Before anyone else does let me throw in the obligatory Troll post:
If you are not a member of FIC or the Mafia, is it still worth bidding for?

Bah. Hush, foo. This is the first time (that I'm aware of) they've actually considered the idea of employing residents to do their building. It is a huge step forward and one that could result in things that would make learning and doing in the metaverse easier for new players as well as enjoyable and interesting for older ones. I'm hopeful they will eventually open an in-world employment agency for things like this... and perhaps tailor some projects for new players who can use the security of a Linden project to gain confidence in experimentation and building. Honestly, to see this happen is, to me, a beautiful thing. If I were well enough along to try it, I would submit abid. Someday... someday.

I think it is a great idea. This is a step in the right direction for LL. Whoever wins the bid better be a fast builder: From: someone We'll review all submitted bids and make our decision on July 13. The Resident who wins this bid will then have until July 15 to complete the final construction.

Whoever wins the bid better be a fast builder: Hah, no kidding. That's not much time at all. Also, wasn't the new WA constructed by a resident? They were using an alt, it seemed, probably to defuse any complaints of Linden favoritism. edit: Also, Schwan, please bring back pitchfork guy (your forum avatar)

Interesting, but I'd need more than two days build time for it to not completely be grid-snap-prefaboring and textured, etc..
I've done structures on short notice, but this sounds like it needs more preplan/execution time to not suck.

Nice plan, but for a high quality buiild you are looking at a week from concept to texturing, but that again depends on the quality and design of the build. Need more time path

Woot!
I have to apply for this one! A unique build in two days? I'm all over this one.
4000 meters equals about 1000 prims, so about 300-500 prims for the build...
I can do this in two days.
Anyway, may the best builder for the job win!
On a side note, 2 days does seem a bit short... Perhaps it's a stress test of some kind?

I'm sorry about the short time period on this. We simply need this inworld Recruiting Center set up as quickly as possible. Like...yesterday. We could have waited a couple weeks for bids...then given people a couple weeks to build the final location. But it's simply more important for us to have *something* set up very soon.

From: Jauani Wu do you have any programmatic requirements? If you mean scripting, no, nothing at the moment. We're really just looking to get a physical space set up so we can immediately start using it for meetings and distributing notecards from kiosks. But if you have any creative scripting ideas, please let me know! Another area that might be fun (aside from the building aspect) is "recruiting posters." If anyone has mad skills with Photoshop and wants to send me some creative poster designs, please let me know as well.

This is something we're going to have distributed as a notecard in the Recruiting Center. I thought you might like to read it ahead of time. It was written by a current Linden Lab employee (who shall remain nameless for privacy reasons): Why work at Linden Lab? Full-time and intern positions available in Development, Ops, QA, and Art http://lindenlab.com/employment- The product is cool: Second Life is so cutting-edge it defies genre classification. It's a game, a tool, a playground, a nation, and nearly everything in it is built by its residents. A digital space where everyone can be what they want, create what they want, and do what they want, and it's growing fast. SL has a diverse, global set of users who are passionate about the world they're creating. - The work is cool: Second Life is at the forefront of many disciplines. We push the limits of 3D rendering, network streaming, distributed caching, clustered computing, physics simulation, virtual machines, animation, scalable databases, UI design, economics, online communities... the list goes on. The Second Life server grid has over 1,000 CPUs, and gets larger every month. - The people are cool: Linden Lab is filled with the best and brightest from a wide variety of backgrounds. Everyone is smart, everyone is very good at what they do, and everyone has a chance to contribute. The environment is intellectually rich, dynamic, and creative. - The company is cool: Our CEO, Philip Rosedale, strives to make sure Linden Lab is one of the best-run companies in the world. We have an open working environment, progressive management style, and solid business ethics. Plus, our office is in San Francisco near North Beach; not in some suburban corporate office park. How do you know this is true? We have 48 employees and have been in business since 1999. In that time, only four full-time employees have ever quit; two of those left to become full-time parents, one left for family reasons. The fourth came back after 6 months of frustration in academia.

Well, if you want it this quick. I better just build it already and use those 2 days to do whatever you think needs improvement. (cocky, me?) Btw, what do people think is the price LL is willing to pay?

Just curious about whether the fee should be specified in Lindens or $US. LOL
