From: Mulch Ennui Hey my taxes paid the bill for this war on terrorism?
Why is it that the realities of what the "defender of Freedom" did in our name shock you?
Isn't this what the war mongers wanted?
Send a missle from your couch and be insulated from the realities of destruction, not on my watch
(and this is not neccesarily directed at you Liona, it was directed at anyone who feels that this illegal immoral war is justified and we are spreading freedom and killing only terrorists).
Those photos are the reciept for our payment. Every action has a consequence. Hide your eyes from the consequences all you want, but that does not make the consequences any less real. I am not against the war on terror but i am against the war in Iraq. I just don't understand how many of you think we should of did nothing after 9/11. If we were just sitting back twiddling our thumbs i gaurentee we would of suffered dearly. Now that we are over there(in iraq) all we can do is support our troops who are our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons. Bush I believe lacks judgement and can be foolish. Hell I didnt vote for him but to already convict him and anyone else that voted for him is well ridiculous. Share your opinions but if you don't like USA then get the fuck out.

I don't think most people who dislike Bush would argue against doing "something" about terrorism, just not to the extremes or misdirected attempts that the current administration has pushed on us. The chance that you will be a victim of terrorism is probably somewhere near getting struck by lightning or being killed by bees, but you don't see us waging war on the sky or bugs. If the objective of terrorism is to motivate change through shock and awe, then obviously the terrorists are winning.

From: Liona Clio How did this thread get to posting pictures of dead babies??? Now, I appreciate Ulrika's answer to me...I've been curious for awhile at why Ul seems to give out a lot of one-liner hate posts. I'm kind of sad that the reason given is 'because I like stirring up trouble'. That's pretty much the Net's definition of a Troll, dear. But, Honestly people! Can we *please* tone it down a notch? The dead baby post was over the line, IMHO...and it was (once again IMHO) a violent recation to the GWB, Defender of Freedom remark. If you're going to respond to the trollbait...do it with a sense of humor and a sense of what most people consider taste. M'kay? Pictures of dead babies offend you? How about the fact that they're dead in OUR name. That offend you?

From: Kendra Bancroft Pictures of dead babies offend you? How about the fact that they're dead in OUR name. That offend you? Dear, both offend me. The fact that children are dying in Iraq offends me. Heck, the War offends me, as it does the majority of America. But what truly offends me right now is that there are people in this forum who think they need to shove disrespectful pictures of corpses in order to prove their point. And what I find *truly* laughable is that they feel this forum needs shock therapy to stop us from....get this.....*approving* of George Bush. Yeah, that's right....The SL Forums, this bastion of neo-conservative idealism, is Blinded by the Right. The only way to shock them out of their heretical views is to show them baby corpses. Okay, rant off. Apology accepted, Mulch.

What does that even mean? Your tax dollars paid to murder those children -- look at them. To deny the awesome meat-grinding power of the U.S. military would just be un-American. ~Ulrika~

Again, not directed directly at you Lione, but since you are the one most offended, I must defend my actions directly to you.

should I have blacked out (what was left of) their eyes?
Hmm, maybe we need a sticky to define what "Off Topic" is for, because Jeskas Post confuses me
EDIT: The irony of this thread just hit me. I'm getting old, my reactions are off.

The Off-Topic forum exists specifically to discuss things that are not related to SL. If that has changed as of today, how do the General and Off-Topic forums differ? ~Ulrika~

~Ulrika~ They differ in the degree of selective enforcement of authority.

I just want to say that I did *not* communicate to Jeska in any way about the pictures. I understand your outrage directed your posting, Mulch...as do Kendra and Ulrika, evidently. I just found the pictures tasteless. I guess I kinda saw them, and associated them with such things as "Faces of Death" and "the Silent Scream". I'm not really a fan of using the dead to shock people into an opinion...even if I happen to agree with that opinion. I also felt it stepped over the line of rationally discussing the topic (which I'm not really sure what that topic was). Evidently, I was not alone in that opinion.

