She did not say she was a dumb ass, she said she was anti-intellectual. I see what you are saying. As to the definition above of "soccer moms," having to do with anti-Catcher in the Rye and all, I submit that is one person's opinion. That is an attempt to define this demographic, and moreover, to define it in opposition to the original meaning of the term "soccer mom." In any case, I fit the demographic in many ways, and I don't mind being called a soccer mom. As to this business of correcting people's grammar and spelling and so on (not to mention chortling over it), doing so is the last refuge of very small people. What counts are the thoughts, not the way they are spelled or whether they are presented with perfect grammar. That's why I never correct people's spelling and grammar. (Except that one time when I stopped too low last week.) Besides, though unlikely, someone here could correct MINE sometime!!! That's why it's considered pretty weak to do so in most forums. Plus it's really snobby and arrogant. Not everyone is a professional writer. That doesn't mean they can't think, and in fact, often think a heck of a lot more logically than people who pride themselves on their spelling and punctuation. Treating them with condesension and insults makes you a far lesser person than the one whose spelling/grammar is inferior to yours. There are doubtless many other skills in which they are superior to you. coco _____________________

You always act like new people are some phenomenom you have discovered. Like there is some wave of "special new players" coming. It has been the same way all along, all the way back to beta. We get waves of casual users, waves of users from particular games, waves of creative users, waves of people from media advertising, etc. There is nothing unique that is suddenly going to transform things to your liking, because people are just people - they don't fit into the groups and mobs you try to make them fit into, they are simply individuals. Yes, and people keep running them off from THESE forums. coco _____________________

Cocoanut,
I rarely correct someone's spelling. However, I will happily be a snob and point out the ridiculousness of calling someone a dumbass while not even knowing how to use a contraction. Little moments like that don't come along in life all too often, so when they do, voila. How is you calling someone small, or the many variations you have been using lately, like "cool kids they so desperately wish to be" any different or less insulting? _____________________

In retrospect, this thread has taught me a few things; next time I create an asinine thread, I'm going to deflect all criticism by launching into a full blown argument about semantics and feminism. I cannot wait. Thank you Ulrika and Kendra for this extremely beneficial lesson in bullshitery. You both have the politician thing down pat. Thank you Ingrid, once again you have hit the nail on the head. It's threads like this that got our old friend Prokofy perma-banned from these forums. Now this thread starter goes down that road (albiet the opposite side of it) by resorting to hyperbole and finger wagging. Thread after thread of childish retailation for having the rules applied to her by attempting to make Jeska look bad for doing her job. Anyone disagreeing with her gets marginalized in a blanket attack about their intellectual level or ability to rationalize. There will never be government in SL, no less ran by these defrocked homecoming queens. _____________________

Could you supply us with the etymology of the 'original meaning' of the term 'soccer mom'? Thanks. Earlier, I said I believed it came into being during an election. It was apparently to describe the power of the vote of this surburban demographic, which came out in numbers for Clinton. coco _____________________

Cocoanut, I rarely correct someone's spelling. Yes, Cristiano, I said I understood finally your point about the reading of the meaning of what she had said. I understand the logical distinction, and partly agree with it. As for the difference you ask about, again it comes down to I don't start OFF saying things. Others do. When I see people putting down others for their spelling or grammar, I REACT by pointing out that is bad form, snobby, and arrogant. In the other example you mention, when I see someone responding to a person's opinion and desire to discuss it (in that case, also a new person) with a post that is an incredibly snide and arrogant put-down (followed by others more or less agreeing), I will make a remark about the cool kids. My other option would be staying silent. But I don't throw the first punch. coco P.S. They may not know how to use a contraction, Cristiano. But that doesn't detract from their right to post their opinions and have them treated with respect. You may not know how to change a spark plug (I certainly don't), but that doesn't give the mechanic the right to belittle you for it, or deny you your right to drive. _____________________
