The question has to be asked.

My short answer - yes, there are good women in SL, women who are honest and know what they want and what's important and are short on drama.

Not only did a few escape the scourge, but also a few snuck in after your arrival. ;)By 'good,' I assume you mean kind, thoughtful, intelligent, trustworthy.

I tend to think that if I can't be good, I can be good at it.

Does that count? LOL

Yes, but I have her locked away safe and sound and out of reach from the guys referred to in the other thread. :D

That's one. Which others do you know? You surely aren't referring to the rise (*snicker*) in Jello stock, are you.

Oh, definitely we're out there. I have a tight circle of girlfriends who all know what we want and have a short attention spam when it comes to drama. But it seems to us that the deficiency isn't on our side, it's in knowing any guys who 'get us'.

In that respect it's very similar to offline. Men and women do have fundamental differences in emotional makeup. If anything, I think in SL it's far too easy to take a relationship to the sexual level too quickly and skip over the important stuff -- and that has altered how some of the guys in SL approach a new online relationship.

My own empirical answer to Merwan's question is with another question: Why is it whenever there's a pool party at my house we end up with half a dozen girls on maybe one guy, if that? Is it because we don't host Tringo?

I've found after being in SL that some people are "feminine" and some people are "masculine".

My friends all tell me that I tend to I'm a chauvinist because I expect certain things from males and females. What they don't realise is that I expect certain things from "masculine" and "feminine" people.

I think taking a submissive person and expecting dominate actions can be rude to the person, unless they specifically ask for it. Similarly, expecting a dominant person to act submissively is disrespectful.

And no, I'm not talking about sex. :)

I'm only saying this, btw, that I think all this "good women" and "good men" is kinda misguided .. especially in SL!

Just a question, blaze: how on earth can you tell the difference?

I am a woman in rl, but I do not fit the 'stereotypical' female gender role: I can use a Skil Saw, I like baseball (well, live games--not televised), I place great store in my professional life, I hate shopping. Do these qualities make me any less womanly or female?

Interestingly, in SL, female AVies are often hyper-feminine. They, often but not always, reflect an extreme version of what western culture aesthetically asks/demands of women. Could it be that you experience a "jarring" when your expectations (ie "She is a seeexxxy Avie.";) do not match your experiences ("Wow, she is really forward and outspoken";)?
I would not label such mismatching of expectations as "chauvinist" per se; rather I would claim such thwarting of expectation and the frustration that results is "human."

Are there good women in SL? No doubt. Are they what you might expect? It is unlikely.

There are no women in SL. Just men with female AVs.

He's absolutely right. I've lost count as to how many times I've seen Schwans hitting on a woman in SL, only to have her immediately back off, saying "no no, it's ok, I'm really a man."
