From: Shadow Weaver This data is purely speculative as all I have to do is hit Alt+m while in mouse look and I have screwed it up for everybody..hehe. Unless I'm mistaken, that's client-side and really only changes the sun for you, not the others around you. As far as estate sims go, I know they can do all kinds of crazy things, and all bets are off. -Ghoti

From: Ingrid Ingersoll nice. Okay after that little jab at people for absolutely no reason... I take alot of snapshots and I noticed the SL sky changes alot from one day to the next. Some days theres more haze it seems, sometimes the sky is bluer than others... It's all pretty neat. edit: I've attached a picture of the backyard of my place in Boardman.. the sky is the bluest I've ever seen out of the hundreds of pictures I have. As soon as they fix llCloud(), ill get some cool data . And maybe ill script ya up a sailboat that is "slighty" affected by the sl wind .

From: Cid Jacobs *is only slightly less fearful now* Actually Cid I know your asking for IICloud() options but Imagine this being able to set up multiple Suns or multiple Moons for that matter or even better satalites such as small planetoids.... Now those would be great as then it would have a significant effect on wind. But unfortunately with no ebb and flow of the tide in SL that kinda kills it all the way around. Maybe some day when A sim has Dual processors and a 20gig onboard memory then we can have that function properly in SL. Shadow

Shadow Stop picking thru my dreams . I am for ANY new weather functions they want to give us ( or fixing llCloud() for that matter). And it would be really cool if we were able to generate more data about the effects of the sun and moon on the planet... but then we would need those super cool functions that u as phils alt will not give me . The biggest thing i would like though would be some way to manipulate the weather in sl though. My fav suggestion was llMakeCurrect(), to create wind blowin at a force in a certain vector. Just think of all the cool things we could make then ^_^. Making your objects scripted to be effected by the wind would be a way to allow sls engine and other players to interact with your scripts then . And who doesnt want that?

Shadow Im seein someone making a big black disk that pushes all particles near it into a big swirling vortex and makin the first particle blackhole in sl . And of course we could make one for avies too. Now if we could just alter the gravity at will to crush those pesky greifers..... .

-Ghoti Ghoti from that can you plot the eliptical orbit of SL around the sun but according to the data it would be more square would it not? Shadow

From: someone Your just too cool for school . Thanx for the awesome pic too . Thanks and you're welcome. From: someone Ghoti from that can you plot the eliptical orbit of SL around the sun but according to the data it would be more square would it not? From: someone and about the graph i think its spot on, i *think* so dont hold me to it . I dunno. All I did was massage the data a little bit to clean up the layout for easier plotting. I dunno about SL moving around the sun, I think its rather the other way around. From: someone I've never seen Ezhar's data, but mine suggests there are no seasons in SL. At high noon the sun is approximately 62.5 degrees from the horizon. I dunno based on these numbers. The Z does not seem to vary, so maybe. My freind Leena and I had a sundial that rezzes a tick every 3 minutes as it tracks the sun. Those ticks seem to change postion from day to day, suggesting there may be seasons. We have never let it run for more than one SL day (the ticks derez just before their replacement rezzes) but it would be interesting to set this up someplace without a prim shortage, minus the tick derez script and let it run for a full SL 'year' (I hear its 10 days?) and see what the resulting shape is. Anyone with a spare 5000 prims willing to host the experiment? -Ghoti

I was reading on the wiki about llGetSunDirection() for kicks, since i have never actually looked up the function there before. Well I saw something near the bottom.... "Linden Lab has said that the sun and moon are actually moving independently, but that an eclipse won't happen for 500+ RL years." Well this found me off guard, I had thought they moved with the sun directly opposite at all times. If this is true, then i have to ask: Why do we not have llGetMoonDirection()? Anyone wanna chime in with an answer here? Phillip if your reading wanna give me all the formula used for movement too?

oh and just for some selfless plug.... There is a group now to discuss sl weather, share data, and make spiffy weather scripted objects. Its open enrollment for anyone to join . " The SL Weather Service (SLWS) provides weather, areologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for Second Life, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the SL economy. SLWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure which can be used by other SL agencies, the private sector, the public, and the grid community. " Once i see a certain amount of ppl r involved pehaps we could set up some larger scale experiments .
