Then by the same token I guess I should also dig up every thread ever posted about me. That I ever found offensive and start posting the links and demanding apologies also.

I don't see this kind of treatment aimed at other residents who also posted simular things. I don't see old old links being posted over and over and over again, meant to piss them off. I don't see the same old issues being brought up to any other resident.

Why don't I?

This is getting realy old and fast.

You started the Threads with blatant personal attacks and named names! DUH! you could start posting links to old posts and demanding apologies, but it wouldn't make much sense because none of those players are acting as holier than thou forum reformers with a martyr complex.

it's not about the apology. it's about you being a hypocrite. your plea has no credibility. DUH!

Possibly because no one else has started threads to blame long lists of people for "ruining" Christmas, and so there's nothing to bring up?

edit: Or what Jauni said.

this topic is about a new fourm thread a "serious discussion forum" not these forum threads. Somewhere where we can leave the personal attacks and off topic posts behind. A topic with some substance. :)

Ok, I'm a tad confused. Is it not ok, after all, to post an observation about another poster? That is, as opposed to a judgement?

Observation:
Joe Bloh tends to avoid direct confrontation.
Judgement:
Joe Bloh is such a coward, he never confronts anyone.
Are these both considered attacks?

Depends on who you're talking about. Some people take offense at litterely anything and everything.

Have you ever asked yourself, "What might I, Catherine Cotton, be doing that so many of my threads turn into unproductive fist fights?" It doesn't appear that other people have this chronic problem. Sure, some threads flame up sometimes, but you seem to generate a significant number of flamey, locked threads. Please examine yourself and see what you might be doing that encourages this, and what others do to make threads that don't spin out of control.

i haven't made any personal attacks catherine. and my posts are completely on topic because you are advocating and moralizing a course of action which is completely contradictory to your way of being.

i have a more productive project for you and cocao, one that is less patronizing of the rest of forum posters. if you don't like these forums, go make your own and post a link in fansites like christiano does. if your forums are so much better, people will visit them and post there. if you want it to be on the SL forums, make a group, find 15 members, and create a group forum about civil thought policed discussions. if people like that they will join the group.

instead of being a dictatorial complainer, be a democratic doer! and most of all stop wasting the forum discussions on discussing the forum.

Because you and you alone are in the situation you're in. You make a few posts, then when anyone disagrees with you, you go ballistic in, (dare I say it?) a pretty crazy way. You then go on about how everyone and their brother is against you in a snarly viscious bridge burning kind of explosion and then announce once again that your account has been canceled and we'll never be able to torture you again and how you hope we're happy about it.

And we're all left looking at each other with WTF looks on our faces wondering because NO ONE is after you. Some of us do tell you we either don't agree with you, or even that we don't like what you're doing or saying, but beyond that Cathy, NO ONE is out to get you!

People are allowed to say "I disagree with what you said", we're even allowed to say "Hey, that's just nuts", and it's even allowable to say "Hell NO!".

But none of that means anyone plotting against you, what most of us do wish is that you'd just calm down and have some tea or something.

"Serious Discussion" forum Poll
Poll:

"Serious Discussion" forum. The only purpose of such a separate forum, would be to have adult discussion about SL. Any spam, trolling, or off topic posts would be removed. By the mods (or the person who presents the topic. unsure if that’s even an option LL would implement.)

Yes or No?

No.

I think you're giving me a little more credit than I deserve. I'm not aware of any humor in what I wrote, beyond my attempted levity using food items as discussion pieces.

Perhaps I did misread you, as I learned after I posted my original response to you that "Martin" and "Janet" are the alts of two people who have played opposed roles in this thread. A strange coincidence, but if you say it's just a coincidence, I believe you!

From: Enabran Templar
My point was that not everyone is good at doing that and they get disappointed and even pissed off when the assumed wave of agreement doesn't wash over them the way it often does for the "Martins."

I understand. My question is: why do "waves of agreement" wash over one and not the other - when Janet's argument often has similar merits as Martin's, even if they disagree. Truthfully, I'm not sure it has as much to do with the quality of both arguments as much as with social connections, personal likes and dislikes, perhaps even the use of language. (Your Martin is clever and communicative, perhaps, while Janet writes like a cludge.) These are not bad reasons to prefer one person over the other, but they are not "reasonable" and "logical" reasons, either.

Did I go crazy in this thread? nope. As a matter of fact I have to say again I agree with the poll results for the reasons previously stated

Did I insult anyone? nope.

Have a nice day ok :)

How is posting a picture of someone winning at Bingo off-topic? I was expressing that I felt Seth hit the nail on the head, using post-modern iconography.

Maybe I should have posted this?

For a non-pomo simpleton like myself, yes, Pandastrong, that image works. Thank you. ;)

:mad:Now wait a second here.

I asked becasue I often miss things. I'm an Aspie - social interaction is something that I do not do well. When you posted back there that you were angry, I had no idea why. I did not understand what it was about the preceding posts that was offensive to anyone. Yes, there have been personal attacks since that even I call obvious, but that's not material. Enabran's explaination made some sense to me. But if that's not the cause in your eyes, then I'd have loved to know what was - that's how I learn.

So if you want to just label me as "sad" and move on, fine. But that places you in exactly the same spot as those you rebuke.

Jillian, I wasn't labeling you as sad. I'm labeling a situation in which one individual is such the scapegoat and kicking-boy on these forums, personal attacks against her aren't even recognized as such. That it's apparently considered "normal" is what's dire, and sad.

My apologies to you for a remark that seemed too personal; I certainly didn't mean it that way.

I've already said I'm not going to cut and paste them. I'm not trying to leave anyone hanging so much as I'm trying not to draw attention to any individuals. Besides, anyone can read them.

What's an Aspie?

I've read them. Several times. I see nothing at all that I would construe as an attack of any sort - until it all spiraled out of control well after you posted about being angry. Then there were personall attacks all over.

That is why I state that I do not think pointing out that a statement seems to be hypocritical means that all serious discussion has been thrown out the window. To me it is just saying "this is how this is [specifically] coming across to me, can you clarify because I either disagree or don't understand what/why you are saying what you are saying."

(1) "Seth Kanahoe, you are a hypocrite and a wannabe thread-fascist! Triteness, racism, drama, and cruelty describe you!" (Links to seven threads follows.)

(2) "Seth, in your last post you say things that do not cohere with ideas you've expressed in other threads (links follow). Can you clear up the confusion?"

If this was Revolutionary France in 1789, the first statement would buy you a pistol duel at dawn. In 2005 it buys you a flame war, which is why there are so many equivalents of public pistol duels these days - cost of being rude is no longer a bullet.

The second statement makes the same point, and gives poor Seth the opportunity to respond without feeling too defensive. However, it's also boring and may not attract as much attention - and that's the problem.

I think it's all about balance: how to be sharp, witty and reasonable, and get attention for your POV, without crucifying people. And how to keep in mind that a sharp, witty, attention-getting disagreement with your point is not the end of the world for you.

Can we at least agree on those points, Pendari? .... You sniping, attention-mongering, whip-weilding, yellow ball-headed person? ;)

I read that - that is interesting.

You didn't see the first; it was there. The latter - it is much worse, and unfortunately way too predictable.

As this thread has turned into a haven of personal attacks, which continued after being warned, I'm closing it.
