Ben,
Are the residents of the new world going to have $L ? And will that be transferred with their inventory?

That post makes me think that world will be ONLY for the 13-17 year olds. No visitations by us geezers. (I turn 34 tomorrow.) So this is the only chance for us to provide content for them. I hope they don't have L$ in their word, or things will get messy quick.

One Q, Ben... If we have a number of related objects (simple modifiable furniture examples, for example) should we send them individually, or box them up?

Whichever is easier for you. :-)

I notice in the thread you want weapons for 13-17 year olds? Is that correct?

Amanda,
He meant SL weapons. You know, like video games.....
And yes, on a kids 13th birthday in the US it's customary to give them a hand gun. We call it a Powmitsvah.

The objects themselves have to be copy/mod. Can the scripts stay copy/trans/nomod?

I'm not surprised by this Amanda. As *MANY* in that age range play first person shooter games and other online and offline games that have guns.

In the US, guns are PG but nudity is not, go figure. I'm still fighting that one from the inside as personally I believe they should both be PG! :D

Huns, the idea is to provide learning materials, so scripts should be fully modable so they can be read and tinkered with.

Ben, is there any way to get a nutshell list of what are going to be *major* differences in this new world? The reason I ask is because some Mentors, Instructors, and Live Help people have made some excellent tutorial Notecards that I think would be great for the younger world to learn from. The only problem is, there could be some things they don't have that we do, so the cards would have to be edited. Thanks for your help!

PS: I think this is a wonderful idea about the Hand Me Downs! :D

I'd still like to know if people over 18 will be allowed into the KidGrid?

And if L$ will be usedin the KidGrid?

Any answer yet?

Inquiring adults wanna know!

;)

I don't think we'll know until a town hall meeting. Or at least that's the vibe I'm getting. They aren't releasing much information on it in threads.

Scripted weapons? Great, so their first experiences in SL will be filled with violence...

Why don't we just send them our scripted penis attachments?

I can see the need for some creativity to be built in when they arrive...

But this all sound so damn hasty!!! Can't we sit back and talk about the different levels of involvement from LL that are going to have to occur when this grid pops up? We're talking three times the drama, three times the rule-breaking (I was a teen not five years ago; at that age, if we want to shoot a gun in a virtual world, no Linden nearby will stop us.)

And again, the issue of kids using their parents' credit cards to buy huge amounts of land--will mom and dad be given a refund if it wasn't meant to be?

I'd love to hear more about the logistics of this project before contributing. Though, I would really love to contribute.

Baby steps?

They should do the town hall this week then, and not next week. This is obviously a very important topic to a lot of people. Making everyone wait till next week for answers is just going to have everyone on edge and a lot of arguments are going to break out. :(

I agree with Pendari - the sooner we have a meeting the better.

I for one am wary of donating content without knowing anything - other than it's a teen grid - about this project.

If the lindens by thier own admission cannot handle the issue that arise in our sims how are they going to manage this new grid as well?

I feel kinda sorry for the poor liasons. Can you imagine the madness and suspensions that are gonna go on for the first few weeks? Johnny blasts litte Peggy across three sims and makes her cry. Naked Peter chasing a terrified Jenny across sims littered with giant, glowing neon cubes. Young, but very bright, Melissa opens the first teen club with 24 hour Britney Spears music and all pink textures and is invaded by 2BCruel and his posse of pimps and playahs.

Actually...sounds kinda fun....

I'll bet that the Lindens will have public land for L$1/m (or thereabouts) in this new grid, as they did on the main grid back before 1.2. I figure that this kiddie grid will be an exercise in getting the young'uns familiar with and hooked on the technology of SL, not for milking them for a bunch o'dollars (that would be charged on Mommy/Daddy's credit card).
