I bought my partner a poker table as a prezzie a while back, and we've just recently gotten around to using it. We're having a few problems with it, so I decided to IM the creator. Well guess what ... he is no more.
His name isn't there, his casinos aren't there ... and while I really don't personally care why, I DO care that I dropped L$15k on this thing, and aside from having questions about running it, there's the little matter of his portion of the rake still going *somewhere* each hand. Where is it going? Dissolving in cyberspace somewhere? A piggy bank with "Property of LL" stamped on its belly? A numbered Swiss GOM account?
If nothing else, I"d like to find out if we can at least have the rake part changed somehow. Anyone have any info? Thanks, very much.
-Claire

I think really, not much can be done as the creator seems to have left Second Life so really all that can be done is for someone to take on the task of creating a new poker table.

I'm also trying to find the creator or whoever is responsible for maintaining that project now. My table appears to be out of date. Any word on how we can get the updated version and also acquire a second table?

I believe he's been permanently banned.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I have to admit, this creates a very very interesting problem for SecondLife.

Definitely an interesting problem. Esp. that part about where the rake goes. Here's some info that can help shed some light on why the creator is gone from the game. My, am I glad I sold my table long time ago!

Anybody knows his key? I could use it in my Linden$ Shredder, sounds like his account is a L$ black hole now.

Wow, this is a problem. I'm glad this thought-provoking thread came along (although sorry to hear about the predicament of Claire and other owners).
I'm starting to get a few scripting assignments here and there, so...what would I do to protect customers in the event I get hit by a bus?
I think a Dead Man Server could be the way to go. The trick would be to set it up so that it didn't fire too soon, in the event I do take a week or two off...but so that it did fire before the Lindens had a chance to reclaim my land and de-rez it.
Anyway, I think the idea would be to have a notecard with a list of closed-source customers and their particular properties, and then use that to transfer notecard sets with the open source to each owner, if I hadn't logged in within, I don't know, three weeks or whatever.
Also, if I had arranged to take a part of their revenue stream as payment, a notecard with a password they could chat or somesuch to permanently disable that feature.
That seems like the most responsible thing to do.
Anyway, it's early, and I don't mean to hijack. My condolences to the table owners. I've been bitten like this on a scale much, MUCH smaller than fifteen grand, and I didn't much like it.

I would suggest using a more generic users dead account, not someone accused of taking someone else's land from them.

We know they can do it, they are GODS Mar If people bought poker tables then they took a risk. LL should not step in and correct this issue. This is what happens when you purchase from another member. LL shouldn't step in and correct the seams on dresses and shirts, nor should they step in here. Regardless of the money. The tables disappear was do to a bug in the new patch. The creator being gone is not a bug, that is just life.

What happened to you with these tables is sad, but I agree with Eboni. Linden Lab won't step in to help when content is stolen through exploits and bugs, why would or should they step in here? You took a risk in buying such an expensive item for the potential income, unfortunately. The situation sucks, but if they step in here, they need to step in for all kinds of other situations.

Well if that's the case then 50K=200US$ and I won't be spending that on ANY object in the future in sl. Let this be a lesson to all then. Don't spend that kind of cash here on ANYTHING as you could and probably will be screwed out of your rl cash.
Thanks for the advice.

Theres also a sticky situation in that the scripts are still copyright of Mr. Fairplay, banned or not. It's not LL's place to screw with his stuff, even if he isn't in-world any longer.

Mar Don't be so hasty. There are plenty of content creators out there that are actually willing to stand by their product and provide various forms of guarantee that you'll get what you paid for. One bad situation doesn't mean every seller is horrible.

From: Martin Magpie Yes and it's still giving mr fairplay part of the take. So where is that money going? What difference does it make? When she bought the table, the agreement was th Creator got his cut. If he was still in world, would she still complain that he was receiving his cut? No, becuse that was the agreement. If it goes into oblivion or into Mr Fairplays pockets, it doesn't matter that is how the table was designed and that is how it was purchased.

There are plenty of content creators out there that are actually willing to stand by their product and provide various forms of guarantee that you'll get what you paid for. One bad situation doesn't mean every seller is horrible. There are many wonderful creators out there who support their products, I totally agree. But am I going to drop that kind of money on something now? Hell no. I simply won't take the chance. If LL wants folks to continue buying/selling anything with price tags this size, then I think they need to step up and give us some sort of protection. From: Eboni Khan What protection does Claire need from a product that is performing as it was intended at the time of purchase? I was told at the time of purchase I'd receive support and free upgrades. Well that isn't gonna happen now, is it?
