I wish LL would just add a "buy as gift" option. Just like they have in SLEXCHANGE (richie you can just use slexchange.. though fair warning - whatever you'll buy willow - SHE ALREADY HAS!!)

oh I'll think of something ;)

Saying that, whatever the perms are, doesn't stop me buying stuff I want.

I dare say that there is little that could stand in the way of you buying the stuff that you want. Nearly taking down the asset server with the weight of your inventory certainly didn't phase you. Neither does having more skins than that creepy guy from the Silence of the Lambs who talks about lotion.

I only need the clothes to be modifiable if for example, I buy it and the dress is too red and I want to tone down that red by shading it a light grey or something. Skirts also can be modifable. Prims shoes I wish were all modifiable ro at least come in different sizes. Preferrably a size that didn't require me to have itty bitty carnie feet.

I took a stab at clothes and made them no mod, no copy -- I think. This is the default settings for them and I went with it. Wasn't entirely sure of the texture hack thing, but didn't want to chance it. If there really is no more threat of a hack, then I'll change em. But I'm not a major clothes seller, so the occasional request for mod stuff is easy to keep up with.

No copy= understanable
No Edit = slightly self indulgent
No transfere= makes no sence. <------just because its there doesnt mean u have to use it. LL make it available people use use it.
but hell like I said I would be happy with a transfere once option, then I dont need to bug busy enough allready designers about getting present versions.

There are valid reasons for designers opting for mod/copy/transfer. As for the gift-issue, it should be a non-issue with the shopping websites available. I've logged into SL and opened up my browser to SLBoutique and bought non-transferrable items as gifts. The people get them almost instantenously. Why not work with these work-arounds provided? It's ultimately the big bad designer's loss if they don't provide their items for sale online.

I have always sold my clothing (male and female) no mod, no copy but transfer with only a few exceptions (like pants for men, some like it baggy some don't).
The reason i make them no mod are:
-the texture hack a while ago
-my textures are colored fabrics, making them mod to recolor will only lower the quality of the looks.
-in the past i got several times fed up by seeing one of my 'creations' back completly screwed up, yes, some of you really like to wear a belt instead of skirt.

It's my right as a designer to 'lock' the things I (yes me, and noone else) created and put time and effort in. I'm proud of the things i make and i wanna stay proud, it has my name on it so it has to look good at all times. Some people will only mod to their avatar sizing, some will just ruin it.

I stand for good customer service, so i help my customers till they are satisfied, this includes sizing their clothing or help them decide. I made a good reputation because of that.
So forgive me ;) , i am a egocentric designer, i want my stuff to look as it popped up in my head.

Then that designer said "this is my design and I dont want it changed, so its no mod." HAH! Is this what no mod clothing is about? EGO? I can alter my designer clothing in real life to accommodate my petite figure so why not in SL? If the top designers in RL allow me to alter their designs then why are the SL designers too narcissistic to allow me to adjust their clothing to my shape?

I am at a point where if the clothing is no mod..I wont buy it no matter how much I like it.
What do you think?

Katy,
Not sure if you are a designer or have ever designed before... but often times when clothing is made from scratch the clothing will not appear correctly if the sleeves are made longer, pants made shorter.. skirt shorter or longer etc... I dont think it's an ego thing but it does save us alot of trouble, I often hear people say, I shortened my pants now I cant make them look right (how they are intended) Often times people use the flare and length settings to make the style they are going for, and when customers cant get that look back, then what? they are pissed off then go back to the designer, and the designer has to fix it for them...
Often times designers use the color swatches to get the exact tint they are going for, then a customers changes it and it looks awful and cant get it back to how it is supposed to be....
I get these problems all the time as we make animated balls and furniture modifyable, people IM me, I took the contents out, it dont work anymore, I unlinked it and moved pieces, now I cant get it back to look right... Its a nightmare! I cant imagine having to deal with the clothing on top of that..

Also, why on earth would a designer want to see thier lovely outfits and creations ripped into shreds by alterations... if you dont like how it is, theyn why buy it? Just dont make sense.

I came to the conclusion about selling my Avatars that it is a benefit for people to be able to transfer to give as gifts to a partner or friend. As far as re-selling for a cheaper price..what's the issue? You already made your money off the front end. Just keep no copy. If they don't want the item any longer..so what? Modify can be a different issue though depending on the item.

And all this time I thought "No Mod" meant it wasn't hip enough for me to wear. :(

As a consumer, I prefer no-trans. Then I can stick copies in whatever folder I want. And I seldom modify things I buy. If it is a certain design, you can't make the skirt longer anyway (for example). There isn't any texture there to make it longer.

And to people complaining in real life you can alter clothing...then give it away. Yep, but you sure as heck can't copy it and then give a copy away after altering it. And for more money. I have seen some designers offer a no-mod, no-copy, trans along side a no-trans item. So you can pick the one you want. However, then the person you give it to can't mod or copy the item. I just don't think the tools are there to make items permissions how designers want them. It isn't that they are greedy or have ego issues. They are doing what they can with the tools they have just like everyone else in SL.

"YOu want modify?" "I do tailoring! Great! Here are my fees for my items for tailoring lol.

Wow, you can really steal the textures? Ah well, I am too lazy to bother :P

I think the designers charging for tailoring/modding clothing is a good idea actually. Chip does this sort of with some of his skins. Minimal charge for adding tattoos over a certain number. I mean, it would be so much better if he just emailed me the file with the skin so I could do it myself. Must be his ego ;)
