In accordance with the standard Second Life management process and our commitment to continuous improvement of our product, Linden Lab is announcing that effective March 23, 2006, Second Life will be retired from service. The forums herein will remain in service as we have found that residents find it more of an amusement than being inworld. As such, we are currently in the process of removing all assets in the asset server to start with a clean slate and make way for something excitingly new coming your way. 1.9.0(17) is the last Maintenance Release for the 1.9.x release. We have found that the current code is far too complex to fix and improve and so have decided to move on to development of a brand new version of Second Life.

We hope you have enjoyed your stay in Second Life and wish you all the best until the release of a much better product sometime next year.

Yeah, you're so going to be seeing corn. Should you ever get out, be sure to bring me a few ears.

Would that it be true though. The loss of content would suck, but with a year to work on it they could get SL 2 up and running pretty quick with their past experience and no worries about backward compatability.

Is their no room for humor without mention of "somone going to the cornfield"? I mean, the OP's last name... doesn't look like "Linden" to me.

Yea, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I mean, is it really.. bah. Just forget it. This (and the 20 second post delay) is the reason I don't post often anymore :-/

I don't see what the problem is with the post myself.

I enjoyed the post. Anyone could tell this post wasn't from a real Linden spokesperson, it doesn't contradict itself or equivocate.

"Discontinuation", not "discontinuance". That's not a word.
