WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. Well the thing is, if you go by the "follow your orders or you should be shot" mentality, you are essentially just a number. Expendable to your country and probably very loyal. So were nazi soldiers... and soldiers of many other horrible regimes. Many of them were involved in war crimes and yet all of them were just following orders. To the 'T' without question.

Was there an army that ever existed and followed a leader because they believed in him and not just because they were told to obey him or go to jail or worse... killed for treason?

Perhaps that is why I asked myself those questions and decided not to enlist in the military.

I just can't fathom submitting my fate to the orders of someone else without question.

I question everything.

Maybe my decision would've been different if I was told I was free to stay or leave at my choosing -- it might give me the ability to assess my confidence in the choices my leader makes. If they're good ones, why would I leave?

I guess in these days of modern warfare, morale is a tactical variable leaders would rather do without. In the end, machines would do them well so they can stomp their boot where they please without question.

.. and it would've been interesting to see if the case ever discussed wether the war was illegal or not. Since by all accounts it was illegal by international treaty, wasn't it?

people actually believe that?

Last I checked we had a minority liberal government and everyone is pretty happy with it since it means that not a single party is entirely in control (which IMHO is what democracy is all about).
