I own two iPods, a 2nd gen 10GB model (Wish I had the 1st gen for the neat moving wheel) and a 512mb Shuffle. I'm kinda sad to say I dont use the 2nd Gen much except for moving files around, The shuffle replaced it as Its so small I have it in my pocket every time I leave the house. I also keep some programs on it for work use, Two VNC Clients ( One for OS X, One for Win32) Putty and a app that shows passwords obscured by ***'s on windows machines. My 2nd Gen is old enough that its Firewire only so it's only used on my Macs, that doesnt bug me as my primary systems are Macs, I have a travel charger for it which works just fine, Someone mentioned earlier a lack of charging on the go for the iPod as a down side but unless your using a Shuffle there should be a adapter for your model for charging without a PC. Oh I carry one of these http://www.soundbug.biz/ with me in my bag so I can share my music with the world anywhere a suitable surface can be found, Lots of fun to stick it on peoples windows at work

From: Satchmo Prototype We need to get SL Machinima onto those bad boys... is there a video equivalent of a podcast specifically for the video iPod's? Not specifically _for_ iPod, but there are video podcasts.

Sorting out the options on this is beyond frustrating. I'm almost positive I will not be getting the 5th gen ipods, as they use the same new coating as the nanos, and, well, just see for yourself... http://www.nanoscratch.com/showall/

And also, the OTHER problem I have with the Ipod, is the amount of webpages with info about all the reaons they suck..
I was considering buying one, and like anything I buy that costs over £100, I looking into it, searched google for Ipods, and when you get past the retail sites, they are all complaining about it..
Search google for ipods suck, even in quotes, and you get 13,000 results..
I'm just not willing to buy something with that many complaints..

HA. Ok well I will say this much. To anyone considering the purchase of a nano or 5g ipod. Stop. Do not pass "checkout." Do not let apple collect $200+.
I just went to best buy. They have 2 nanos on display, which are secured down and cannot even be picked up and held. I wiped one of them with the inside of my soft cotton shirt. It created easily visible scratches all the way down the entire ipod. They didn't have a 5g w/video on display, so I asked if I could see one. The guy pulled out a white one they have for people to look at. Without embellishment, this thing looked like it had been used as an NHL hockey puck.
In contrast, the 4g photo they had looked great. Apple is point blank lying when they say the new ipods are made the same as the 4th gen ones.
