I thought I'd quote this too as it will get deleted. I am the preserver of threads. From: Aliasi Stonebender Y'know that quote I have in my sig currently, Ulrika? Yeah. I wouldn't dream of restricting your right to say whatever you feel. But you have to accept the consequences of such, whatever that may be. One of those consequences is people strongly associate anything you say with Neualtenburg. Given your position as the sole voting member of the SC, not to mention major progenitor of the whole project, it's not a totally incorrect one, really. Act like an ass, people won't feel welcome here. I don't give a damn - while I find little use for an attitude such as yours, neither does it particularly discomfort me. Doesn't mean you can't say your piece, but it's just as easy to beat someone around the head with cold fact than it is to insult them and "oh, it's alright because I put a SMILEY THERE! ". So says me.

From: Lecktor Hannibal Actually no, I don't think so. Ulrika's recent rise in bile and your back smacking has turned my stomach. One can agree with someone without being accused of back-slapping. I'll make a deal with ya though , the very moment Ulrika says something I don't agree with I'll call her on it. Promise.

From: Kendra Bancroft I've been racking my brain to see if I could think of an inanimate object that I hold so dear that the mention of it being stolen or burned on an internet forum would cause me to play the victim card and scream persecution. I paused to think of a form of faith so weak, that the easily reprinted doctrines and dogma which outline that faith , that even a cursory threat of destruction would constitute an assault on my owm personal faith. I thought of the millions and millions of people who have died for crimes of heresy and non-belief in those written words. I've thought of the endless persecution by religious people against people of other religions and people of no religions. I thought of a religion so based in persecution that it's very symbol was a man nailed to a cross to die. I thought of this passage in the Torah (Bible), that I was taught in Hebrew School when I was a wee tot growing up in a very religious household. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath...Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them" (Exodus 20:4-5; also Deuteronomy 5:8-9)" And I wondered how the hell a person could get so worked up over a symbol being destroyed. I thought of Abraham. The common "father" of the earth's three (current) major religions, beginning all this by smashing idols and what his reaction might be to hysteria over the theft or destruction of a mass produced idol -- --then I laughed knowingly. This will be interesting to respond to, but I'm tired now, so I'll just say - I haven't been getting all worked up, screaming, or playing the victim card. I don't think anyone has done any of that, in fact. coco

From: Jsecure Hanks I should hate for you or your family to fall upon hard times Ulrika, because I would find it very hard in such a circumstance to make myself come to your aid. It's not nice what you do and what you say. Somewhere along the lines you've become something of a bully. I offer to take his place as long as I can remain anonymous and leave the money in shoeboxes that smell like almonds on Ulrika's doorstep.

From: someone My indignation is towards [someone's] lately constant [trolling] of these forums. Q: What is the best way to end forum vitriol spawned by trolls? A: My recommendation: save the indignation for something that matters. The "ignore" button is your friend.

From: Rose Karuna Jsecure - I wished you knew what it felt like to have people who believed in something that was so different from what you did shove it down your throat at every turn to such an extent that it made you hate it.
That is what has happened to so many of us unfortunately.
I know someone with a serious disease who could be saved with stem cell treatment, do you think they can get it here in the U.S.? NOT. Thanks to a group of people who have leglislated their beliefs. I wish you wouldn't put the problems of the world on my shoulders. As it stands I am a strong supporter of stem cell research. Although I agree with the UK's Professor Winston, who points out that stem cell research will not deliver the 'quick wins' for the medical field it has been marketed as being capable of. (EDIT: Clarification, Prof. Winston feels the stem cell field may produce good results, but over a longer time period than the media has drummed into the phsyche of the general public) I support stem cell research, and I didn't legislate anything. And I like my beliefs. And I'd like the Christian bashing to stop because it's bothering me. And don't try to tell me not to play like I'm a victim, cause when you bash my religeon, you make me a victim of your bigotry.

I always make the hotels remove the Bibles from my room. Sometimes I just toss them in the hallway. I have absolutely no obligation to respect a book that people quote to call me an "abomination". I won't respect it and you can't make me. From: someone And don't try to tell me not to play like I'm a victim, cause when you bash my religeon, you make me a victim of your bigotry. I don't bash Christianity. I bash back. There is a huge difference. I am not your Christ. I am not obligated to turn the other cheek. (pssst...I think that's your job)

I'm an atheist. I regard the bible as a laughable work of hypocritical and badly written fiction. And yet, if I go to a hotel and there is one in the drawer, I feel no urge to burn it, throw it in the hallway or throw a hissy fit till the staff come remove it. I just... ignore it.
Am I just a bad atheist? Should I be displaying far less tolerence or something? If someone can point me to a 'good atheists' guide or something, perhaps I can do better next time.

Starting threads for the purpose of . . . bashing back . . . at something that hasn't even happened. If people started threads hollering at atheists, pr demanding they become believers, then I would call responses to THAT bashing back. Otherwise, it's just gratuitious, uncalled-for, in-your-face bigotry and intolerance. And inappropriate for this forum. coco

From: Selador Cellardoor Well, I am a socialist atheist, and I certainly don't like book burning. This is one of the best responses in any of these hyper-inflammatory threads of late. Anyone who supports the destruction of books, ANY books, deserves to have their eyes gouged out with a dull object. I suppose everyone has forgotten the tragic story of Hypatia and the destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria, which of course plunged the world into a period of intellectual darkness that arguably continues to this day.

Throwing bibles in people's faces is an act of gratuitous, uncalled for, in your face bigotry and intolerance... so is the hate speech and discrimination of gay people, atheists, and unchristian people du jour.
