Crapzilla Parody Site...

Here is a site , a parody site.

How do you feel about the use of your name in this not very nice parody of Cris's excellent site? I can't say as I'm too pleased myself.

Also.. aren't those shots copyrighted? and the song playing?

Maybe the site creator ought to read the recent threads on copyright and permissions.

That's why parody is protected free-speech, to prevent the use of copyright/tademark to punish the parody artist by the person being parodied.

If the site was fully-functional and competeting to take away business from SnapZilla, then it'd be wrong. Otherwise, it's a simple parody and should be protected. Not saying it's a nice thing to do, but we can't go around punishing people for making parodies or speaking their mind.

I think it's funny. If I was Cristiano, I would take it in a flattering way.

I guess you could argue they're not 'real' names. But they mean something to a large community of people and have reputations attached to them.

Do you have any say in whether they can use it or not?

It's obvious the creator just saved the Snapzilla source, with the full list of avie names etc intact. Is that 'fair use' of the code? Is it 'fair use' of people's names?

ah, I didn't realise the source code had been ripped. Not sure how I feel about that.

It is certainly more high brow than Catherine's previous racist parody of Eboni Khan, though still pretty tasteless as usual, but then what do you expect? However, where she is running afoul of copyright that is not protected by parody is not from the use of the HTML from my site (which she copied verbatim and then modified). That is most likely protected as a parody, though it would be fun to take it to court to see.

However, the copyrighted images she is using in the parody are not themselves being parodied - thus, they are not protected. Also, on her home page, the song When You're Good to Mama by Queen Latifah (I imagine a reference to her ill fated Chicago project) is playing. I highly doubt she has a license from Sony music to play the song.

Finally, keeping the list of names that she took as part of copying the HTML in the parody is offensive - if she wants to take a shot at me fine, but leave the users of the site out of it.

Anyway, her ISP has been notified of it.

Yes, if the images were from Snapzilla, I can see how they'd be protected by copyright for the purpose, but these are unconnected copyright images from other sites that have been used to create the parody. I doubt thats covered or it'd be a fantastic loophole to using people's stuff

A joke which you're forcing a whole list of people to 'be in on' with you in print. I think that's the issue.

I'm not on there but if I were, you'd be hearing from me. I think Cris has done a fantastic job of Snapzilla and I'd be more than a little pissed if my name were associated with such a crass attempt at disrespecting it.

Look Cris that redneck parody I did of Eboni was also a joke it had no racist intention what so ever. If you took it that way them I am sorry the joke was not obvious enough for you. As for the threats against my web, go for it, you have had it in for me from day one everyone knows this. You keep saying that the music I use is in violation too but its a fan site. The music has not been removed. I'm sorry if you don't get that it's a parody as stated at the bottom of that page. Honestly your never going to let anything go and I realize that now. It's why I am poking fun. Lighten up man, your threats do not bother me one bit, because I know what I am doing is all in fun. Continue to come at me however and you may find your self banned. That's not a threat it's an obvious observation. We cannot have a discussion because you continue to throw personal insults into the mix. Stay on track and disuss the issues with me we might someday get some of these issues resolved. As far as continuing to come at you, I will remind you that you are the one who came at me in the Adults in the Teen Grid thread, not the other way around.
