Billy, I don't know how to tell you this, but you are a conservative. I'm a moderate.
I don't hate Bush, I'm deeply afraid for our country in his hands. Being a Texan, I know his history back to the womb and I'm not impressed by his native intelligence nor his education for what should be the most rigorous job in the US. The Republican blue-haired ladies circuit in the South used to call George W the "Texas Souffle" because he was all puffed up and full of hot air. Pretty, but no substance. I would not have had nearly the objections to his brother Jeb, who although way too conservative for my taste, is at least intelligent, competent, and well educated.
You can argue all you like about whether or not Bush lied to the country and Congress about WMD in Iraq. I figure it will be like everything else... about 50 years from now, we'll know much more about what really happened.
My fears however have been justified. President Bush broke the law when he authorized domestic spying. If we are a country of law (stop snickering Ulrika), then no one is above the law... not me, not you, not the President.
You can argue that he "had" to break the law for national security. But there were provisions in the law to cover every contingency he has brought up as a defense so far.
Our founding fathers knew a lot about tyranny through an unchecked executive. They deliberately split government power into 3 parts to keep us from going down that same road. It is so ironic that we went to war against George III to gain the same individual liberties that the current administration wants to cripple in the name of freedom.
Lately I find myself reading a lot of Jefferson and Franklin.

The problem I see is each party thinks it's ok for their guy to be corrupt, as long as their agenda is advanced. Many Republicans see it as "ok" to trample the constitution if it fits their agenda. They point to previous presidental administrations to defend their own acts.
As we continue down this road each president will take more power to himself/herself because of precedence. If the People didn't stop prior instances of trampling the constitution, why would they care now?
Since Kennedy was murdered we have seen a steady decline in the ability of presidents to confine their power to what was granted in the constitution. Each party supports their guy regardless of his wrongdoing.
Soon there will be a Democrat president trampling away, the Democrats will be supporting this trampling because it will be furthering their agenda.
And the cycle continues until this country no longer resembles a free nation.

You do realize that Kenedy was one of the worst at this kind of stuff don't you?
