disposal. It is amazing how many discussions you can have just by bringing up something you read on the forums..........'did you know?' I voted as well, hoping that perhaps the telehub locations may be improved in the future; they are very confusing, and I learned early on to just go as high as possible to escape to my destination. *grin*. Just two cents from a 'newbie' (June).
