A bunch of my friends and I used to sit around and play the "what would be the 1 thing you would do if you had god like powers" and my answer was always cut human fertility drastically back. Fewer people, more resources.. more space for other things on the planet. I'm not for having 99/100s of the population drop dead, more like a scaled decline. Who knows, if children were rare.. maybe they would be treated better. Unfortunately if this were done in a timescale that was anything other than extended, it would lead to the total breakdown of society, and starvation and disease on a wide scale. Imagine a world in which 90% of its inhabitants were over sixty. The decline would have to be a *very* slow one. In our country the birthrate has dropped to a very minor extent, and we are already experiencing economic problems due to the larger proportion of older people. _____________________

In our country the birthrate has dropped to a very minor extent, and we are already experiencing economic problems due to the larger proportion of older people. Good point. I was envisioning a decline over several hundred years... Hmm.... maybe, since I have god-like powers, I should just make 99 out of every 100 people go poof, of course not leaving their bodies behind untidyly, and erasing the memory of the survivors so they don't all go insane. While I'm at it, maybe the remaining people could have a lifespan of a couple of hundred years, since we seem to begin to gain wisdom about the same time our bodies start to fall apart. Nahh... if I had god-like powers I would probably decide to become immortal, incredibly hawt, with piles of money, and all the minions one girl could want. I might as well stick with what's manageable. ![]() _____________________

Goats?
12-28-2005 11:53
what a lame argument....hardly worth putting here...enjoy your mainly goat-based diet then...
Meanwhile, back in the Real World... Im mainly talking about cows, sheep and pigs here (that being the main "live stock" that ppl "grow" , i assumed ppl would have taken that for granted when considering my pennys worth...But pedancy aside, when did anyone here last eat a goat? |

Im mainly talking about cows, sheep and pigs here (that being the main "live stock" that ppl "grow" , i assumed ppl would have taken that for granted when considering my pennys worth...But pedancy aside, when did anyone here last eat a goat? In Belize. Stewed baby goat with beans, rice, hot peppers and plantians. Before that, Morocco - roasted. I also ate it in Dallas, TX at a Mexican restaurant. Cabrito is a common name for stewed baby goat, very tasty. Lots of Arab and African countries eat goat. They might be offended that you don't think they are part of the real world. Also goat products such as goat cheese is eaten by even more people, many Americans included. Feta is often made from goat milk, although it can be from sheep or less commonly cow's milk. On a side note, there is speculation that goats were the first domesticated animals. As for animals more familiar to the American. Having grown up in ranching country, I have some personal info on this one. Cows can live on land that won't support human food crops without extensive irrigation. Irrigation that damages the soil through depositing salts, and that depletes hard-to-replenish ground water. Pigs turn the damndest things into food. You asserted that veggies take up less land than animals. I responded politely and with examples of why not all land is suited for human veggies, but is suited for animals. You have not refuted my argument. Our anscestors survived by eating everything they could. Some cultures still do that. Aborigines in Australia, huge chunks of which is not good for farming, relish many insects in their diet. Termites taste just like carrots btw. We are designed to be omnivores. That said, eat or don't eat what you want. ![]() _____________________

Welcome to the People's Republic of China Welcome to the Tyranny of Surreal. At least part of China's reasoning was that their population was going to outgrow their food supplies and they wanted to avoid the famine cycles some other parts of the world go through. Their implementation was flawed because of their cultural biases. You have to look much further back in history for the foundation of those biases though. It was common in Imperial China to sell or expose girl children during famines. I wish there was an easy answer. _____________________

Elk isn't that uncommon. Most rural families have eaten venisen of one sort or another, Elk, Deer, Antelope, Reindeer. I have an uncle in nebraska that converted his cattle ranch into an elk ranch.
