http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/FutureTech/story?id=1019818&page=1"Some, like Aimee Weber, have opened virtual fashion boutiques where they sell their own line of personally designed virtual clothing for the world's currency, called "Linden dollars." Again? Isn't there enough advertisement for her in almost every news that comes about SL? Nothing against Aimee, I like her, I like her creations, nothing personal. But I think Lindens should stop the favoritism on this at this point when there are so many amazingly talented designers and builders in SL. Either don't mention name (in fact in this case it adds nothing to the story) or pick someone different everytime. I think it's not fair otherwise.

If I had to guess, I'd have to say that the Lindens have a rolodex of clean-record content producers' names that they trot out whenever the press comes knocking. Aimee, Cubey, etc. are always featured because a) they don't cause controversy, and b) make a ton of sweet stuff. LF

Aye. What're they going to do, send out a smalltime property renter with a bad discipline record who is going to whine and whine about the FIC keeping him down and that SL is filled with mean and nasty people?
Aimee is decent and wildly successful, so she's a great candidate to give to the news people.

They were going to use my name, then they realized that Lash Xevious sounds too porny and scary. Like I use a whip and a crowbar or something. Go figure.

plus she's a hottie in RL in case they want to interview her.
Always good to have eye candy representing you .. don't want ABC's viewers to think we're all just nerdy dorks..

If there was such a rolodex, I'd say it was time for updating, 'cause there are now more people who fit that no-controversy, non-knob tallented designer mold. However, I think Aimee gets noticed becasue Aimee's the kind of person who gets noticed. Read her posts. They're intelligent, witty, and eloquent. She has a manner that's pleasant without ever feeling smarmy. She's one to tease in that way nearly everyone enjoys and is playful. There ya go. She's the popular chick, only without the snotty entourage. I know any company would love to be represented by someone like Aimee. If LL "trots her out" for things like this, who could blame them? Thing is, they don't even need to, she'd get noticed by anyone doing a cursory look for in-world tallent. All just my opinion of course.

John Prototype was one of the first people I met here in SL. We had a fascinating talk about synchronous/asynchronous communication. What a thrill for a rank n00b!
I am so glad that his work continues and that it is getting attention.

You know, reguarding the idea that some people in SL get far more than thier share of attention: If there was such a rolodex as snowcrash suggested, I'd say it was time for updating, 'cause there are now more people who fit that no-controversy, non-knob tallented designer mold. However, I think Aimee gets noticed becasue Aimee's the kind of person who gets noticed. Read her posts. They're intelligent, witty, and eloquent. They probably didn't interview anyone and just used information from the website. If you read that article it looks like it was written in about 10 minutes. I don't understand why this stuff gets peoples knickers in a knot.

No clearly it was not written in 10 minutes. In fact I really liked this article, the interview with Lester and teen griders was well done. However, there was no interview or specific mention of what Aimee does, if you look at the sentence I quoted again there was absolutely no need to cite anyone in that sentence and for people who don't know anything about SL, it would not make a difference "Some, 100s of people like X, Y, Z, have opened virtual fashion boutiques..." Again, if as I assumed (I may be wrong) LL inserted that specific name in that sentence, this in my opinion was favoritism on their part as it did not add anything to the story or there was no specific interview. This didn't get anything I have in a knot, I found this unfair and simply expressed my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think the writer too the easy way out. It just seems silly that Aimee keeps taking the heat for things that are more than likely out of her control. Aimee Weber is the Martha Stewart of Second Life, a horrible victim of her own success. FREE AIMEE WEBER!!!

My heat was on Lindens not to Aimee, read carefully again my original post please. Again, I repeat if it was Lindens who suggested to insert a name in that sentence, it was unfair and unprofessional in my opinion.

Most likely the reporter had already heard of Aimee or LL referred her as a good person to interview. One important thing to keep in mind is that LL doesn't decide who to refer to a reporter based on a desire for fairness or to stroke anyone's ego. They only care about promoting their world. These articles are meant to attract new people. Existing members aren't the target audience.

Maybe Linden Lab should be making announcements every time someone wants to do a news bit on SL, soliciting bids for who gets to appear. This obvious favoritism makes Prokofy more right than he ever knew!

Aimee can I pack a party bag?
08-11-2005 22:03
Aimee, not lets not be hasty- Don't leave for that stay in the "countryhouse" without proper prep
Make sure you pack all the necessary items for a stay in the "womens" party place...
1. Gardening gloves 2. Soap on a rope (scented of course) 3. Linen Napkins 4. Personalized Hankies - Don't want to be stuck with messy tissues do we? 5. Lots of those shiny Lindens for the Vending machines 6. A BIG supply of PercoXXX and VicoXXX disguised as Midol to get thru it all
Please stop by and I will pack you a lovely monogrammed "Channel" bag donated by al us girls at Spellbound to ease your way... Of course, we might be in the next ummm, room
Hugs !
