Love em, hate em, errr... be apathetic about em... but can't help but notice em lately.
Have one? Want one? Thoughts? Experiences? Monkeys?
Ok I admit I just like saying monkey.
Anyway I'm considering picking one up and I'm curious to hear experiences/opinions on em, good, bad, whatever.

I've had mine about 3 years now. Love it! Nothing like having every 80's song I loved, the entire collected works of Nirvana, 16 hours of George Carlin, a complete Mandarin Chinese audio course, and about upteen million other tracks all available at the press of a button. -Ghoti

I got a new video Ipod...so far...just can't get video onto it.....and I ready the directions. :/ The audio is great though and well worth it even the 30 GB one.

I'm a fan of the iPod mini, particularly for its metal body. I've had the 4gb green one for a while, and once I heard that the mini was being discontinued to make room for the nano I immediately ordered a 6gb mini (blue) from Amazon. Has worked flawlessly for me, and I like the iTunes store (alongside eMusic).

I used to have an older Rio, and the difference is incredible. The Rio was a commodity, the iPod is something I want to keep. And hold in my hand. And push the buttons. It feels like a solid chunk of metal, and the details are flawless. Even the base has a nice tactile feel.

Haven't tried pics but the video instructs read wrong or are not very clear. Anyone know of a good help site for these guys. On the flip side most of my previous toys have been drop and go. Drop the stuff in adn go. These seem to be a tad ahrder but alot more content rich.

Another iPod mini fan here - all I wanted was something to put music on so that I could tune people out at the airport (particularly screaming kids) and to use the second that I got on to an airplane (I have to travel a lot for work). I love it because it's somewhat difficult to see and the stewardesses never tell me to turn it off because they never notice I have it on. It is awesome for what I need, fits in my purse easily, around my neck easily, the charge lasts for ever, is easy to down load and to re-charge. Absolutely perfect for what I needed.

I'm with ya on this. Have IPod, IRiver, Creative Zen, Philips and Oregon Scientific. No love for the IPod, though it certainly looks neat - minor functional problems, though service was quick to replace, had same glitches with new one. Nothing but troube with 2 different Philips MP3 Run, they were never able to resolve recurring dowload problems. The IRiver is good and the Oregon Scientific, though small, is entirely submersible and I use for kayaking and swimming. Love the Creative Zen, no problems, multiple formats, tons of storage space.

So much gadgetry feels like fragile junk. The iPods feel so solid and well-built. I've loved all of mine. Vastly superior to all the digital audio players I owned previously. And the interface. So simple. Until those other clowns can deliver me a perfectly usable device with only four buttons, I'm not interested.

4 gb mini here and its pretty nice. Its pretty rugged (I've dropped it on the pavement a few times but it survived with only scuff marks). My complaints are minor: Listening with the earphones it comes with made it feel like I was listening to an old transistor radio ... replaced those suckers in the first weeek. Itunes is clunky to use (on a PC at least) You have to connect it to a computer to recharge the batteries... not good when you're traveling without one. Other than that it serves it function wonderfully (keeping me from total boredom while exercising and blocking out noises on airplane flights so I can sleep )

I'm not saying you're wrong, but honestly your post is pretty much the same as all the other "ipod sucks" posts I see all over the web, basically, just saying they suck without giving any detail or point by point comparison with anything else on the market. The apple store gives college students a discount, which would bring the 30gb 5th gen ipod to $270 including shipping. I've looked at tons of other options, but so far I'm having a hard time finding anything that seems like this kind of a deal as far as dollar for dollar value. At the same time though, I've never owned a DAP so I'm by no means an apple fan persay, and I would be glad to hear any SPECIFIC criticisms or reasons to get something else you can offer.

To be fair, since I'm asking you for specifics, I thought I'd give you an example of what I'm running into when comparing my options.
As far as iriver offerings, at (coincidentally enough), the exact price of an ipod 30gb 5g is the H10 20 GB. Heres a breakdown of what you get for that money, however
---------------------------IPOD------------IRIVER COST--------------------$270-------------$270 STORAGE----------------30GB------------20GB BATTERY LIFE-----------14hr (mp3)-----16hr (mp3) SCREEN SIZE-----------2.5"--------------1.8"
So the iriver has it beat in terms of a slightly better battery life (and it does have an fm tuner and voice recorder, which is admittedly nice), but the ipod has a bigger screen and 10 gigs more storage... it doesn't exactly seem to me like iriver offers a lot more for your money...
Also: see the reviews of the iriver, some additional pretty negative things about it...

I just sold my 40GB non-photo iPod with a bunch of accesories. With the proceeds, I bought a black nano and put the rest into my iPod fund to get the lates Photo. I haven't gone anywhere without my iPod for over a year. My favorite hobby is hijacking the radio broadcasts of restaurants and playing my own music while I'm there. Love that iTrip!

From: Kendra Bancroft They will have to pry my shiny black nano from my cold dead hands. From what I've been hearing about the nano though, if its still actually shiny then you are very very lucky... Thats actually one of my concerns with getting the 5g 30gb, it uses the same new coating as the nano, and so is just as hard to keep from getting scuffed and scratched to oblivion...

I'm a long time iPod user and I love 'em. My current one is a 60gb 4G iPod photo. It's about half full All of the iPods I've had have been completely reliable and were only replaced when I wanted to upgrade. I'm now jonesing for a video iPod, but I have absolutely no reason to own one.
