He's finally crossed the point where he believes his fame and money means he actually knows what's best for us all...
Personally he can get as weird as he wants... just so long as he keeps it to himself.
I got no problems with anyones beleif systems, just so long as they don't try and ram it down my throat... and that goes for all of them..
It's not that he's nucking futs that bothers me, it's the whole evangelism thing....
Siggy.

His recent behavior at various public appearances, usually with katie Holmes, seems some how creepy/fakey and sort of desperately frantic. He may be headed towards a breakdown. But he does make a damn good poster boy for warnings about cults.

I enjoyed his work when he was young, but from Top Gun onward he seemed to play almost the same character in most of his roles, with a couple of exceptions. I agree very much with Siggy. I think he is one of those actors with a combination of a strong Midas touch and susceptibility to groups like Scientology, that it has tainted his psyche deeply. I watched that interview myself, and I must say, he creeped me out, and I don't creep out easily. Not only was he creepy, he was WAY out of line. I don't care who you are, and how large, important, and wise you think you are, you don't call out out another person like that, especially in public. He should be highly ashamed. Fiona, thanks for the info, I suspected he was quoting bogus info. Ironically, I figured you would have something to say about him after that interview.

I still think the guy is a good actor and I have no problem seeing his movies, but he's not doing his career any favors with his ranting lately. I'm looking forward to WOTW and I thought he was good in his last scifi Spielberg film Minority Report. It's just embarassing to hear him chastise someone so publicly for being uninformed while spouting misinformation at the same time!

But once his relationship with Katie goes sour and he wants yet another younger partner...He may check out the teen grid...

I also thought the Minortiy report was excellent - the concept was very good and he seemed to be believable in that role. I thought the movie Collateral where he plays a villain was interesting also As for the way he acts , he does seem strange. Not the first actor like that , though. As to where he gets his sex symbol image - everyone remember "Top Gun" ^^?

My favorite quote from the interview: "I have never worried ... about what other people think and what other people say." If that was true, then why pursue this lawsuit? I guess he only cares when it hits to close to home?

The problem is the medical system is truly fucked up.
Tom cruise might be missing the target, but he's certainly aiming for the right one.
You can easily reprogram your body and its mental makeup by simply eating right / differently. There is a lot of research that vitamins can have the same impact on the body as patented medical cures.
The problem is that vitamins can not be patented, so there is no money to market and provide a solid foundation for their use in treating medical / mental problems.
Tom Cruise is trying to provide a lot of free marketing to an industry that can only support itself if people educate themselves.
There are tonnes of examples of things like this in the world. For example, Index Funds versus Mutual funds. Any banker or financial planner wouldn't invest in these if his life depended on it. Everyone who has any education in 1st year statistics can easily do the analysis and realise that index funds do as well as mutual funds with very little expense ratio.
Basically, picking a mutual fund is like picking a number randomly between 1 and 10 and that's how many thousands of dollars you might make.
Picking an index fund means you will make 8000 dollars. Which are you going to pick? It's pretty obvious.
However, there is not a lot of profit in selling index funds, though this is turning around fortunately. No profit means no marketing which means no awareness.
However, Tom is also probably going to a lot of political capital over a problem which really isn't that important.
Yes, you can reprogram your body with cheap vitamins, but you don't really do that much better than you can with drugs. And vitamins, because they're not monitored by a doctor often, can be sometimes as dangerous as drugs.
The point being is that there are more important problems for Tom to be tackling, like aids in Africa or promoting womens rights throughout the world.
Unfortunately, he's been conned by the scientologists that this particular problem is of great import and he's unfortunately being played the fool.

I think Tom Cruise was always a little off-center. He had a good publicist to keep him in check though. But he's fired that publicist and hired his sister, maybe because he got tired of being stifled.
He was awesome in Top Gun. I thought he was sexy then. Then Interview with a Vampire came and I thought he was dead sexy. But after that, I look at him now and can't help but notice how short he is. He also freaks me out when he gets a laugh spasm during interviews. I can't trust a person who makes laughing look painful.

I think it's the Jerry Mcguire in him that's coming out.
I think he's realising what Jerry did and that's what you or I think isn't going to make him happy.

Heya Blaze No doubt at all that holistic medicine works, when practiced properly. I think we have a long way to go still on understanding the connection between mind and body, and that the American medical model doesn't always work. Also true that the medical system is broken, and access to care for a variety of problems, not just mental illness, is an issue. Vitamins can and do help with all kinds of things and some doctors prescribe vitamins along with prescription medication. I wish that some herbal remedies were regulated by the FDA for dosage and purity, because I know they work. I simply find it dangerous for him to be holding himself out as an expert and criticizing wholesale other people's need to seek treatment for illnesses. Mental illness still has this stigma that you shouldn't seek treatment, when people would for a heart condition or lots of other things that need care. I don't have a problem with whatever his personal beliefs are if he is only hurting himself with them on his own time. I think when stars have a platform that they need to use responsibly, and I think it's a shame he chooses to use his in this manner. LOL Nolan Nice link, Juro! And I want that shirt. Badly. On an off topic post to the off topic thread, I love hearing well informed dissenting opinion. Part of why I enjoy SL so much

I look at Tom Cruise nowadays....and i'm not annoyed by him. I'm worried for him. It's hard enough having everyone and their brother knowing you and wanting to be your friend. Most celebritites have to deal with that. But then have a bunch of people put you into semi-hypnotic trances to 'clear your engrams', and then have them whisper about how the evil overlord Xenu's gonna dominate the earth...but that you can learn the power of you own mind to defeat him...just give us $100,000 for the three-week course... I have a question. Scientology is defended as a religion. But what do we do when these 'religions' start harming their members? Is it really right to let Tom Cruise meltdown because he's had Dianetics whispered in his ears all this time? At what point does something stop being a 'religion' and start becoming a 'victimization'?

To clarify a wee bit: It's not that men or women are simply jealous about Tom, and therefore are spreading rumous about being gay...It's his own overt denial of it (including lawsuits) in the past, whenever a story gets published claiming he is homosexual. The man freaked the F out. Me personally, if someone calls me gay I say something like "Thanks....yup, I'm gay." I'm not, but it annoys people when you just agree with them..(or wait...maybe I am...OMG crisis of conscious!!! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!) *looks at the clothes he's wearing, and realises that a gay man would never look so shitty in public* Whew...crisis averted...though I'm still worried about my fascination with Carson from Queer Eye....

Well ..
ITs a trend Ive seen with some men tho ..
woman "wow (pick from the list) is hot" man "you know hes gay, right?"
the following actors Ive heard this before pertaining -
(the list) Keanu Reeves Tom Cruise Leo DiCaprio Johnny Depp Ben Affleck Matt Damon Johnny Depp Sting
So this is a jealous response.
In a similar manner - women accuse actresses/singers of being sluts
Man "wow (pick from the list) is so hot Woman "She is such a total skank/slut/tramp"
(the list) Pamela Anderson Angelina Joli Brittney Spears Christina Aguelera
I think this is becuase in straight america - it is derogatory for a man to be gay, but him being virile doesnt affect him. - thus hess dismessed as a homesexual.
A woman being promiscuous is deragotory - thus shes dismissed that way.
