Do Away with Telehubs?

Telehubs have yet to show their worth after over a year of being implemented.

They are, in the current world, an annoyance.

Being built on the ground, they are invariably dwarfed by money-hungry commercial exploiters' shops and megamalls, trying to suck people into their buildings, in lieu of an acceptable form of pop-up spam advertisement.

They aren't a social hub. They're a mess of people trying to get out of each other's way before a fight breaks out. It's like the bad parts of a crowded subway system; everyone doesn't want any trouble, they just want to get off at the next stop without bumping into anyone.

As a land-value nexus, it hasn't molded the explosive commercial growth in any direction. Shops are just as common 700 meters from a telehub as they are 13 meters away.

What's needed is more of a built-in purpose for telehubs, or their complete removal from the system.

Here's an idea that just popped into my head: What if commercial selling was only allowed a certain distance from a telehub? Say, 300 meters? (Simply disable the ability to sell something unless it's within a distance of a telehub)

It would localize shopping centers quite easily, allowing for a better shopping experience. It would quiet down areas of the world, letting us get back to more quieter regions of the world. Dwell would be more focused; everyone would flock to around these telehubs, because that's where all the "stuff" is. Clubs would (hoepfully) flock towards these new traffic centers, trying to suck in more zombies -- I mean, patrons -- for their dwell games.

There is one workaround, of course, and that's just using vendors... but, why would you shove your store 600 meters away from the telehub when all the shoppers are AT the telehub? Unless you've got a thing for not selling...

But, as it is now, the telehubs are useless, and, dare I say it, annoying in today's SL.

I like the fact that telehubs aggregate laggy commercial builds. I picked my new plot of land with the explicit goal of getting the hell away from those, and have thus far succeeded. I "live" at the edge of the world, in a mostly empty snow sim, as far away from a telehub as you'll ever get. Now if only LL would make telehubs a little sparser...