Evidently, I was not alone in that opinion. well someone ran to Mommy, so I guess if you take the long way there, this was quite ON TOPIC and there is precedent why were are not shown pictures like this it makes for negative propoganda, a less explicit photo example will follow shortly EDIT: I do have access to grown ups who resemble hamburger more than humans. The children made my point with very little gore. Trust me, on the shock scale those pics were a 2 or 3 at most compared to the harsh reality of war that has been documented through visual media. That was very restrained. For instance, a photo series of a child with no arms or legs that is still alive with tubes sticking in and out of him and stains on the sheets from the puss seeping from his wounds seemed over the top, and it was far more disturbing than the 3 pics I posted. The children who I posted suffer no more, the one I didn't continues to suffer and will suffer for life. That is a horror I cannot pass on, even though some might have found it less offensive since he wasn't dead

From: Cristiano Midnight One of the ironies in all of this is Jsecure Hanks having the nerve to post in the Hotline about how offensive a thread is, after the countless insulting and offensive posts he has made about Americans. I was at least impressed with Jeska taking the time to illustrate where the little red report icon was, because he seemed to not know how to use it. I thought I should respond to this. As me, I have the unique privilege of shaping my policy towards Americans, from myself. I'd like to state, on behalf of me, that I have no issue with Americans. From the bottom of my heart, I think given the sheer size of America, it's impossible to have a problem with Americans, because America is such a huge land mass, with so many different peoples inside it, it's hard even to call them all 'Americans', because the people in that group are so diverse. I'm quite pleased that what you say is that I don't like Americans, cause it's my pleasure to clear that one up here and now Edit: Oh and that little red thingy, I didn't see it till just now. My bad.

From: Ulrika Zugzwang Don't like a thread? Lindens will now lock them, if you post a request to the hotline. /invalid_link.html~Ulrika~ I think about your post now Ulrika, and usually over time the effect of a post dies down inside my head. Over time the effect of your post has made me really quite sad, like I want to cry. Christianity is my religeon and it's my way of life. Sometimes I think I'm not vocal enough about it. I don't go door to door. I don't tell all my friends down the pub (although I'm supposed to spread the word, whoops) and I haven't been to church in some time. But it means something to me. When you said people should burn Bibles, we Christians are not attacking anyone. But that's scary. That's like burning down our houses, or killing our family. Really, the Bible is important to me. It's a valued text, and it has deep meaning for me. I don't mind if you don't want to read it, but please don't ask lots of people to burn them. It makes me sad that you'd do that. You've always seemed like such a logical person, setting up your little sims, with democratic voting and stuff. It makes me sad and worried that someone at first so commited to fairness like you, is suddenly wanting to burn things that are sacred to me. I don't understand. And I wish you wouldn't say such things.

the history of these photos is a story in itself for the record, I support our troops. I support them to be home with their families. I support them coming home vertical. I support the people who posted these photos against the wishes of those who wish to sanitize the images of war to protect their interests all photos from one of the most amazing sites ever, http://www.thememoryhole.org/

Now *that's* the way to show the horror of war without intruding on the memory of the dead.
I apologize if I've offended anyone with my stance in this thread.

Ulrika, you really do need to start exercising more discretion. You know people will do exactly what you tell them to despite their own judgement. I still haven't recovered from last week's "Hit Yourself In The Head With A Hammer" thread.

Yes, because we know it couldn't possibly have been closed for it's offensiveness toward Christians - it must have been because Jeska was worried people would run out to Motel 6, steal the Gideon's Bibles and burn them.

From: Ulrika Zugzwang This link might be of use to you. ~Ulrika~ I should hate for you or your family to fall upon hard times Ulrika, because I would find it very hard in such a circumstance to make myself come to your aid. It's not nice what you do and what you say. Somewhere along the lines you've become something of a bully.
